I still don't get why this whole Winter Soldier thing is popular. I hated the story, personally.

It makes Bucky, who I don't really like, into a cooler character, and a new villain, at first, and I love villains. That's what I like about it at least.

BTW since we're on the topic I hate what they did with Jason Todd, him being dead was such strong story, makes the Robin role deadly, The Joker a more personal villain, and brings Batman more torment, but now it's ruined.

As did the whole Goblin babies story ruined a classic Spider-Man story...and JMS entire run for that matter! GOD I HATE NEW MARVEL COMICS (hence why I boycott their new stuff now)!!! Though DC is not that much better, either.

Umm, sorry. Had to vent there. Anyways, the Winter Soldier story is something I think Marvel may do with a Cap 2 since many fans seem high on it. I am just not on that list. I see it as a poor excuse to ressurect another characters to sell more comics. The story felt like a sales upper, and that is a problem for me. Perhaps a filmmaker could do more with it.

yeah I would like Bucky in the movie but more like the ultimate and Winter Solider Bucky mixed together

I say Keep The 40's Bucky in there, just update the Costume a bit more.

If they're going to have Bucky alive in the modern day, it should be as Winter Soldier. Otherwise, he should have just died in the war. All in all, Cap needs to think he died in the war. Bucky still being around as an old guy worked in Ultimates, but I'd prefer Cap looking to avenge his old war buddy.

James Buchanon Barnes should definitely make an appearance. Bucky would be a harder sell but I could see it working. What I would really like to see is Captain America saving the day, getting frozen, and then inspiring his fellow soldiers specifically Barnes and James Montgomery Fallsworth to become Bucky and Union Jack spawning the masked hero trend that the shared film universe seems to be building.

I don't even know how that would work. Like, he's Steve's photographer and buddy, then he loses an arm and becomes a Russian super-assassin, then marries Cap's girlfriend and becomes a senior citizen?

I don't see the name Bucky being hard to work in. I know a lot of people who have nick names that come from mispronunciations or shortenings of their real name. Bucky's not a super hero code name. It's just what people call him.

How about this....you have Bucky, being the kickass underage (16-17) highly trained solider that he was ala the Brubaker retcon, but he's an unofficial sidekick. Just a regular soldiers uniform, part of a small group of soldiers that Cap usually works with. Seeing as Nick Fury will be more Ultimate Nick than 616 Nick, you can include a few of his Howling Commandos if you want. No real character development needed, just a simple cameo would be nice for those guys, but as far as Buck, play him up as a highly capable kid who Cap takes under his wing, and of course, he "dies" at the end alongside Cap. And of course, comes back in a later sequel as the Winter Soldier. It's really one of the all time best Cap stories ever written, and it really needs to adapted. Maybe for a third film after Avengers.

Like this?

Personally my favourite Captain America look, with the exception of the circular shield, which I would rather have.

I wouldn't mind seeing Bucky given similar treatment as well.
Actually, I'm starting to like the idea of taking Cap's Ultimate prologue uniform and doing a Bucky version of that.

I was using Bucky to refer to his masked alias. Obviously I wasnt clear. I meant they should definitely have Bucky the soldier, Bucky the sidekick might be a harder sell. I didnt mean no "Bucky"

Bucky should have the same role as in the Ultimates

And I hope they do go with that Cap soldier look from the ultimates as well

Captain America Film Will Be a Period Piece Plus McConaughey is Not Involved! Written by Stephanie Sanchez Wednesday, 21 May 2008

IESB's Robert Sanchez spoke with Marvel big wig Kevin Feige today about the new Avengers film they have planned starring Captain America!
After the huge success of IRON MAN, Marvel announced a few films on their horizon including The First Avenger: Captain America set to debut in 2011. Feige gave us a few updates about the film!
IESB asked Feige if the Captain America film would be a period piece. He confirmed yes, the story will take place during World War II, just like the comic book origin story. He says they plan to remain very faithful to the source material and completely traditional.
Feige also confirmed that it was definitely the Captain America shield that was seen in IRON MAN on Tony Stark's work-station as he's removing his suit for the first time. It's just an Easter Egg and probably won't have anything to do with the Capt. America story.
What about that casting rumor making its way around the web that Matthew McConaughey would be taking on the role? Nope, Feige says that's absolutely false. Thanks to Kevin Feige for the intel!

some how this tells me that we will see bucky in the movie and to all the people that say that people will compare him to robin i say they will at first and they will see the movie and see that they were wrong and that the two have almost nothing in common.

Well, I think that his image back home should be that of the side kick. For the sake of propaganda, the war department wants Cap to look like a perfect super hero to the average American citizen, so it would make perfect sense to play up him most skilled and most regular back up as his "boy side kick." But in the field, Bucky should be a badass soldier who got as good as he did to be respected despite being the youngest among his comrades.

Bucky should be Cap's partner who dies in WW2, setting up the modern-age Rick Jones partnership which would then lead into the Teen Brigade (which I assume would be some kind of online community rather than ham-radio enthusiasts) and subsequently, the formation of the Avengers.

If Rick Jones wasn't in the Hulk, theres no point in bringing him in now. Save him for a Captain Mar-Vell movie.

Id have him in it but more like the role he had in Ultimate Avengers where he's a photographer but dont have him in a silly mask n that.

If I were writing, and it was going the same route as Zack Penn (WWII war movie) I'd give Cap a squad to command. I mean c'mon; A) How do you think he should get the name CAPTAIN America, and B) You can't have Cap kickin ass all by his lonesome for 2 hrs. So I'd make Bucky a private and the runt of the group who idolizes Cap, but because of Cap's inspiration, takes courage and initiative in combat, during the middle of the movie, when the other men can't. Cap sees this, begins to respect Bucky. At the end of the movie, they are stopping the V2 rocket or whatever prototype weapon they decide to write in; and it takes off. They must disarm it. Cap jumps on the rocket; Bucky attempts to jump on, makes it but is losing grip. Cap sees this, but has to make a choice between the man and the mission....

I liked what they did in the Ultimates. Have Bucky be his best friend during WWII, and when Cap is reawaken, we will have a scene where Steve visits a very old Bucky. I think that has more emotional impact than that stupid Winter Soldier story.

Agreed. Having Bucky old and married to Cap's former flame could be a heart wrenching scene.
