Burton's BATMAN 3 and what you know about it and theories and such etc.

that not marlon waynes in that manip, thats ludacris

Burton's Batman 3 would probably mean no Schumacher take over of the series and no Batman Begins....however, I have no doubt a more realistic version of Batman would have occured around this point anyway, as it's the style at the moment (see Casino Royale, Jason Bourne, etc).

i dont think burton would of made more than 3 movies so either way, schmacher would of made batman 4, and idk if would of been just like B and R but either way, schumacher would of still killed batman either in batman 4 or 5 and we would still have batman begins

I imagine Burton still would not have placed Robin in the film.

Blend the Gotham of BR with the Gotham of B'89. William's returning as Dent and Robin Williams as Riddler would have been superb choices IMO.

But alas, it's only a dream. We were only able to see Burton take on 2 Batman films, but they were excellent while they lasted.

Wise statement, sir!

Can't argue with that. Both visions are excellent. Would have been interesting to see Burton's trilogy in comparison with the rumoured Nolan trilogy.

Knowing that Harvey Dent was going to be in 'Batman Returns' but was scrapped for Max Schrek, I wonder two things:

1. Why was the idea scrapped?
2. That would have been cool to see that version on screen.

Yeah thats true, I can't see how he would work unless he'd changed the character a hell of a lot for Shreck. I bet Burton was gonna make him a sort of shady, dodgy business guy to lead into his deformity...

lol, good manip Forever poster, but burtons batman 3 would not be ANYTHING like schumachers batman. at all. there wouldnt be all those colors and i even to an extent doubt that robin would really get in there. i dont think burton ever liked the idea of robin. and i think scarecrow was meant to be in burtons 3rd batman too.

scarecrow in batman III wouldve been awesome... burtons scarecrow... just imagine... any sketches of burtons scarecrow anyone made? manips?

I see the scarecrow in a burton film going along the lines of the feel of SLEEPY HOLLOW. The creepiness that was the feel of that film would be my essential Scarecrow. I would have also seen a Jack Skelington type look for the Scarecrow AND see a fear toxin shot of people freaking out like TAS with the worst fears coming out and visible to the infected alone. Those images were sorely missed in Begins. Burton would have had a field day with those images.

Um, I thought we confirmed that Riddler was Burton's choice of villian in B3, Scarecrow was gonna be in Batman Triumphant done by Schumacher, a film that was ultimately cancelled due to the less than spectacular reviews of B+R. Apparently the script exists deep inside a WB vault and only a handful of people have actually even read it.

Hey guys,

i'm new here and i really enjoy the knowledge and semi-kbowledge that is being exchanged on this forum.
i own the standard DVD version of BR, so i have a question for those who have the SE version.

in this thread over at BOF - http://p088.ezboard.com/fbatmanonfilm81780frm7.showMessageRange?topicID=799.topic&start=1&stop=20
i found an interesting comment by someone who said the following in regard to the audio commentary -

" The director clearly feels uncomfortable dissecting his own work, prefering to let it speak for itself though his most interesting musings concern what HE would have done with Batman Forever. "

so, what exactly were Burton's 'musings' about what he would have done with the third installment?
i would have wanted a third Burton film over anything else, like some here, so what did he say?
is there some info in there other than the already discussed aspects?

thanks.

Um, I don't think he says anything about the third film. He briefly mentions it at the end of the BR commentary I think.

^^Yep

EDIT : This is indeed an official statement on the DVD. Other stuff on the net (various sites, like http://geocities.com/burtonsbatman3/) just report rumors and eventual possibilities. Therefore, we will never know the thruth (if any, cause Burton got stopped fastly by whiny parents and WB, so he did not have the chance to get his attention on a new Batman, if he had further more to tell about the character) on Burton's Batman third installement

Thanks guys.
well, i guess i dont really need the SE edition then, as i would have only bought it for the audio commentary. i have seen most features about it already.
damn, i really had wished there was some kind of word straight from the horse's mouth.

Mr.E.Nygma, seeing we're nickname relatives of sorts, what do you refer to as an 'official statement on the DVD'?
i agree wholeheartedly on whiny parents and 'soccer moms' as someone called them. it's such a shame that we never got to see a 'serious' contnuation of the story.
psychological Batman is dead forever ... haha ... on film, im afraid, seeing as the Nolan films dont really care much for the concept of subtext (art student crap and such... ;))

Hmmm, I think that Nolan's films do have a psychological subtext, its just presented in a different fashion. Rather less obvious then Burton.

But still get the SE of it, it's worth it just for the digital clean up.

I guess it comes down to how closely you want to stick to definitions.
you could say that on a subtext level, BB is about fear, hope and drawing a line between vigilantism and deliquency. But then again you have all these things spelled out word-for-word in every second sentence of dialogue (slight exaggeartion ;) )...
so the subtext isn't exactly 'sub' anymore... rather just plain text.
but im not about bashing BB, it's a well-done blockbuster movie and very enjoyable at that. it just doesnt hold up when you start looking for more subtle qualities, that's all.

i think i'll get the SE then, thanks.

I don't think it's spelt out that much, but then that's me. I have a scriptwriting module in my uni degree, so I know how hard it is to tell the audience things...

Definitely get the SE though, of all the films. They add to the mythos. Yes, even B+R!

Conceptual art for my vision

i have had a scriptwriting course during my studies as well, and you're absolutely right, it's a tough job to convey information to the viewers, that's why - so we have been taught and it is also my personal opinion - one should use an intelligent, casual way of doing so and not spell it out literally (my teacher actually called this way of passing info as 'subcutaneous' which gives a good picture to remember i thought). that's my main gripe with BB, because it didn't even try.
i'm not sure if i would really want the B+R SE , but you convinced me of at least getting getting BR, maybe the first two.

The prof Van Helsing is yet another great Anthony Hopkins performance, I don't get tired of it, hence the nickname, hehe! lol@your play on words with forever. As for the statement, I called it official because Burton clearly talks about his improbable return for a third film in his BR commentary. When the end credits start rolling, he lets it in the vague but jokingly says that fans are grateful we never had his third Batman because they would have to listen to another of his DVD commentaries. He sai that he had a few talks but was stopped quickly. I haven't watched BR in a long time, I should now since it's my traditional Christmas movie, hehe! So if anyone has the precise quotation of him, you can add here to not make me look like a fool who doesn't care, haha!
