:-)doh: can't believe I spelled fallacy - and exercise - wrong...Mods, please see it in your very large and buxom hearts to fix - i blame it o my broken hand...anyway....)

We all know the rules of this site. We may argue over some of them, get threads deleted, receive infractions and even get banned for them. Often times, people get infracted and even banned for letting curse words slip through the cracks by way of pictures or videos. Regardless of the person's intent or awareness of the rules, punishment is given because this is a PG site.

I'm curious then, why there is a video posted on this sites front page with several uses of the f word? If you haven't seen it, its a Funny or Die video about Captain Planet. I'd post a link to the SHH news article, but you know I'd get an infraction. If cursing is such a bannable offense, then how does it get posted by the very people who made up the rules? There is a disclaimer about language, but does that really validate the hypocrisy?

lol, I'm not trying to start a fight (I'm not one to attack the mods with pitch forks or any thing). I just found this to be an interesting situation, and am curious to see what others feel about it - especially those who've gotten in trouble for this sort of thing.

Traditionally don't these threads go in the Support area?

Standard responses:

Get over it.

If you don't like it leave.

The Hype is not a democracy.

It's almost like a Choose Your Own Adventure book.

I like that one the best!

Gonna take a stab at this, since, I've got nothing else to do. :meow:

The front page is a news/noteworthy source for all things superhero. The forum is just a place for people to come and discuss what is (or is not) on the front page.

Basically a website = no rules to wrangling news.
Forum = rules because it's people not news that are being wrangled.

I personally, don't see the big deal? Even if someone wanted to make a discussion thread about the Captain Planet video all they have to do is go say "HEY GUIZ! That Cap Planet video on the front page! Thoughts? LOLZ!"
Unless of course, that would mean an infraction for making people go look at the front page... but doesn't SHH want the webtraffic anyway?

:cmad: WHERE?

Some people are overreacting to this (myself, I do it for the lawlz). The logic is, if I post a video with that amount of cursing on here, I would get banned. The truth is, in those type of situations, I've never seen someone get banned for an offense of that nature. I've seen mods warn the poster to take it down or just delete the post but I've never seen mods ban people for it (unless they repeatedly did it).

WHY AM I DEFENDING MODS?!?!?!?!?!

Lesson #1 in law school: Freedom of speech only protects you from the government:o.

Lesson #2 in law school: Follow Mirko's rules or else:argh:

Yeah, posting videos with curse words is not a bannable offence. At most, you may get an infraction. I believe that if you get a certain amount of infractions then you are automatically banned.

Rules are often arbitrary and trying to fight them is even more arbitrary. The front page news is an exception to whatever rules the rest of us peons must follow anyways.

That's what most people don't seem to get. They think it applies everywhere. :o

I must admit as well, I haven't checked the front page of SHH since it was spider-man hype. I've just bookmarked the forums and I consider the forums entirely separate from SHH or CS.

If I had made this thread, Bamfer would have already been in here peeing on my feet and warning me to stop.

I do see that a lot too. The best way to explain it is you are not allowed to wander into someone's house uninvited and scream profanties at them and this is like walking into someone's house and doing just that.

Well, i'm not one that usually rocks the boat (and this thread isn't an attempt to - I'm aware the mods really don't have any say in the matter). I try to stay outta the mods' way. But in this instance, I became very curious as it seemed its a glaring contradiction.

It is a contradiction and also you spelled exercise incorrectly.

yes. i've been infracted numerous times for language. i've been infracted when i self-censored the curse word instead of letting the auto-censor do it for me. i've been infracted when i let the auto-censor do it but the mod didnt like the context of the curse word. these censor rules are pretty ridiculous to begin with, in my opinion. yet alone to come on the site to see that video on the front page. i have no problem with its content, but its highly hypocritical of the site.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! And I'm usually a good spelker!!!!!!!!!

:woot:

I'd ask the mods to fix it, but they'll probably tell me to bugger off, considering the subject of the thread.

Anyway, it's not hypocritical. The front page and the forums are two completely different types of webpages. It's like comparing apples and oranges, vanilla and chocolate, Superman and The Sentinel.

If Excel or Mirko had come skipping in and posted it in a thread, then it would be hypocritical.

I would however like to hear Excel/Mirko's explanation though. :atp:

i dont buy the two seperate entities excuse. its all the same site run. these are the forums for the front page. you'd expect the standards to be the same.

This analogy doesn't work at all because we are invited. The whole point of a website/forum is to get as many people in here clicking ads. In this case they're holding the door open for all of us to register, post, send out links and click on ads on this site. Your analogy is quite terrible to be honest with you.
