I'm going to buy stock in a Canadian or European company. Simply to stimulate someone elses' economy. Because if we are so stupid to approve a plan like this, our economy does not deserve to be stimulated.

See, that would be great if 'we the people' rose up and did something like that. Then when the government is looking at us with a  kind of face we just stare back like this  or this :o.

Are we even going to get the chance to approve of this or will it be yet another thing 'we the people' have had no say in?

Lewis Black is right as always, can never remember the whole quote though, so I don't use it, but ever since Bush introduced this and every time I've heard of it, that rant went through my head.

I know I definitely missed out on part of it. But I think I got most of it.

Isn't that how the economy has been helped before?

I know . . . how fkn weird . . . look at some of the 3rd world countries w/ no real economy, starving children, yadda, yadda, yadda . . . and OUR country gives us $600 to go on a goddam shopping spree

is there something wrong w/ this picture?

heh . . . buying a 1/2 pound of weed would be stimulating Mexico's economy . . . :O

While I like the idea of 1200 dollars between my wife and I...I don't like this plan.

1) 600-1200 dollars isn't going to do much good. What is it? A months rent? A few weeks of groceries. Its really not going to stimulate the economy THAT much.

2) $150,000,000,000...thats a lot of zeroes. While our country is in debt out of our asses....our government is giving away 150 BILLION dollars. Its maddness. Yay, lets screw the future generations so Americans can have a few extra bucks.

Totally agree, Matt.

jag

^seriously . . . we'll have to pay this shyt back when we file taxes next year :down

That sums up about how i feel, i swear this administration or better yet all of congress have their heads sooo far up their asses.

I cannot wait until the peso is worth twice as much as the dollar and all those Texans are trying to jump the fence.

So long as Mexicans would rather abandon their country and run away from their problems, it'll never happen. The value of the dollar may crash, but that would just mean we have two third world countries next to each other.

Well the hope is that the extra money will be thrown back into the economy, if this first round doesn't work, they are going to do it again.

So how does this work?

Bloomberg.com said:
Under the plan, individuals would receive rebates of up to $600 and couples could receive $1,200, plus $300 per child, Paulson said. Rebates would be phased out for individuals earning more than $75,000 and couples earning more than $150,000. Individuals must earn at least $3,000 to get a $300 rebate.

Does that mean you only get 300 dollars if you do not earn more than 75,000 dollars? If so, that is absolutely ridiculous and completely defeats the purpose.

No, non-taxpayers must earn more than $3000 to get the $300 rebate.

So are they basically hoping this will line everyone up at best buy? I know it's not gonna be spent paying bills .

OK, now I made 45 grand this past year. That means I get the full 600 bones, right?

Sounds like my room mates and I will cover our rent for a couple of months...and then we're back to broke.

That's a screwed up thing to say. I expected better from you.

I like it because I could use the money and I'm very short-sighted when it comes to economics.

sooo...anyone else planning to spend it like Fry and buy nothing but coffee? :cwink:

I was thinking of spending it on Wii games myself... :oldrazz:

Seriously though...my sister and her husband just had a baby last weekend, so $1200 is a big help at the moment.

I just don't see how all of this is a permanent solution to anything. It's not going to put a dent into the debt most people have.

I read a comment today on a story Washington Post put on their website regarding this that I totally agreed with. It went a little something like this.

"With all the hundreds of financial advisers and economist Washington has, this is the best they could come up with."

The money is either going to be borrowed from China (bad times) or the government is just going to print more money to cover the loss; Which will devalue the dollar even more and have the reverse effect in the long term. I just hope they don't try to collect that "rebate" from the tax payers next season.

Got the whole thing!

Instead of having a $350 billion tax cut, what you do with that money is, you do a public works project. See, what that is, is you pay a lot of people to build something, okay? And that way you employ people who are unemployed. And then they get money, and they spend it, and that stimulates the ****ing economy too! So, you pick a place that really needs something. You know, a state that could really use it, like Mississippi. Of course Mississippi. Because that's the place that no one has ever thought, 'Boy, I gotta vacation. I need two weeks in Biloxi!' And you go down there and find a place that's totally in the ****ter; you won't have to go far. And what you do is build a big ****in' thing. I don't care what it is! As long as it's big and it's a ****in' thing! And then the economy will explode, because people will say, 'I've gotta see the Big ****in' Thing!' And then there'll be a Big ****in' Thing Restaurant. A Big ****in' Thing Hotel and Casino! A Big ****in' Thing Spa!

So who exactly do I report you to?
