Quote from THE GUARD: “Nope. Protection isn't a good reason either, as he fell three stories in the BEGINS suit on fire and was just fine.”
The reason he survived that fall was because of the PROTECTION provided by the BB Nomex survival suit. Regarding the DK suit, I will go back to the Batpod wipe-out example: Would you rather spill out on a motorcycle with or without the protection provided by the segments of leg armor? I would definitely prefer having armor segments scraped across the pavement versus my thigh, hip, or kneecap.
Quote from THE GUARD: “I considered the ventilation aspect months ago, but it's just not a valid reason. He's likely wearing undergarmets, and wearing that black mesh itself will not exactly be "cooling" once there's armor pieces on top of it. Bottom line, he's going to sweat regardless.”
I disagree. True, you cannot COMPLETELY prevent perspiration. However, a mesh that breathes with segments of armor on top, and ventilation gaps inbetween, will be cooler overall versus one solid slab of armor that wraps completely around the leg without any "air gutters". The lower half of the body can be harmed by heat and excess sweat. Athletes often suffer from rashes on their feet, thighs and groin. It does not hurt to put effort into minimizing the heat and perspiration in those areas.
Quote from THE GUARD: “Most of your heat is lost/gained through the head and the neck. That's probably why the neckpiece has "mesh" to it, because they put a lot of rubber around his neck once again, and those rubber cowls get HOT because of the air that gets trapped in the upper part of the helmet and the neckpieces.”
If the mesh effectively ventilates heat from the neck, why wouldn't it from the rest of the body? It must be tough for pro-football players who have to wear huge helmets while being extremely active in midday sun, (and to reinforce my points above, even they wear hip, thigh and knee pads…connected with a fabric layer for a combined effect of protection and ventilation). Interestingly enough, the more I think about football gear, the more the DK suit makes sense. Check this out:

Quote from THE GUARD: “I will say that the suit looks much better when you can't see it. Heh.”
Again, I disagree. Bats is well-lit here…and looks damn formidable:
