Wonder Woman's costume is different because her character is different. She's an Amazon warrior princess. Carol Danvers is a respected US Air Force officer. Her wearing a stripperiffic costume like Wonder Woman is as out of place as Jim Rhodes dressing up like Conan the Barbarian.
Marvel are probably using Captain Marvel though for trademark reasons to ensure that that name is continually in use, and perhaps also to stick it to DC/WB with their Shazam film.
Again, this is also about cultivating a new audience who is not really as acquainted Ms. Marvel. Male viewers would delight in a franchise led by an intelligent, sexy and powerful superheroine for once.
hey guys! thanks for the comments and critiques!
I couldn't help but give my girl Katee her own poster. She's my pick for the role!

I was wondering what everyone else's thoughts were in regards to the logistics of the costume. Ya know, all the Avengers have a thing with their costume - Cap just puts his on like a uniform the old-fashioned way, Tony has all sorts of clever devices that assemble his around him like a suit of armor, Thor "summons" his from the sky, and Banner, well...he Hulks out and loses all but his pants.
So how should it work for Carol? In the current comics, she just conjures it at will, without so much as a hand motion, and the molecular structure of the suit transforms accordingly. But I feel like on film this would fall a bit flat without some kind of visual anchor for it. My thought for such an anchor is the starburst - like, have the starburst be a Kree "medallion" or pendant type of thing (like a symbol of rank) that "stores" Mar-Vell's uniform, perhaps locked into each Kree soldier's individual DNA so only that soldier can activate it at will. When he wants to suit up, he can just hold it up to his chest and the uniform then forms around it (and the wearer's body), and he can control its appearance/molecular structure at will like in the comics. Of course, as Mar-Vell is dying, he can then pass the starburst medallion on to Carol, which she can use because his DNA melded with hers. I just feel like the starburst would be a good source for the uniform because it's a small enough item that they can always carry with them wherever they go.
Anybody else have ideas for how the uniform/costume/armor could work?

Mask or no mask? BTW, does she only wear the mask part when she's in space?
But how many of those heroes are actually *costumed* -- as opposed to wearing normal civies (Hulk pants, SW), a customized tactical outfit (BW, Hawkeye, Falcon, Mockingbird), advanced cybernetics (IM, Deathlock, Vision), or their regular alien clothing (Thor).Carol will be roughly their 30th MCU Superhero we're introduced to. I'm not sure she needs a plot reason to on a costume. She would've seen the battle of New York on TV, and would be aware of the Avengers. In a world with costumed Superheroes, doning a costume to fight crime when you gain powers becomes less of a stretch.
I'm hoping the costume will be an amalgam (color- and design-wise) of all the past costumes, not just a carbon copy of the Marvel Now! costume.
I'm hoping for an inversion of the marvel now costume, which would make the coloring Mar-Vell's coloring.
I like the domino mask. They could execute it with some sort of high-tech version (e.g. augmented reality glasses).
I like it too but people pitched hissy fits whenever you'd mention Bucky wearing one so I don't expect that to be any different w/Carol.
I also like the Mar-Vell colors/starburst symbol better than the current outfit. But I like the collar, boots, etc on the current suit way better than just straight tights.
