Captain Marvel Captain Marvel costume thread

the thing with short hair though is it works differently for different face shapes, more angular faces take it better

Theron could rock the hell out of it, as we've seen, so could Chastain probably
Whereas I think Blunt might look kind of awful with short hair

they better keep her hair long and not go with the butch cut

Well then I guess I'm in the minority regarding the hair because I love the short cut. I think it really helps giving her a unique look compared to the other superheroines. Heck, I'd even be fine with the mohawk. Let's give Storm some competition.

About the outfit, just give me the live-action rendition of this one. No randomly added pockets, belt, stripes etc. Just this one in all its glorious simplicity. I realize it's probably never going to happen, but you know, at least I'm allowed to hope.

Also, Anka's art rules.

I don't have strong feelings on it (I do like Anka's art overall, though), but I tend to side with this view because the alternate view is frankly insulting. She's described as "butch," "manly," or "like a little boy." For one, plenty of women have short hair. Second, her features are pretty feminine (when you look at her not wearing her costume). Third, I hate how the emphasis is on her physical appearance anyway at the expense of everything else.

I've no problem with the short hair in theory, but I did have a problem with their reasoning for doing it. They said they did it because she's a military woman and that's the hair a military woman would have. Coming from a military family, that just didn't sit well with me, as it feeds into a now well-worn cliche that military women have to sacrifice their femininity in order to be taken seriously among their peers, which is COMPLETELY untrue. The many, MANY military women I've known in my life have been indistinguishable from any other woman when out of uniform, and for the record, they've all had long hair, worn in a bun while on duty - none of them felt the need to chop their hair off to be badasses or whatever. As such, I just kind of resent the short hair for the cliche it represents.

it depends on the artist but too often she does look butch and very manish

The only good thing her current short hair look has done for her is give her a consistent look bc with the last costume her hair would go from short to long to whatever depending on who drew her. She at least has a standardized look across the board

This makes me cringe. Who cares if a girl has short hair, even if it looks "butch"? Masculine women and feminine men exist (not in CBMs apparently).

bc she never used to be like that until recently so the change is awkward.

I don’t have a problem with Carol’s having short hair I don't think that it makes her look butch or mannish. Speaking for myself I haven’t had any trouble telling she was a woman in Captain Marvel or the ultimate’s, A Force or in the first five issues of Spider woman that she’s appeared in.

Pretty much this. It's kind of like the comics. I don't like Carol's hair in her own book, but it looks better in The Ultimates.

Well, you sure made a good argument against the short hair, lol.
BUT!, I feel that, as long as in the movie there are no implications of the haircut being anything more than a pure aesthetic choice on her part, it could still work fine. Imho, of course.

And yeah, I agree about how dumb the assumption that "feminine =/= badass" is. This is why we needed Janet in the MCU instead of her dull "strong" daughter, but oh well.

Yup. Ya never know until you actually see it on them.

I cringe every time the word "mannish" is used. Y'all know short hair on women isn't anything new and is often considered trendy, right?

Anyway, I like this mock-up.

LOL...the film has been delayed at least 2 times and that doesnt reflect it

I'm not bothered so much about long or short hair as long as it looks good, but I prefer long to be honest.

Personally I'm more concerned about her actual costume. I still see as an eyesore. Both design and colour scheme are like a stab in the eyes. I especially don't want to see that helmet. I'm really interested to see what approach they take with her costume.

I wonder if we could get some concept art this year considering Carol will be cast and Marvel starts shooting for Infinity War this November. Me thinks that the actress will start filming in 2017 to give her time to bulk up for the role.

I think her costume should be some sort of advanced Kree space suit. It should have an alien feel to it to make more unique among the MCU costumes. It shouldn't be a metal suit of armor like Iron Man or bulky teflon tac suit like Captain America. Carol should wear tights so we can finally have a superhero in tights. It only makes sense, especially since Carol flies. :)

I think that's likely.
We already have the title art, next up should be costume concept art, like they did with Black Panther.

Yup. If they do an announcement at SDCC they'll probably release another one-sheet like this.

Guys, I'm now thinking that July will be a BIG month for Caprain Marvel. Marvel will definitely be hyping up Carol at SDCC with her appearance in Civil War II and she will probably make her long awaited debut in the Avengers: Assemble animated series that month. Synergy between comics and movies equals maximum hype for the character. :)

Marvel will definitely announce the actress at SDCC, me thinks.

Well, I guess it's true that one man's trash is another man's treasure because I'm in love with her current costume.
The eye-catching color scheme, the simple yet elegant design (sounds like I'm trying to sell it, lol. Any offers? :o), I think that it has all the element of a classic. In fact, it's so good that I'd easily put it up there with other less recent and more famous iconic superhero costumes.

I agree about the helmet though, it's fugly.

Is Marvel actually gonna be at SDCC this year?

Dunno. I recently visted the SDCC website, but found nothing. Maybe it's too early to know anything about what's going down at Hall H this July. :(

Yeah they won't reveal the info until a week or 2 before the event.

I think it's a safe bet they'll have a presence though, otherwise there would have been an announcement like FOX's.

I hope Carol has a helmet/cowl. There are no female super hereos in the MCU with any kind of headpiece, meanwhile most of the male heroes in Civil War do. Captain Marvel is the most superhero-y female character Marvel has. I really wanna see this:

I don't think many people like the mask. It seems to be pretty unpopular, from what I've gathered.
I can see the merits of the idea but I've gotta admit, the design is just so ugly.
