BvS BvS: Early Tweet Discussion Thread (NO SPOILERS) - Part 5

I feel like that's an issue in and of itself though. It seems like they've assembled a great cast for the DCEU, and they could be completely wasting them in bad movies. And that sucks.
Given the internet/fan response to 50% of the casting you wouldn't know it.

As feared...Lex was horrible casting. :/

I disagree 100%, he is one of the best things about the film.
Quick which one of you is a critic, that would technically solve it.

If art was spirituality, if it was a religion even, then critics would be the Vatican. Right down to those who optimistically, cautiously, and or begrudgingly follow their decree.

If WB playing it safe means we get no more movies like Man of Steel or Batman v Superman, then I'd rather see the DCU fail then have them go the Marvel cookie cutter route. I enjoy some of the Marvel films, but if you take away the direction Snyder is going with the DCU, I will begin to resent them.

BvS has its flaws. Mainly

that it feels similar to Watchmen, in that the four hour cut is likely a much better version of the film. And that it makes a decent amount of references that are quite obviously only for DC fans and that the general audience won't get.

But the movie is filled with passion. It takes a break from the rest of the genre and forgoes the simple plots that are so prevalent in comic book films. And it pays so much respect to the characters. Could the movie have been better? Of course. All movies can. But this is more than what I wanted from this movie. Love and respect paid to my favorite characters and an intriguing plot that is neither one dimensional or watered down so that we don't have to think about it.

If it's going to be diversive, then bring it. I will quite enjoy discussing this movie with others. I can't wait until I get to see it again tomorrow.

I haven't seen Batman v Superman but i would certainly not trade Man of Steel for any movie Marvel has made until this day.

Can't believe the wait is gonna!!! Have sleepless night !!! It's been 3 years !!!!
super nervous...

I think they should keep doing what they feel is right (as long as it brings them money), instead of going for the safest formula possible. Let's wait and see how the film performs + GA reaction. Maybe critics are wrong (not for the first time, you know).

I think BVS already seemed indicative of a safe formula. Cramming DCU set-up into one film and rushing into Justice League, then painting it all with the Nolan-y Batman brush, that was probably as safe as it got for them. Non-safe at this point would be what I think they're doing with Suicide Squad. Exploring more obscure properties, chasing the Deadpool success, not just financial. Attempting the diversity of tone they tried and failed at with Green Lantern, yet again but better.

Never would have guessed the rating would be this low..

Last movie I enjoyed rated that low was Bad Boys II :o

I actually agree. Man of Steel was my favorite superhero movie of all time. I'll need to see Batman v Superman again, but right now it looks like it might take that spot away. And, if my judgement is correct, the extended edition of this movie certainly will.

After watching it, I'd say the direction Snyder took with it was anything but safe. There were parts of the movie that I was actually shocked he included. Even ignoring the much darker tone, you could never mistake Batman v Superman for a Marvel movie. Even The Winter Soldier, which I loved for how much better it was story wise than most other Marvel fare, took far fewer risks (in my estimation) than BvS. Hell, my biggest criticism for the movie was

that they needed more time to explore the plot.

There are many things you could call BvS, but I don't really think safe is one of them.

Without giving anything away, was the Batman vs Superman fight any good?

One of the biggest worries I had when this film was announced was that there would be no way they could make me believe that Batman could take on Superman. I thought the fight was handled poorly in The Dark Knight Returns, and I feared that Zack, being a fan of the novel, would just copy that.

I don't want to say too much more, but yes. The fight is good.

that's good to hear.
i do like what marvel does and they do it really well.
but i enjoy dc movies a bit more because they haven't been playing it safe.
sometimes that ends up making the movies more divisive, but i like how it doesn't try to play to the masses. it tries to do something unexpected and fresh.

some positive reactions just came from China. will get more reactions after the midnight showings.

Done!!!!

it was superb!!!
All my worries were gone!!!
it's the movie we deserve!!!
I think the only reason i didn't give it 10/10 because I don't like the ending. N superman didn't save enough in the final act...
I have some of the scenes I can't figure out though...
never mind gonna watch it tmr.
Cheer! !!!

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm seeing it again tomorrow as well. There is so much to process with this movie that I think a second viewing is necessary.

I actually really liked the ending, though it was not what I expected or the direction I likely would have gone. But I won't say anymore.

If you're in this thread and you haven't bought tickets yet, do so. Don't let the RT reviews fool you. This movie is a DC comics fan's wet dream.

3.5 hours till showtime for me. :woo:

Indeed. I find it hard to believe if some of the fans don't like it. The critics understandable as they r fool trying to be cool. :p
Repeat. The best superman movie ever!!!

OH man, I still have to wait for a whole day. Hopefully I don't get spoiled.

Thank you guys, it's nice to see there are people who really dig the movie.

there are more actually. the movie opened in some regions right now.

and many positive ones from twitter and weibo (Chinese version of twitter)

it's just that RT score is valued much more than audience reactions here:o

So I'm always lurking and I hardly ever post and I have been following this thread since the beginning of the week. There have been so many ups and downs. I won't be able to see the movie until tomorrow evening and with how bad the RT score is I have to say you guys are the only ones that are making me feel excited about this film.

I really want to thank all of you for all your positive reviews of the movie so far.

I'm a huge watchman and man of steel fan. So I struggled with all of the negative criticism when those films came out. I am positive I will enjoy this movie.

It just seems to me that many critics are so unintelligent, it's like they can't make up their mind on what they want.
