Okay so sorry to have to do a complete new thread for this but I'm sure there are people who feel the same way as me.

I would really have to seriously question the sanity and intelligence of the writers if they decide to do the whole origin story again.
I remember it so clearly the first time I saw the first Spider-Man, I remember loving it, thinking it was great and I was only 8 years old.
I somehow think that kids will have watched the first Spider-Man film. I love the first Superman and that came out about 14 years before I was born.

Don't give me that crap about a new generation will now know the origin.

Everyone who I know is aware of the origin and a good amount of people in the world know the main characters and generally what happens. We don't need to be re-told and re-told everything that happens to Peter when he gets bit by a spider.

First we were told that the films would be set in school even for the sequels as well, I was cool with that, those scenes were completely rushed in Raimi's.
But when they cast the now 27 year old Garfield I definitely thought it was a logical choice to put him in college. Now I hear they will put him in school. I bet you he will graduate during the movie just because of Garfield's age.

How many times? Either set it in high school for the entire movie or in college the entire movie, unless they really do want to do a complete re-hash of the 1st film. :whatever:

Can we just jump straight into the action, assuming people know the general story, have him in college and have occasional flashbacks to the past?
Which is basically what the 90's animated series did and look how great that was.

I had a lot of hope for this film at first. Once I heard it was Garfield I assumed they would do the films in college and I also thought they would have 2 love interests, with MJ playing a minor part.

Now I hear MJ has been completely cut so it pretty much sounds like the 1st Spider-Man with that one girl he pines and longs after.

So much for making it different. :whatever:

The Lizard is a good choice for a villain (I'm a little pissed off that they didn't just put him in the now cancelled SM4, but hey, what do they say about crying over spilt milk?) but I don't know if he can carry an entire movie himself.
There's not enough threat there because you know he's really just Doc Connors who just got caught up in a horrible experiment.
We need a good and significant villain, or just one alongside Connors who is more of a bad guy himself but is more of a supporting villain.

Someone like Electro would be perfect.

I'm excited for this reboot, don't get me wrong, why do you think I'd be on here if I wasn't? :oldrazz:

But some of the choices they're making sound awfully familiar to a certain Raimi franchise I know.

It was leaked awhile ago that Peter's grades will slip because of his focus on being Spider-Man, resulting in his being held back for at least two films.

I agree it should be different, which is why I've been suggesting that Aunt May be a 30-something ex-model instead of Granny May. We just don't need that again. Been there, done that. Let's have something new for a change.

Night Raven, no...just no. That's too different. And it's pointless :down

I agree, bizworth

They are making it different. It's Gwen who's the leading lady. That alone is different. And of course they will have MJ in it eventually. We are getting 3 movies. So in the sequel, we'll probably get her eventually.
The whole High School/College thing is a mess, and I don't think we have been told any confirming information on if it's been set in High School or College.
I agree, no origin story! Either have an opening scene of flashbakcs, or have flashbacks throughout the movie, like they did in TSSM
We have not been told if Lizard is the villain. I don't care if one website says it is confirmed, until Webb and/or Sony announce who the villain is, I'm not buying it. And neither should you

The Lizard can easily carry his own movie and thrill the masses while he's doing it...if it's well written and directed and not aimed at children.

Too bad Spider-Man is aimed at children and teens. Stan Lee made Spider-Man for kids. He didn't make it for 30 year olds who like the f bomb and decapitations.

You are sick. You are not supposed to be lusting after Aunt May, kid.

Now I don't know what kind of Mrs. Robinson fantasies you've been having but please God dont let it creep into Spidey.

No he cant. As a villain he's too tame. He can carry an episode, but not a movie. And it is for children as well, duh.

Night Raven has an Oedipus complex.

In a rambling post.. I think this speaks volumes to doing the origin in a new way via flashbacks in the Reboot.

Exactly!

wow...you suggest this again?
never will i want a hot aunt may. no one does.

But it would different from Raimi's.

please no origin. how many people on the face of this planet don't know the origin of spider-man batman and superman? and yet you are force fed the origin, over and over and over again.

Slight exaggeration there. This would be the second time it's been done in a movie.

Second time....in ten years. And that right there is the problem, I think.

Probably the same thing they say about crying over milk that hasn't even left the cow yet.

Lizard can work in a two hour movie if you know how to write him.As long as the movie is not over focused on the love story aspect of Peter(a main problem with the first movies imo.) and focus more on the everyman.

Have the story of Doc Conners becoming the Lizard and destorying his family and his life run parrell with how being Spider-man is causing a strain on peter's life which if he cant find balance it will destory it as well and you have more then enough to make a two hour movie. Adding more characters(except maybe as a opening) would colg it up so much that you would get a movie with no story.

This what needs to be different and which was deleted in a different thread.

Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy tried to instill EMOTIONAL WEIGHT to his franchise, however, in my opinion, failed. When you couple cheesiness and camp to your films it discredits the emotional weight you are striving for.

Now given Spider-Man is such an unbelievable profitable property, that was probably the filmmakers intentions - to water it down, to not scare the kids.

I HATE THAT.

Batman Begins, the Dark Knight - was successfull at unstilling emotional weight and genuiness because their was a severe lack of camp.

If you treat people with intelligence with movies on these properties by NOT camping it up, you will get a good response.

Yea yeah throw the gross revenue numbers at me with your rebutle, I don't care. It's Spider-Man, it will sell in the desert, ok.

This time around, get rid of the camp, the cheese, but keep the fun. It's possible people, it really really is.

I know. Models is what we need even when they're blind to it.

But I'll tell you, don't listen to them. These fan boys are so stubborn about so many things. Sure, Peter Parker is bitten by a spider in the original comics. I say, WHY people? Let's make it a bee or a horsefly. Or is it that you are so discriminative against certain insects?

Now I suggest this for the next J J Jameson:

It's different and it's fresh.

On a different note I think the whole idea after a reboot is to have a different approach.

This reboot will be different from Raimi's.. Origin or not. Told via a flashback or not.

Whether an origin is told or not (and how it will be told) is a minor point to making this Reboot different from Raimi's verse, especially considering how many more critical points there are to differentiate it.

They can easily do one of two things:

1. Let him Spend this whole movie in high School and show his graduation during a flash back in the sequel or even show him graduate during an opening monologue in the sequel.

Or

2. Make him graduate at the very END OF THE FILM like James Cameron was going to do(Only thing in his treatment that didnt make me puke)

Problem solved. IMO
