NBC Gives Craig Robinson’s Comedy Series Order With Mark Cullen & Rob Cullen As Showrunners
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

A year after it was ordered to pilot, Craig Robinson’s NBC comedy project, Mr. Robinson, is going to series with a six-episode order. The single-camera comedy is going on the air with a new behind-the-scenes team as Mark Cullen and Rob Cullen have come on board as executive producers/showrunners. Greg Daniels, who oversaw the development and executive produced the pilot, will no longer be involved. (He also ended his relationship with Mr. Robinson producer Universal TV earlier this year.) Also gone is the project’s writer, Owen Ellickson, who served as a exec producer on the pilot. Mr. Robisnon stars Robinson as a journeyman musician gets a job as a music teacher at a middle school. While teaching the kids everything from rock to the blues, he simultaneously learns how to put the school’s rules to the test. Uni TV and 3 Arts are producing, with the Cullens, Howard Klein and Mark Schulman exec producing. Mr. Robinson didn’t make the cut in May but NBC left the pilot in contention. Robinson is the only original cast member that has a deal in place to return.

Sounds like School of Rock, but Craig Robinson is hilarious, so I'll give it a chance.

Cool, might watch Craig Robinson's new show.

Still bummed I can't watch Will Arnett's new show, I love him so much

Comedy Created By & Starring Denis Leary As Middle-Aged Rocker Gets FX Pilot Order
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Rescue Me co-creator/star Denis Leary is back in business with FX, this time on the comedy side. FX Networks has given a pilot order to Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, written by and starring Leary as a middle-aged rock ‘n roller who desperately wanted to be rich and famous but so far, he’s 0 for 2. The show will feature original music and occasional guest appearances by actual rock stars. The pilot, tentatively slated to film in the spring in New York City, is produced by FX Prods. and Fox Television Studios where Leary and Jim Serpico’s Apostle has a cable deal. Leary and Serpico exec produce. As is the case with most FX comedy pilots, Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is being ordered under the FX Networks umbrella, with a decision whether the project would be for flagship FX or comedy-centric FXX to be made at a series pickup. “Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is a terrific script and concept with Denis Leary’s signature brand of comedy,” said FX president of original programming Eric Schrier. “Denis is a tremendous talent who played a major role in the growth of our network with Rescue Me, which was one of the most groundbreaking series of the last decade.” Added Leary, “I am very excited to be returning to FX where working with Nick (Grad), Eric and John Landgraf has been one of the best creative experiences of my life. Plus I hear they have much better swag now.”

Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, which has no connection to Eric Bogosian’s play of the same name, is centered on Johnny Rock (Leary) who, as the magnificently talented lead singer of New York’s legendary early 90′s band The Heathens, was on his way to the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. His best friend Flash was being called the next number one lead guitar player on planet earth. The critics loved them. Their live shows were selling out. But Johnny had a problem with booze. And coke. And weed. And pills. And cough medicine. And oh yeah – he slept with Flash’s wife. And his bass player’s fiancée. The band broke up the same day their first and only record was released. 25 years later Johnny is trying to get the band back together. Why? Because as his soon-to-be-ex manager Ira Feinbaum tells him: “Johnny, you’re 50, broke and completely anonymous. In rock ‘n roll you know what that makes you? A bartender.” 25 years later the sex might be harder to find, the drugs might be Luvox and Crestor and Cialis – but rock ‘n roll will never die. It just has a bigger prostate.

Leary, Serpico and Apostle are currently in production on the upcoming USA series, Sirens, and also produce the IFC comedy Maron, starring Marc Maron, both through FtvS. Leary is repped by WME and Ziffren, Brittenham.

With two networks carrying comedy series, FX Networks has been very aggressive in half-hour development, with Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll joining seven other live-action and animated comedy pilots, including the Billy Crystal-Josh Gad starrer The Comedians, also produced by FtvS.
Johnny Rock? Clever name, Leary.... otherwise, I'd watch. :o:up:

Loved Leary in Rescue Me so ill check this out. He does crazy and broken well.

'Pushing Daisies' Alum Anna Friel to Star in NBC's 'Odyssey' (Exclusive)
4:44 PM PST 1/7/2014 by Lesley Goldberg

"The Carrie Diaries" favorite Jake Robinson will co-star in the "Traffic"-like pilot from writer/executive producer Peter Horton.

NBC has found its leading lady for drama pilot Odyssey.

Pushing Daisies alum Anna Friel will star in the Traffic-like thriller from writer/executive producer Peter Horton, The Hollywood Reporter has learned, with The Carrie Diaries favorite Jake Robinson also boarding the project.

Odyssey centers on three families who are torn apart when a stranded female soldier, a disillusioned corporate attorney and a disrespected political activist are pulled into the same shocking international military conspiracy.

Friel, who most recently co-starred in Showtime's Kyle Chandler pilot The Vatican, will play Sgt. Odelle Ballard, a fierce leader who left her husband and child at home and is the only woman in the squad. Robinson, who recurs on The CW's sophomore drama as Walt's boyfriend Bennet, will play Harrison Wolcott, a member of a group of protesters against the G8 summit in New York. He's vehemently anti-capitalist and the son of a wealthy member of the financial elite. The character is destined to stumble upon a conspiracy and, in time, make real change in the world.

The Following's Adam Armus and Kay Foster will pen the script and executive produce alongside Horton, who will direct the pilot and pen episodes should the project move forward.

Friel's credits include Bryan Fuller's Pushing Daisies and features Limitless and Land of the Lost. She's repped by UTA and Ken McReddie Associates.

For Robinson -- who received a straight offer for the project without having to test, Odyssey is in first position to Carrie Diaries since he is not considered a series regular. Should Odyssey and Carrie both move forward, the actor hopes to be able to work on both. He's repped by Innovative and Laurie Smith at Smith Talent Group.

I literally yawned at the premise of "rich kid rebels against daddy" in that synopsis for Odyssey. I yawned again when he is meant to "make real change in the world."

That sounds so trite I'm going to pass just because of that character alone.

NBC Gives Pilot Orders To Comedies ‘Mason Twins’ & ‘A To Z’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

NBC has given pilot orders to two more comedies, Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael’s Mason Twins and Ben Queen/Le Train Train’s A to Z.

Single-camera Mason Twins, from ABC Studios, is written/exec produced by Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael and exec produced by Stacy Traub who supervised the script. Having been estranged for 15 years, fraternal twins Pender and Lizzie Mason reconnect after Lizzie’s perfect city life has fallen apart, and she returns to her suburban town to find that her sister hasn’t matured past her teen queen days. The project stems from the deal Happy Endings and SNL alumna Wilson and Raphael inked with ABC Studios in August. The duo also has DINKS, a half-hour with Jonathan Groff, at ABC with a pilot production commitment. Wilson and Raphael, who met in a clown class at NYU, are long-time writing and stage partners and best friends. They have performed together at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, co-wrote the feature Bride Wars and wrote and starred in the film Ass Backwards.

A to Z, from Warner Bros. Television, Rashida Jones and Will McCormack’s Le Train Train and writer Ben Queen, is a whimsical romantic comedy set in the world of an on-line dating company that details the “A to Z’s” of a relationship, from meeting to break-up. The ensemble navigates the complicated world of modern dating and poses the question: Is there such a thing as destiny? Queen, Jones and McCormack executive produce. Jeff Grosvenor, Le Train Train’s head of development, is producing. This marks the first pilot order for Le Train Train, which is in its first development season at WBTV. A to Z had a put pilot commitment, as does the company’s Stuck with Ali Rushfield at Fox. Le Train Train’s sales also include The Revengers with Kara Taylor at the CW and a project at HBO. Queen, creator of the Fox series Drive, also has an adaptation of the comic book Unthinkable for Fox with a put pilot commitment with Howard Gordon exec producing.
Casey Wilson. :atp: I wish she was starring in the pilot.

NBC Picks Up Thriller Drama Pilot Based On Israeli Series ‘The Gordin Cell’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

NBC followed up the two comedy pilot orders this afternoon with a pickup for drama Coercion (formerly M.I.C.E.). Based on the Israeli format The Gordin Cell, the project hails from Universal Television and Keshet Media Group, which is behind the original series. Written/directed and exec produced by George Nolfi and exec produced by Keshet CEO Avi Nir, the high-octane thriller revolves around the O’Connor family and their son, Alex, a decorated American war hero and CIA analyst who is a true patriot and loves his country and family. Unbeknownst to him, both of his parents and his sister are part of a dormant Russian sleeper cell that has just been reactivated. Once the parents get reluctantly pulled back in, the stakes rise they are coerced into spying on their own son and turning him against his country. This is NBC’s second stab at adapting The Gordin Cell. Last season, it teamed with Peter Berg and Sarah Aubrey’s Film 44, with Berg writing the script. They are no longer involved.

Brittany Snow To Star In ABC Comedy Pilot ‘An American Education’
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: Pitch Perfect‘s Brittany Snow is set as the female lead opposite Jack Whitehall in ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot An American Education, based on the BBC Three series Bad Education. British actor-comedian Whitehall, who created and starred in the original series, is reprising his role as Alfie Wickers, now a British transplant and an unorthodox young teacher in the San Diego public school system. Alfie loves his students, but his youthful, often naive enthusiasm and unconventional methods put him at odds with the test-obsessed administrators. Snow, repped by ICM Partners, Magnolia Entertainment and Ziffren Brittenham, will play Sarah McIntyre, an earnest and book-smart chemistry teacher who is the object of Alfie’s eye as her current boyfriend is leaving the country. Rosie Perez co-stars the school’s hard-assed vice principal. Craig Zisk is directing from a script by Peter Huyck and Alex Gregory.

...oh. I think I saw a commercial for it yesterday.

And that's all I ever heard about it.

I wish the CBS show "Intelligence" would be cancelled. I haven't seen it at all, but the promos just make me want to bang my head against a wall. CBS might be the #1 network thanks to all of their formulaic, unoriginal cop procedurals and sitcoms...but they're still lame for hardly ever taking a risk.

Oh please.

it was ok. They did some clever things with the gimmick, but the exposition dumps weren't handled all that well.

I'll keep watching, but my expectations are only slightly better.

And the woman is hot :p

I guess it's a good thing you don't have to watch it. :o
