I was surprised to see the BBC shows being axed from Netflix. It's a really stupid move on whoever's part it is to do that.
More likely the BBC's since there's been talk of them doing their own streaming archive for quite some time.
Silvio Horta Magical Latino Family Drama, Marriage Show Get NBC Pilot Orders
by Nellie Andreeva
UPDATED: NBC continues to be ahead of the pack on pilot orders with a green light to dramas The Curse Of The Fuentes Women, from Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta, and Love Is a Four Letter Word, from playwright-TV writer Diana Son (Blue Bloods).
After its first four pilot pickups went to sister studio Universal TV, today’s orders are to outside suppliers, Warner Bros. TV and 20th Century Fox TV. They also show diversity, going to pilots from a Latino and Asian American creators.
Written/executive produced by Horta, The Curse Of The Fuentes Women hails from from his Silent H Prods. and Warner Bros TV. When a magical and mysterious young man inexplicably emerges from the ocean, he breathes new passion into the lives of the Fuentes women – the beautiful but lonely Lola, her ailing mother Esperanza and her troubled daughter Soledad. Andrew Maher also exec produces.
Magic seems to be the early focus for NBC’s drama picks this season. The first hourlong project that has gotten a pilot green light, Warrior, mixes magic and martial arts.
Love Is a Four Letter Word, from 20th TV and Fabrik, chronicles the collision of race, sexuality and gender roles when three diverse couples put modern marriage to the test. Son wrote the script and is exec producing with Mikkel Bondesen, Henrik Bastin and Kristen Campo. Red Arrow-owned Farbrik, which has long been under a cable deal at Fox TV Studios — now part of 20th TV unit Fox 21 TV Studios — also produces NBC’s midseason drama series Odyssey.
These marks NBC’s fifth and sixth pilot orders — three dramas and three comedies. Fox has one, drama Minority Report, while the other broadcast networks are yet to get on the board. (CBS has the Criminal Minds planted spinoff.)
Please please please...UPDATE: According to the Best of Netflix, the two parties are in talks and "the odds are very good" that they'll come to an agreement shortly after, or even just before, the shows are pulled.
This and the similarly themed Bad Judge I'm kind of surprised got cancelled but I kind of figured it would be happening to both since ratings aren't great this time of year for anything.
Eva Longoria Comedy ‘Telenovela’ A Go At NBC With 13-Episode Order
by Nellie Andreeva
NBC has landed Eva Longoria for next season, giving a 13-episode order to her NBC single-camera comedy Telenovela, which will mark Longoria’s first starring role since Desperate Housewives.
The project already had a big commitment at the pitch stage — Telenovela, from Cougar Town co-executive producers Chrissy Pietrosh and Jessica Goldstein and Universal TV, was going to get a 13-episode order if Longoria committed to star and a pilot order if she didn’t. Additionally, since Telenovela is set behind the scenes of a telenovela, NBC was in discussions with sister network Telemundo for 4-5-minute segments in Spanish that would be used to promote the NBC series to Spanish-speaking audiences.
NBC was one of two networks that was pursuing Longoria in a big way this development season. At ABC, there was a comedy from ABC Studios and the Trophy Wife team of Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky. It was fast-tracked as a script that will go to pilot with a 13-episode penalty for Longoria attached if she commits to star.
Longoria had been developing Telenovela through her Universal TV-based UnbeliEVAble at NBC for some time. Based on an idea by Longoria, it centers on an ambitious telenovela star — a character created for her — who struggles to stay on top in a world where the drama on-camera is nothing compared to the drama off-camera.
Since the end of Desperate Housewives, Longoria had been focused on producing through her UnbeliEVAble banner. She executive produces Lifetime’s Devious Maids and her company has sold several projects this development season, including medical drama Critical at NBC and Texas political/family drama Pair Of Aces at ABC.
It was painful to watch because it hardly made me laugh, the only reason I did was to see Eliza Coupe in short skirts and high heels.Sawyer said:I'd complain about Benched being cancelled because it means losing another Eliza Coupe show, but I didn't even bother to watch that one, so...
