Considering how most of the James Bond news I have come across lately has revolved around cars, it was a welcome change to get some more substantial news about the sequel from Patrick yesterday. Now, USA Today spoke with director Martin Campbell about his involvement in the spy franchise and the Casino Royale DVD release. There is plenty of info about the extras on the DVD, including behind-the-scenes of some of the film's more elaborate action sequences. The real eye-catcher in the interview though is the director's answer to the question about whether he is on board for the upcoming Bond 22. Campbell was quoted as saying. "After GoldenEye, I was asked to do subsequent Bonds, but I declined because it felt as if I'd be repeating myself. But this one is based on a Bond that's more interesting. To be honest, I would just say I'd never say never." Is it just me, or does that quote seem to put former Bond Pierce Brosnan into the less than "interesting" camp?

This seems to be a bit of a switch from what Campbell was saying back in January when he was still claiming that he would not be returning for the sequel. But, it doesn't look like he is going to be giving a straight answer anytime soon. With Bond 22 skedded to be released on November 7, 2008, you'd think a decision will have to come sooner rather than later.

Well, it would be great if he came back. His direction on CASINO ROYALE was phenomenal.

Casino Royale was AMAZING! that would be awesome if he came back!!!!

He is going to come back, he may sit this next one out, but he will come back he'd be crazy to pass up this Franchise, this is making his name.

Actually, I doubt it. If Martin Campbell doesn't do BOND 22, I don't think he'll ever do another Bond film. He's 67 years old, and I imagine he's going to want to do a few films that are more "his" before he retires.

I'd love for him to come back. He's already successfully rebooted this franchise twice with, for my money, the two best Bonds in 30 years.

I hope he comes back, casino royale was the ONE. I'd be interested to see where he takes bond from there!

What did Campbell do of note after Goldeneye. I'd say it was his films that were less than interesting.

Oh forgive me, there was Academy Award Winning Legend Of Zorro.........

^^Exactly, this man gives Bond his presence, I don't think I'd want another Director.. Unless Matt Vaughan wants to Direct the next one.

wow, if he does come back then i have officially nothing to worry about, and i can sit back and wait for 2008 to be perfectly flawless.

Exactly why I think we need him to come back. He seems to be the only director these days capable of making a truly great 007 film. Otherwise, we may get another three mediocre films straight before another good one.

Lets hope third times a charm for Campbell. Sometimes great Bond directors don't do so well during repeats. I mean, look at Guy Hamiliton. He directed the greatest Bond film EVER, which is Goldfinger. Yet, he also directed Live & Let Die and The Man with the Golden Gun.

Good point.

I have yet to see Legend Of Zorro, but The Mask of Zorro was an AWESOME movie!

Who's dissin' Live and Let Die?

Legend of Zorro wasn't as good as Mask but it's still a fun film. you'll have to suspend your disbelief but i don't think it deserves to be viewed as negatively as most critics do...

I think you're confusing the films. The first, well-received film was The Mask of Zorro. The sequel, which flopped critically and financially, was The Legend of Zorro.

oh yeah....that's what i meant. my fingers were just going to fast for my brain...

I bought the CR DVD for £7.00 from my local Tesco store and I'm looking forward to Campbell's return in BOND 22.

How the hell did you buy CR for £7 at Tesco? My Tesco is selling it for £13 or £9 if you buy a chart DVD.

Hell, I went to Tesco today and they're selling it for £7 if you buy a chart DVD. Damn, I should have waited a little before buying it when it first came out.
