Can we finally agree that Evil Dead 2 is a sequel?

Yeah, it rules so hard that if EDII were human instead of movie it would the King of the World.

We can definately agree that Evil Dead 2 rules. I love it so much, i think the reason Raimi made it similar to the first one yet still called it a "sequal" was so that it could continue on the events of the first one ( for those who wanted a sequal) in a pretty non direct way. This way, people who had never seen the first one, which there was a lot of, would understand the film and perhaps not even realise it was a direct continuation of the first film.

We can all finally agree on something. :)

Does it matter? These movies are overated cheese. I will never understand why these movies have such a large cult following.

yeah, and michael bay makes great, deep action movies. you have s**ty taste, we get it.

well Evil dead 2 and army of Darkness are the main movies, Evil dead 1 was a stand alone film without comedy elements.

what do you mean no comedy elements?

I think the way possessed Linda giggles after she stabs the other guy in the back is funny as hell.

What about the tree rape? I can't be the only one who found that ****ing hilarious

What doesn't make sense? Why people think its a remake? Well, people claim its a remake because the film starts with Ash and his g/f going to the cabin. In the first one its like 5 people or something. Also, the beginning of the movie doesn't feel like a recap since there's no narration or montage.

But, I think its always been obvious its a sequel for two reasons.

1) The title tells you.
2) Ash arrives at the cabin, reads the book, releases the deadites, and kills his possessed g/f in like 5 minutes. That always felt like a quick recap to me.

Agree. I think people get confused because the first few minutes and has a recap of what happened in the first one...and ignore that 5 people were at the cabin. But yes, it is a sequel.

I prefer the first one and to take it as a cheap-ass, non-comedic movie.
When we snuck it to watch it as kids, we were not laughing at the cackling demon-possessed girl and we were not laughing at the Tree Rape.
It freaked us out and seemed like an Evil film.
I think it's best for non-jaded kids to see it early on.

my friends and i joked about the tree rape after the fact, but while we watched it for the first time it was more a case of staring at the screen and going "...oh...there's no way they're going to...ouch". it's mainly funny when you try to explain "tree rape" to people who haven't seen it and they go, oh yeah, so she gets ****ed up by the trees? and you have to say no, literally, tree rape.

yeah... dont' get me wrong, the first time I saw that scene I just stared at the screen in shock. And I'm not implying that I find real rape funny either, but dammit today when I see that scene I can't help but laugh.

I mean, come on! They used wood...for rape. It doesn't get more tongue in cheek than that. And who can say the idea of a perverted forest isn't a little bit funny :D!

I watched this movie again today after hearing what you guys said, and your right, this movie is a sequel. If Raimi couldn't of used footage from the first movie,or get the original actors to show a recap of what happened in the first movie, then he shouldn't of used it.

Fact is,he should of just cut out that entire first 7 minutes of this movie, and just have the movie open up with the thing chasing Ash where we left off in the first movie,we didn't need a recap.

Because for people who have no idea Raimi was trying to show a recap in the first 7 minutes, everyone of those people think this movie is a remake.

Back in `87 not many people had seen the original Evil Dead. It was more a cult thing. So, he did that so anyone could watch the movie and know what was going on.
