Endgame Captain America/Steve Rogers - Chris Evans

I wasn't really a Cap fan until TWS, since then I've been on team Cap.

In Endgame
he gets probably some of the greatest ever superhero moments, when he fights Thanos with Mjolnir and his shield, when he stares down Thanos' entire army, " Avengers ASSEMBLE! " and of course kicking his own ass" . He deserves the ending that he gets. Cap reaches new heights of awesome in this film.

BTW Does anyone realise that Old Cap at the end is probably 160+ years old, he's 100 at the time of IW ( yes, due to 70 years in the ice) and if he goes back to the 1950s and lives until 2019 then he's lived a really long long time
Haha, totally agreed and good point.

Solid performance by Evans for sure. As far as Cap goes

Loved he had all kinds of amazing moments in this movie, but when he lifted Mjolir daaaarn, the audience just went insane lol. What a moment! I wasnt a huge fan of the Peggy arc, and Bucky kinda always annoys me lol, but these don't take anything away from the Captain America arc for me.Bittersweet ending, specially after the gut punch of Tony. I will miss the fallen heroes terribly :(. As amazing as the other ones are, the original 6 hold a special place in my heart

Evans did a great job here. My favorite parts were
the Cap vs Cap scene, which was incredible; the "Hail Hydra" moment, which sent shivers up my spine; him spotting Peggy through the window, which was so sad; and him wielding Mjolnir, which was awesome. I wish, maybe, that they had had him speak some words at Tony's funeral (gods, I can't believe I'm saying those words!), but I was good with it, and the conclusion to his story was beautiful and really really sad.

The "Cap treatment" is the reason I can overlook all other flaws of the movie...
The moment he holds some tools :-
).

Cap got some of the best moments in this movie.
I don't like how they ended his arc, but I'm glad he's happy. The best shot of the movie was when Cap faced Thanos and his army. It was perfect and iconic.
.

Cap has always been my anchor, my go to character in these movies since the beginning. God, I remember the day they cast Evans in the role I was so happy because at the time Chris Evans was such a likeable character actor that hadnt broken out yet or found his niche, but I always enjoyed his presence in the movies he was in.

Everyone loves RDJ and he will probably be the one from this movie that gets the most accolades but ladies and gents we gotta give it up for Chris because he IS CAPTAIN AMERICA. And what they did with him in this movie, i couldnt have asked for more and Evans and gave Downey a run for his money.

Can you imagine
Cap seeing Peggy's baby niece thinking, "yea I made out with her in the future" :yuk:

Cap finally gets his moment to shine in an avengers movie.

For me :
1)Ironman & Hulk were MVP in A1
2)Ironman & Vision were MVP in A2
3)Thor & Strange were MVP in A3
4)Cap was MVP in A4

What's the word on

Old Cap being there at the end if that contradicts the rule in this film about changing the past doesn't affect the present -- it just branches a new timeline? I don't buy the whole "he was married to her all this time, etc". Because he obviously went back and changed THAT timeline but it doesn't make sense as to how we see Old Cap at the end when we should be seeing present-day Cap..?

Evans has created a cinematic legacy for himself as Captain America, much like Christopher Reeve before him and he has brought this honest true blue hero to life successfully in these most cynical of times, and in Endgame he shines, both in the character moments with Tony and Nat, to his determination to try and change what Thanos did, to his leadership in the final battle.

The one on one fight between Cap and Thanos is one of the best the MCU has produced and my audience were electric when he
summoned Mjolnir, there was an audible gasp.
I also loved that he
ended up getting his life with Peggy, the old romantic in me dug that. :D

This is an awesome piece of art.

I'm totally with you on the second point. I just re-watched the First Avenger and...
Peggy really was the love of his life. The sparks shooting off of Chris and Hayley in their scenes together were even bigger than I remember them. It just felt so right seeing them again. She was always the reason he could never move on.

My God, I'm still getting misty eyed thinking about the completion of Steve's arc. Timeline questions be damned, that was just beautiful. As someone who thought that they would kill off Cap (and not Tony), I was very moved that he finally got a happy ending with the love of his life.

Yeah...on first viewing I thought Tony got the much better sign off but upon repeated viewings that Avengers Assemble moment has carved Evans a cinematic legacy for life. Goosebumps.

RDJ deserves his All Time Greatest status after this but you know what? He did great at a much easier job. Let's be honest, but that's the truth. What Evans has done with Captain America since first taking the role was not easy. The character Evans was entrusted to play doesn't lend itself to the flourishes, visual, verbal and otherwise that RDJ had at his disposal, just from his own innate ticks and mannerisms on top of the writing of the character of Tony Stark as compared to what Evans had to do.

And yet, slowly but surely Captain America became a powerful presence and force in the MCU and it did this old comic fan's heart good. I remember working at the comic book shop across the road from the high school I went to after my parents and I moved to rural Pennsylvania in the early 90's. Now of course everyone CLAIMS to be a Marvel fan from back in the day. Uh-uh... I was there. I remember what was selling and what wasn't back in the day and sorry, while I still bought titles like Avengers, Thor and Captain America especially during that period, most everyone else when they mean they were "Marvel Fans" at that time really meant they were X-Men, Punisher, Wolverine, Venom, Spider-Man fans. Characters like Steve Rogers were passe. And because of that when they Marvel wanted to raise funds by selling off film rights, Cap was barely thought of. And... I'm grateful for that now.

When the MCU started with RDJ as Tony Stark I had to wonder who would play the likes of Cap against him. Even more... How would they treat this character in a modern setting? How would the audience react if he was presented in the traditional way he was in the comics? Even if the actor was good would the studio give Cap the place of primacy as the leader of the team and the inspiration to so many of the other heroes of the Marvel stable? Then I learned Evans was cast and let's all be honest... That was a gamble. Actually a much bigger gamble than RDJ. Downey was always a powerhouse talent and if I'm honest, I was one of those that knew they hit the nail on the head with the Stark casting as soon as I heard he was up for it. Evans' filmography was nowhere near as inspiring. But Evan surprised the world and did so with simply doing the work of realizing this character and being protective of him. There's not been a false note, and as I said, he's not got the crutch of being the "hip/cool" guy. Yet from the moment we met skinny Steve he's wrapped us as the audience around his finger. I will ALWAYS have strong opinions on how about half of the output of Marvel Studios, and I would include the film that gave us Evans' Steve Rogers, The First Avenger, as being too often safe, mediocre four quadrant pablum. Sorry, but too often they are working a formula and they are calculating every single thing to the point of serviceable if sterile "fun" entertainment. Yet even in something like TFA Evans shone bright. And he kept being that bright spot as time went on. Building up from TWS and CW he's executed his performance of the material given him to near perfection. And it's harder to work the subtle shades he's been given to work with. Dutiful, dependable, but also an unstoppable force in his own right... Evans' Cap has led the way and in Endgame they gave me the Cap ripped from the comics who indeed, against all odds, is always the last man standing against evil.... And when the chips are down and even his own prowess and determination aren't enough, his even greater strength gets put on display... The strength to choose to walk the honorable path, the righeous path, and by doing so inspire others to rally to his side. The payoff here was grand.

I wish Evans the best in any future role he chooses to play and we should thank him for being such a great custodian of this character. Perhaps we'll see him in the red, white, and blues again. Perhaps not. But for a bright shining moment one of the greatest old school super heroes was given his due and was shown to be as bad ass as any anti-hero out there, while still having the manners to tell us all to watch our language. That's priceless.

Steve has become my favorite character in the MCU and I think this was the perfect send-off for him. The final scene got me really good, even more than Tony's death. He is rewarded with the life he never got to have. And then of course you have him wielding Mjolnir and "Avenger's assemble". It's everything you'd want for the character.

Also "Hail Hydra". :funny:

@Spider-Fan well you were right all alone. Glad for you. It’s must have been a great ending for a Cap fan.

HOLD THE PHONE PEOPLE, IS ANYONE TALKING ABOUT......
Steve and Peggy's kids ! Would they have Steve's super Soldier traits ? Is there potential there for stories based on the children of Captain America ?????

(sorry for the capital letters but my brain was literally screaming this)

As much as I loved this film... Yeah it's aspects like this here that just make me take pause in my love because there are just TOO many ramifications in terms of how they chose to wrap this all up that are either half assed in explanation, too big to be ignored implications that I am 99% sure will never be brought up or stuff like this which... I'm sorry, I love Steve and want him to be happy but this is too big to just let go... Which is why it probably shouldn't have been written that way to begin with.

that might be a bold statement but i really think after watchin this movie
captain america is the greateast superhero off all time

usually its superman the goat, but this cap was extraordinary in the battle ..& since we know DC will never put superman against darkseid..he got this..

Yeah, my audience went crazy at that part. Hopefully I get that again now (showing starts in about an hour and a half) but maybe not as it’s early afternoon and probably packed with families.

If not power wise I've always seen Captain America as Marvel's Superman morally. The hero who inspires others and Evans, for the first time since Chris Reeve's Superman in the late 70s, has given us an acute portrayal of what a thoroughly decent and HEROIC superhero looks like in cynical times.

I never thought it was possible but they (Feige, Evans, The Russos, the writing team etc) did it.....they legitimately made Captain America a beloved superhero worldwide in the 2010s and yes I'll say it again....it makes me mad to think how Snyder and WB, IMO, screwed up Superman.

I can see why some might not be happy with Cap's ending.
I know that some fans aren't happy with Cap's ending as it made him actually selfish and that it was out of character. But for me, I was completely satisfied by it. In previous MCU movies (particulary Winter Solider) it was hinted by Cap and other characters that Steve being a soldier was the only life that he really knew, that he had regrets that he didn't experience the normal life once the Second World War had ended. So him going back into time and getting together with Peggy made sense as he was probably effected by the death of Tony Stark but he saw that Tony was happy when he had family so I guess he wanted to experience that with the love his life.

I thought Chris Evans (and RDJ) performance in this movie actually elevated this movie and I never thought that Captain America would actually be my favorite hero in the entire MCU so I'm definitely going to miss his presence in the MCU.

Cap weilding mjolnir was amazing and he such a badass when he used it. Thor screaming "I KNEW IT!" was my exact reaction on seeing Cap with mjolnir
