Jesus! When is this man going to stop handing out f-ing money! What the hell!

So if I'm reading this correctly: I am married and both of us work, and we have two children. $1200 for my wife and I plus $300 per child. That's $1800.

Am I reading that right?

All its going to do for me is help me paid off some bills, and thats with my tax refund.

It actually makes a little sense given the interest rate cut. It is all done in order to stimulate spending and to forestall a recession. Also with the dollar low, investment in the US increases. Even we are considering investing some money in some US funds to benefit off the exchange rate which we hope will see a reversal within the next 2 years.

$600...nice...that'll be over 1/4th of what I owe my parents.

I'll do one of two things with my rebate. I'll either put it straight into savings, or I'll charge up the Starbucks card my cute little niece gave me for Christmas.

Oh, and it would be easy enough to pay for this rebate. But, it would involve Congress and the President actually cutting spending--not cutting the rate of growth in spending, but actually cutting spending itself. Alas . . . asking them to do that would be about as effective as asking Gollum if I could borrow the Ring for a few minutes.

Yes, as long as the two of you combined make less than $150K per year.

Are they looking at combined or individual income for married couples? Because there are plenty of households where one spouse makes more than $75k per year and the other one does not.

Technically, isn't this money just taken out of paychecks anyway?

I believe if you are married couple who is joint filing they are looking at you as a couple, which means if you make over 150K combined you do not qualify. So if you make under 150K as a couple, it wouldn't matter if one of you made 100K and the other 40K.

Yes, we'll pay for this one way or another.

FAIRTAX! There you go Matt... :)

This is a ridiculas plan, how can $600 bucks save the Economy? Think about this in reverse, If everyone in the country didn't spend an extra $600, the economy is going to crash?

Just give us all an even grand and be done with it. That's a new plasma for me...plus....400 dollars.

I'm not saying that I want to stab you in the face for mentioning Fairtax in every single thread just to irk Matt, but I want to stab you in the face for mentioning Fairtax in every single thread just to irk Matt. :hoboj:

i dont believe this is a permanent solution.
its an economic stimulus package.
it's designed to give money back to the taxpayers so that they can spend it back into the economy.

Details on how they are planning to fund this are very, very sketchy at best, leading me to believe that at some point we will pay for this, possibly with heavy interest, sometime in the future. Seems like a lot of unnecessary risk for something that has no guarantee or even real likelihood of actually accomplishing it's intended result.

Well for all those people that don't feel $600 will do them any good, feel free to wire the money to me. I will gladly absolve you of any disgust and/or revulsion at our government's stimulus plan. It's a risk I'm willing to take.

But seriously, it's been stated several times that depending on how well this goes, they'll be doing another one sooner rather than later.

As long as you agree to pay for whatever taxes the government comes back for later on to cover the costs of this ******ed idea, including the interest, you're welcome to it.
