i think that was awesome

I never even thought about that mesh being for ventilation
brilliant!

Ventilation is a new one. I certainly hope the decision wasn't made for an aesthetic appeal, because it's woeful. If it were purely for protective purposes, the shaping would contour to the thigh better. I just hope some usefulness of the design is alluded to the film; improved stuntwork, greater demonstration of flexibility, something.

Really? It was a good post, and I agree, but you all never thought the mesh was there to provide a bit more air access to the legs/torso of the wearer ie. ventilation?

Honestly, I just concentrated on how ridiculous I thought it looked. :o

I assumed something done for the wearer's comfort would have been less obvious. The mesh I can understand, but the piecemeal look of the plating struck me as too 'inventive' to play out that way.

well thats what i mentioned...protective and suitable at once...comfortable to kicks some ass, or ride a batpod;-)...just like motorcycle wear...
of curse it aint very stylish all the time...but for the reason at al still good looking...
glad were back on topic....
ventilation ...
thats just great;-)
and if i would have been sarcastic i would have written it in green ...
but im serious...
its conceptional and makes sense, even if its looking weird...its good looking for what its ment to be...if it would be in one piece(talking bout the legs) he wouldnt be able to move very good, so ....its very plausible for what they try to achieve and not for what we wanna see

Thoughts on the new suit pic at the official site?

I don't know why they insist on not lighting the suit like this for the film. It looks so much better in jet black, and "hidden" by the surroundings. Burton did it with relative ease.

well it cant be dark all the time;-)
im sure the lighting will be good....

About those legs: I too have wondered about the logic behind the “road-maps”. The most obvious reason behind that choice to me is that it combines protection with ventilation.

"Ventilation" is the first theoretically plausible and halfway-decent explanation for the leg business. That said, it doesn't necessitate being ugly nonsense and, frankly, I'd rather the actor be a little warmer than have an ugly suit.

Nope. Protection isn't a good reason either, as he fell three stories in the BEGINS suit on fire and was just fine.

I considered the ventilation aspect months ago, but it's just not a valid reason. He's likely wearing undergarmets, and wearing that black mesh itself will not exactly be "cooling" once there's armor pieces on top of it. Bottom line, he's going to sweat regardless.

Most of your heat is lost/gained through the head and the neck. That's probably why the neckpiece has "mesh" to it, because they put a lot of rubber around his neck once again, and those rubber cowls get HOT because of the air that gets trapped in the upper part of the helmet and the neckpieces.

I will say that the suit looks much better when you can't see it. Heh.

I love the angle of the shot, also the lighting works perfect

About those legs: I too have wondered about the logic behind the “road-maps”. The most obvious reason behind that choice to me is that it combines protection with ventilation. I can imagine how hot those suits must be, (both for fictitious Batman and the real-life actors). My guess is that the mesh under-suit allows the skin to “breathe” while the added armor segments on top do just what they are intended to: protect. Yes, they are small segment of protction, not full sections of knight-like armor, but if I was going to wipe-out on a Bat-Pod, I would prefer SOME protection as opposed to nothing at all. So that is my best “read” on their choice for the legs. What do you think?

So simple, obvious even, yet it never occured to me. Good thinking.

Regardless of sweating, ventilation would still make him cooler, even if it were by just a little bit. The fact that he receives air vs. not receiving air has to count for something. If you're legs are going to sweat and get hot no matter what, wouldn't you prefer that extra hint of cool air, provided by ventilation, opposed to no air at all?

However, as you said, if he is wearing that extra piece of armor underneath the mesh then there would be very little air coming through. I guess it will all come down to how they explain it in the film.

Meh.

Of course I'd prefer it (if the design wasn't awful), but it wouldn't matter. It counts for something, but the effect is neglible, because until you're out of the suit, you cannot really tell the difference, mostly because the cowl itself is just...they're just stifling. If they were smart, they'd find a way to ventilate those (the ears, I'd think). It's not generally your extremities that "feel" the heat, because they're usually contained pretty tightly in something (mesh, spandex, lycra, rubber, which is part of what makes them sweat to begin with). It's your head and neck.

ok as if not only for ventilation its suerly more movable...btw that pic is superb......

Fair enough. I guess there will never be a batsuit that could actually keep him from getting too hot, because if one were to work as hard as bats does even in a light fabric suit, they'd still build up a major sweat.

Having said that, I seriously think Nolan needs to consider putting air conditioning into the suit in third film. Neck mobility AND cooling, what more could a Batman want? :brucebat:

Apparently they already have some kind of "cooling tubes" inside the thing. But it's going to be hot, regardless.

Yeah and Bale did say this one was a good deal cooler in the Today show bit. Hopefully they will do a good job explaining the changes on the DVD extras. I want only minor explanation in the film. I need a new suit from the TV spot would be good enough for me.

These "tubes" were for Bale though right? It's not like they were added as something to be touched upon in the film though, correct?

If the neck was a little bit thicker I would LOVE it!!!!

But so far this is my favorite shot of the suit. Great stuff

The suit is really growing on me, I can see how it makes the BB suit look a bit dated at least from a tecnological stand point. But good Lord, those legs are so awful. I just hope Batman is sprinting and as agile as Spidey, in order to accomidate for those atrocities.

I know I will probably get some heat for this but everyone will have to excuse me here. I like the design of the suit it, I never really noticed that the legs of his suit looked like a road map as it were lol. Christian Bale just looks hot (pardon the pun) in this suit. I am a female I can't help it.

I wonder if that's how it will look in the movie... with a green filter...
