I can't help but wonder if AMC's idiotic strategy of holding the previews of their big series (Breaking Bad, TWD) to air during the next show (Low Winter Sun, in BB's cast) is the reason for their failing. They seem to think it's an incentive to watch, as far as I'm concerned, it pisses me off enough that I DON'T want to watch, just out of spite, and instead wait for it online.

It's doubtful that it's the reason Low Winter Sun not doing well, but they still need to do away with it.

Little more on Line of Sight...

http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/amc-orders-line-sight-drama-446544
Described as a "genre-bending odyssey," Line of Sight is the story of Lewis Bernt's search to find out what happened to him. He becomes a man whose world, as he knows it, unravels in a whirlwind of obsession and paranoia.

"Blake Masters has created a world and set of characters that defy the traditional boundaries of drama and sci-fi. It's got great elements of both genres while also having that unique blend of a conspiracy thriller. It is genuinely unexpected and unconventional,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC’s executive vice president of original programming, production and digital content. “It is also great to be working with our incredible partners at FTVS again."

I noticed this week that AMC used a Walking Dead preview during LWS instead of Breaking Bad. I see no problem with saving the preview for next week but the people you upset will be very vocal while the people who don't care will either not watch, watch and not like the show or like the show they but you'll only hear about pissed off Breaking Bad fans. They've used this for a few years now when they've expanded their programing. What they need to do is air the promo for next week like usual but then tease fans about a scene from next week's episode in LWS. The Breaking Bad promos are almost like the Mad Men ones now where you don't really know what is going to happen but it looks great. I would much rather see 30 seconds, that doesn't spoil anything.

They probably have the data to back up them doing this, its the content (reality shows, LWS) that people have to watch they don't like.

Why are so many films being made into tv shows?

Less risk, audiences are already familiar with the characters/premise just like the movie studios rely on comic book characters or toy lines now.

Paul Giamatti To Star In FX Comedic Drama Pilot Based On Charles Willeford’s Novels
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

Hoke, a darkly comedic drama starring Paul Giamatti, has received a pilot order at FX. Based on Charles Willeford’s series of novels Sideswipe, New Hope for the Dead and The Way We Die Now, the project was written by feature scribe Scott Frank, who will direct the pilot and he will be showrunner if Hoke goes to series. Hoke is a story of mid-life crisis and murder that features the hardboiled and possibly insane homicide detective, Hoke Moseley (Giamatti), in pre-chic Miami circa 1985. Giamatti, Frank, Curtis Hanson, Carol Fenelon and Dan Carey executive produce for FX Prods. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year in Miami. “Like Elmore Leonard, Charles Willeford is one of the most deeply respected writers of crime fiction and he created a wholly original and colorful lead character in Detective Hoke Mosely,” said FX president of original programming Eric Schrier. “Scott Frank delivered a magnificent script and we are honored that Paul Giamatti will bring Hoke to life.”

Frank received an Oscar nomination for his adaptation of Out Of Sight and a Golden Globe noination for his adaptation of another Leonard novel, Get Shorty. He just adapted and directed A Walk Among the Tombstones, from the novel by Lawrence Block, starring Liam Neeson for Universal. Giamatti is reprped by Kipperman Management and UTA; Hanson, Fenelon and Carey are qith UTA; Frank is with CAA. Hoke joins two other drama pilots in production at FX, The Strain from Guillermo del Toro and Carlton Cuse; and Tyrant from Howard Gordon, Gideon Raff and Craig Wright.

Present-Day Take On ‘Les Misérables’ From Rob Thomas Lands At Fox With Penalty
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: Rob Thomas is turning to a great European classic for his next series project. The Veronica Mars creator has teamed with actor-writer Graham Norris for a drama inspired by Victor Hugo’s novel Les Misérables. The project, from Warner Bros TV and Rob Thomas Prods, has landed at Fox with script commitment plus penalty. Written by Norris, the contemporary take is a primetime soap about a brilliant lawyer running a legal exoneration program who fights to evade the consequences of his own unjust conviction many years before. He must navigate high society, continue his mission of saving innocent people, and manage his tumultuous family and romantic life — all while staying one step ahead of a ruthless U.S. Attorney who refuses to let the ghosts of the past die. Thomas is executive producing with frequent collaborators Danielle Stokdyk and Dan Etheridge who all worked with him on UPN’s Veronica Mars, ABC’s Cupid and Starz’s Party Down. Norris serves as supervising producer.

Les Misérables has been made popular in the U.S. and around the world by the success of the eponymous musical and last year’s feature that starred Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway and was nominated for the Best Picture Oscar. This is the second classic 19th century French novel to get a contemporary take as a soapy primetime drama. ABC’s Revenge was inspired by Alexadre Dumas’ The Count Of Monte Cristo. UTA-repped Thomas has been busy working on his long-gestating Veronica Mars movie, which recently took off through crowdfunding.
lol at a few instances of nerd rage I've seen on twitter. It's like they think he's doing a full fledged remake set in the present day. I wonder how they feel about Animated Lions Hamlet, Biker Club Hamlet and The Count of Monte Cristo being set in the Hamptons.

As for me, the guy gave me Veronica Mars, so he can do whatever the **** he wants and I'll be there.

CW In Talks For ‘Wizard Of Oz’ Drama Produced By ‘Heroes’ Creator Tim Kring
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: The summer of Wizard Of Oz continues with another sale of a high-profile Oz-themed drama project. I’ve learned that the CW is in negotiations for Dorothy Must Die, a drama from the Heroes trio of creator/exec producer Tim Kring and exec producers Adam Armus and Nora Kay Foster. Written by Armus and Foster with Kring supervising, I hear the project is based on the upcoming young adult novel Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige. It is a revisionist take on the classic tale set in present day, 80 years after Dorothy Gale supposedly came home. In reality, the magically-ever-youthful Dorothy has stayed in Oz, presiding over a now fascist fairyland with her perfectly manicured iron fist and the help of her henchmen – the Scarecrow, the Tin Man, and the Cowardly Lion. But when another young woman from Kansas is swept up in a tornado and magically dropped into this war-torn Oz, our hero discovers a revolutionary underground of witches and enchanted beings only to learn that she is destined to lead their people in the fight to reclaim Oz from a power-hungry Dorothy’s ruthless clutches. The book will be published by HarperTeen next April, with digital prequel novella, No Place Like Oz, available now. The property originated at James Frey’s book-packaging company Full Fathom Five, with him and Todd Cohen, President of Film and Television, exec producing alongside Armus, Foster and Kring.

Dorothy Must Die, which is yet to be laid off at a studio, is the fourth Wizard Of Oz TV project sold in the past two months. It joins NBC drama Emerald City, a dark reimagining of the classic tale of Oz in the vein of Game Of Thrones from writer Matthew Arnold, CBS’ Dorothy, a medical soap inspired by the characters and themes from The Wizard Of Oz, and Syfy’s miniseries Warriors Of Oz from director Timur Bekmambetov, a fantasy-action reimagining of the classic story. The great interest in Wizard Of Oz is not entirely unexpected as the title has been getting a lot of attention in conjunction with the upcoming 75th anniversary of the 1939 feature, which will include a 3D re-release of the Judy Garland starrer. It also comes on the heels of the success of Oz The Great And Powerful earlier this year.

The great interest in Wizard Of Oz properties this year comes on the heels of multiple Sleepy Hollow and Beauty And The Beast projects getting developed the last two development seasons. Both times, one of the projects, CW’s Beauty And The Beast and Fox’s Sleepy Hollow, went to series. In addition to Dorothy Must Die, Kring has another project with a writing duo in the works at the CW, a drama about illegal abilities-enhancing pills in American high schools. Heroes alum Zach Craley and Jarrett Conaway are writing. Kring, who most recently created/exec produced Fox drama Touch, and Armus and Foster, who serve as co-exec producers on Fox’s The Following, are with WME.

Alex Kurtzman, Bob Orci & Peter Lenkov Sell Drama To CBS With Writer Matt Wheeler
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: The auspices behind CBS’ Hawaii Five-0 reboot are reteaming for a new drama series. The eye network has put in development Salvation, a high-concept drama executive produced by Hawaii Five-0 developers/exec producers Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Peter Lenkov and produced by CBS TV Studios. Written by up-and-coming feature writer Matt Wheeler, the project is set in the months leading up to a global, catastrophic event and follows a group of characters’ attempts to deal with the impending destruction of the planet and ensure the survival of humanity. Kurtzman, Orci, Lenkov and Heather Kadin are executive producing, with Wheeler co-exec producing.

This marks the first sale for Kurtzman and Orci’s K/O Paper Products under a deal with CBS TV Studios the company inked in July. Under their previous pact at 20th TV, K/O are producing Fox’s upcoming fall drama series Sleepy Hollow. Lenkov, who has been running Hawaii Five-0 since its 2010 launch, also is under an overall deal at CBS Studios. Wheeler, repped by Management 360 and Verve, penned the script Snatchback for Voltage with Atlas producing and Ross Katz attached to direct. He recently wrote Butcher’s Boy for Sony with Matt Tolmach producing, and is writing the action thriller Splinter for Wayfare Entertainment. Kurtzman, Orci and Lenkov are with CAA.

NBC Nabs Comedy From J.J. Philbin & Jason Katims With Production Commitment
By NELLIE ANDREEVA

EXCLUSIVE: On the heels of the success last season of their comedy project About A Boy, which went to series at NBC, Jason Katims and his True Jack Prods. are back in half-hour development with another high-profile project at NBC. The network has handed a pilot production commitment to Former Fat Girl, from Universal TV where True Jack is based. Written by J.J. Philbin (New Girl), the single-camera comedy is loosely inspired by 10 Lessons from a Former Fat Girl, a nonfiction book by former Biggest Loser contestant Amy Parham, which True Jack optioned earlier this year. It is a comedic “adult coming-of-age” story of a formerly obese thirtysomething woman who has just recently shed the weight and is now experiencing life and relationships from her very unique perspective. Philbin is executive producing with True Jack’s Katims and Michelle Lee.

This is the second single-camera comedy project about a formerly fat protagonist to land a pilot production commitment this season. Last month, Fox bought Fattrick, from writers Nahnatchka Khan and Corey Nickerson and directors Nat Faxon and Jim Rash, about a handsome thirtysomething Patrick who was a ridiculed 10-year-old chubster. By then, Former Fat Girl had been well in the works, with the book identified by Katims and Lee last year and Philbin bought in as a writer in early summer. Having multiple projects in the same milieu the same development season is not unusual, with two Beauty And The Beast and Sleepy Hollow dramas developed the past couple of years, as well as two assistants pilots last year and two Wizard Of Oz dramas this season. This is CAA-repped True Jack’s second project in the works for next season, along with a Sarah Watson legal romantic comedy at ABC. Philbin is with UTA.

I don't know if turning the beloved heroes from Oz into villains will work. I'll check it out though.

Do you know how many people would boycott that? It sounds like some horrible creepypasta.

lol "boycott". :o

The only people that legitimately boycott are the borderline hate groups. Otherwise the "boycott" will consist of people wetting themselves for a few weeks on twitter and being there on premiere night anyway.

Yeah, I forgot those don't work.

Yeah, I mean it seems like a bad idea. I would at least watch the first episode though.

In the end even Dorothy has had to go heel to get over with the youngins.

I think you guys are being a little precious about the material. :o

It's not like they're rewriting the bible here...

No, that's what Aronofsky is doing.

LOL

When I say it's a bad idea I don't really mean the show will be bad. I mean that I see a lot of people not responding well to it. Almost any concept can work as long as you have the right pieces in place. If they don't if's going to be nothing but crying from viewers and critics. I mean everyone wants to doom Sleepy Hallow and it's nowhere near as popular as the world of Oz.

None of the Oz pilots could actually make it except for the one on SyFy simply because of the bigger competition at the networks.

I think the CBS one is a pretty clear case of "this **** is going NOWHERE". There's nothing that could make me more shocked than seeing that one picked up.

Syfy's is probably a shoo-in. They've already done a bunch of these types of things with Tin Man and Alice, so why not?

The other two... maybe. Then again, NBC tried out a Wonderland thing this past season, and they couldn't even do a pilot, and if The CW did theirs, in an odd way, it would actually be the most straightfoward fairy tale/fantasy thing they've done between Beauty and the Beast and that ridiculous sounding Wunderland project that went nowhere.

Watch ABC trump them all and come out with Once Upon A Time In Oz fall 2014. :awesome:

Well, they are coming out with their Wonderland spinoff.

I agree. And the funny thing is, if you look up the plots for all the Wonderland shows they were going to do, NBC's Wonderland thing sounds almost exactly like the CW's Oz show, just switch around the various names:

Wonderland is set years after the events in the book and centers on Alice and a new character, Clara. Seven years ago, Clara’s life took an unexplained turn for the worse, and a mysterious stranger tells her there may be an explanation after all… an explanation that lies in the fantastical world of Wonderland. To revive her dreams and get her life back on track, Clara must wage war against Wonderland’s reigning Queen, the woman we once knew as Alice.

Thursdays on NBC are going to be strange.

I will be watching the final episodes of 30 Rock and The Office
