Cannonball Run remake

I'd say especially so in that case.

All I can say is they better find a way to use this:

Going thru my mind again....with some current stars

CANNONBALL RUN [1981]

Burt Reynolds [J.J. McLure] now............> Bradley Cooper or Henry Cavill
Dom DeLuise [Victor] now....................> Jonah Hill
Farrah Fawcett [Pamela] now ..............> Margot Robbie
Dean Martin [Jamie Blake] now............> George Clooney or Robert Downey Jr
Sammy Davis Jr [Fenderbaum] now.......> Kevin Hart
Jack Elam [Dr. Nikolas Van Helsing] now.>John C Reilly
Terry Bradshaw [Cowboy/Hillbilly] now....> Bret Favre
George Furth [A.F. Foyt] now.................> Steve Jesse Eisenberg

I'm usually against remakes, but I honestly wouldn't mind seeing this one. I love the original, but a remake could be fun.

Just please God no to all the cars being GM's new line up. Part of what made the original work was the fact that everyone was driving different makes and models of cars. Like in the sequel, when Tony Danza was driving a limo with an orangatang cheufer. And Burt Reynolds and Dom Deluise were driving an ambulance. That was great.

Expect all the 2017 GM cars, baby.

I'm sorry but that's just stupid. There should be Ferraris and Lamborginis, Mustangs and Empalas, vans and monster trucks. Variety is the spice of life, and I want my Cannonball Run to be SPICY!

But where is the new Roger Moore?

Wasn't Roger Moore also too obvious back then? He was in the middle of his Bond era.

The obivious choice for a "Bond" type character in a CannonBall Run remake should be Pierce Brosnan. I definitely feel he can pull off a comedic role.

that would actually be funny :hehe:

Throw in some Arnold & Vin Diesel with The Rock along for the ride.

Hope they don't replace the Rat Pack from the original with rappers, which they probably would.

Well he has pulled off comedic roles in the past (Remington Steele, Mrs. Doubtfire) so he's definitely a good choice.

.@wbpictures has acquired the rights to the CannonballRun franchise http://deadline.com/2016/03/cannonball-run-etan-cohen-directing-cannonball-revival-of-80s-films-1201720830/ …

Warner Bros has acquired the rights to the Cannonball Run franchise and set Tropic Thunder scribe Etan J. Cohen to write and direct Cannonball. Andre Morgan and Alan Gasmer (Vikings) are producing. The studio isn’t calling this a remake, but rather a relaunch of a film based on the famous coast to coast ‘Cannonball sea to shining sea memorial trophy race’ that was captured in three Hal Needham-directed films that starred Burt Reynolds, Frank Sinatra, Roger Moore, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr and Dom DeLuise atop a whole ensemble of 80s stars. They played roles in the reenactment of an illegal cross country race where the participants were not above playing dirty tricks on one another.

The new version is being spearheaded by producer Andre Morgan, who has been making movies at Warner Bros since Enter the Dragon in 1973 (that film also was backed by Golden Harvest, which orchestrated the Cannonball Run films). Warner Bros acquired all sequel and remake rights to the franchise from original copyright owners Brock Yates, the Hal Needham Estate and Fortune Star LTD. Albert S. Ruddy and Raymond Chow are the exec producers. The first film was released by Fox; Warner Bros released the sequel and Orion released the third film, which starred John Candy, Donna Dixon, Eugene Levy and Brooke shields. The original films and the legend of the original races they were based on have generated international interested; people are still running their own time lapse races to beat the records established in the original five races.

I guess this isn't one of those classics that would be deemed blasphemy if it was remade, huh?

Not really. It's a simple concept and a lot of the charm came from the big celebrity crossover. I don't think you need to match up modern actor's with older parts hence no need for another Bond guy.

Might be fun to see Ben Affleck and Matt Damon in one car, Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau in another, Amy Poehler and Tina Fey.....

Now I want to see a live action Wacky Races? :oldrazz:

Although CBRun might as well have been the live action version.

I love those movies. Also so happy you mentioned Wacky Races. That was my childhood right there. They better do this movie right.

It wouldn't be the same if they didn't include the title song at some point in the movie.

We need Owen Wilson and Jackie Chan VS Chris Tucker and Kevin Hart.

Jackie Chan would be awesome because he was in the original and the first sequel. A reference to that could be hilarious.
