BvS BvS: Early Tweet Discussion Thread (NO SPOILERS) - Part 5

A little under 11 hours left to go until I watch it and man you guys are making me excited despite all the stupid critics bashing this movie. I freaking cannot wait I have this feeling that after its all said and done people will look back at this film and say it was a classic. I remember this exact same thing happened with watchmen and initially it garnered so much hate but as the years past it's slowly becoming one of the more beloved comic book movies.
Well one thing's for sure, just like MoS, this film will be discussed to death for many years to come. Most films that play it safe don't get that :cwink:

It isn't some revelatory cinematic experience. It is an absolute mess. That is why people are discussing it.

@titansupes

:argh:Did I just read a spoiler?!

Why do people have to just dump spoilers out. In less than 2 minutes I got spoiled on 2 plot points in 2 different threads by people who can't use spoiler tags. I skip posts with tags & black outs, but people have decided that on the day the movie opens there's no need to hide anything. :whatever:

Yeaaahh... Sorry. :O

He's talking about himself in that last line but not what you think it means

What does it mean to you, then?

It's a Green Lantern discussion with Batman fervor

Exactly this my friend. I know first hand how passionate and blindsided Batman fans can be. I've had plenty of abuse across social media for my thoughts on this universe.

It truly is blinding judgement. If either Batman or Superman were my favourite characters, I would demand MORE from WB. Way more. Not settle for this and pretend everyone else is mad for not understanding its incredibly intelligent choices.

I admit I went in a bit reserved and anxious, but still hopeful due to the praise from sf2 and roach and some others. But I came out with my mind blown. I mean damn was that a fun ride. It's like I'm looking at naysayers and thinking

This did not feel joyless at all. Everyone in my IMAX theater was pumped the eff up, so many moments had cheering and clapping, and the thunderous applause when the movie ended. Just wow.

I haven't heard this much crowd cheering in a movie in a while, and I love it. One of the reasons I go on opening weekends and not wait until crowds die down for better seats is this. The energy and cheering is what I love. The last movie I remember with this much cheering was ROTK, with so many big damn hero moments.

I also don't get the comments that this is too dark and might scar kids. I think that's an over exaggeration. Sure it's a bit darker than other affairs, but I wouldn't call it somber. There were moments of levity, though the story in the first half did move pretty fast (with questionable editing. Hey I didn't say it was perfect :cwink:).

But overall, I really loved it, despite some flaws. Even my friend who absolutely hated MoS and rated it lower than GL thought it was great, and thought the RT score was definitely not warranted. I give it an 8/10. Definitely worth to move the DCEU forward.

...

Then, it's good they are not your favorite characters.

Plenty of people here, including myself, find the movie interesting and doing justice to the characters - Batman and Superman.

(Of course, they are among my favorite characters). I was afraid they might prop up one for the other (like so many people have done in comics and animated form; Timm's animated universe, for instance). But, Snyder manages to balance it well.

And, we are not pretending anything. It's not our fault some fans are close minded enough to ruin the movie experience (I get that to an extent - passion towards a specific iteration of these characters). But, if there's anything DC fans should be used to by now, it is that DC revels in multiple takes on these characters.

Well finally seen it with my missus and mate. my mate and I loved it and the missus didn't
Me and my mate both give it 4/5 - its not perfect but highly enjoyable.

Seriously. The thread title specifically says no spoilers. I've seen the movie twice, but I'd be pissed if I hadn't. I think this thread just needs more mods, at it's several hours later that I'm reading this and the spoilers are still there.

It's a Green Lantern discussion with Batman fervor

It's okay to not like the film, but let's not lose perspective here. BvS may not be the best comic book movie in the world, but you lose a lot of credibility with me if you are to say it was as poorly put together as GL. BvS is easily better than these other comic book movies:

Batman and Robin
Superman 4
Green Lantern
Wolverine
X-Men the Last Stand
Thor 2
Spiderman 3

And for me, I'd argue it's much better than MOS (and many other movies that I didn't want to bring up in order to avoid that kind of discussion). In a list of all the comic book movies ever made, it'd probably be in my top 10....definitely 15. So let's just relax here... no need to be so hyperbolic just because you're currently dissapointed.

How many more movies must people endure of Supes being an insufferable, stone-faced bore? Seriously? It's two films now.

There's something called "balance", which some fail to understand.
The irony of this statement is subtle but present imo. I don't think it's balance you are seeking it's something more.

As always some people are failing to see the context driving aspect of it. Maybe superman should have smiled his way into that senate hearing(like that other movie), maybe he should have smiled at lex, maybe he should have smiled at batman during their first meeting(in costume) and then in their fight I know batman sure did, maybe he should have smiled at doomsday or when he was arguing with perry. When what you really mean/want is that he simply doesn't argue with Perry but has something to smile about. You want a different movie which is fine. One in which there are more happy scenes and less dramatic ones.
But the idea that even in the source material superman is never presented with context driven emotional responses no. Did he smile at lois? or When he was happy, if no then there is an issue I(speaking for myself) can get behind. More of this as a preference would be great for some, it not being there isn't some inherent flaw.

How much did he smile in Kingdom come(acclaimed book but I suppose that was just better excuted). I just don't get why dc isn't allowed to do this at all. It's not just that it's in the source but what exactly is wrong it. This his to be the one instance where combating people's preconceptions is a war even alfred would sit out.

I'd say, "yes, it's definitely better than:
Batman and Robin
Green Lantern
Wolverine (s)
Superman 4
Spider-man 3

And I will add MOS to the list too... I enjoyed BvS a lot more than MOS.

The other movies you listed to me are good examples of how I see the film and ironically I don't dislike any of these films. Yes, I do see the major flaws in each of them, but overall I personally get more good from them than I do bad. So I would say that BvS fits perfectly in line with the following:
*X-Men the Last Stand
*Thor 2

....that's about how good i thought it was- and as i said i have more good feelings than bad about these majorly flawed movies.

Finally saw it. I liked it. Spoiler free quickie review. Just got home and need to settle in.

The problems I had with the movie stem from editing and music. I followed the whole story. But there were a sequence of scenes that set up the story that could have been combined. Would have offered a smother transition because it really wasn't all that complicated. It's just less jarring when you have less/longer scenes rather than more/shorter scenes.

Music was great BUT you don't need to use everyone's theme all the time. Somtimes no music or a low hum creates better tension.

Lex was my fav . I love spacey and Hackman but I feel like this was the real lex luthor. Jesse's lex can lead the legion of doom.

Agree with your assessment, Marz69. I really liked Superman though, he is so conflicted and I LOVE that about him. If real world happens to have a Superman, it would be this one.

Batman and Wonder Woman are both badasses. But this is Superman's film ultimately.

Pretty much me and my brother.

Yes this was a superman film. It even had his villain :woot:

Superman was the one I felt for the most. I liked his tender moments.

ya. i love jeese upon 2nd viewing. his facial expression is creepy.

Just got back from the theater and I have to say it was fantastic. Yes there were issues with editing but the story was just great!!! One thing no one mentioned on here is that they seem to have got an idea with this story of already several films ahead. Idk I loved it.

My girlfriend doesn't know anything about this stuff and she was blown away also my best friend and his wife loved it as well.

This is a deep story with so many layers and I'm looking forward to all of it. The critics are insane and obviously don't get it. I want to talk so much about this movie but this thread is spoiler free but I'm scared to go outside of this thread with all the negativity out there. It's in my top 5 superhero movies of all time that's for sure.

from OD reactions, not going to have legs in China: not enough action sequences.
Wonder Woman is going to form a fan base though.

You know, that is funny.

In MOS, many folks were complaining about too much action.

And for BvS, I am seeing a lot of people (particularly critics) saying not enough action.

:oldrazz:

Anyways, the action that is there - it blows pretty much everything else out of the water (in terms of CBMs, at least).

well I officially don't care about whatever the land of "everyone is professional critic" do with BvS anymore.

In China, if you don't have enough action or exciting plot points every 10 minute or so, you need to pull Interstellar kind of stories to have good legs at Boxoffice.

Batman v Superman OR "Hey you remember Superman? Yea forget him, BATMAN!! Batman Now. Batman this, Batman that. Batman is NEXT! Batman."

Thank you to all critics who gave me expectations so low that I was able to moderately enjoy BATMAN V SUPERMAN.
