You know it's coming. Jor-El will eventually be seen on-screen. The question is, who do you want to play Jor-El?

My choice would be, if he isn't brought back to One Tree Hill, Paul Johansson. He looks like a broader, bulkier Christopher Reeve so he has the House of El look to him by default, and he can act his ass off! He has shown excellent range from being the villian to a sometimes caring person, so he would bring that "caring, but stern" feel that Jor-El needs to have!

Terrence Stamp.

Who cares if he played Zod? Now that he's older, he looks like Jor-El. And it's his voice anyway...

Stamp or Zorbo, either one is fine. Although I can't imagine Zorbo with Stamp's deep voice.

Terrence Stamp is too old. I don't want another geezer Jor-El, I hated that about the movies. Jor-El should be mid-thirties, early forties at the oldest when he sends Kal-El off, similiar to the Animated Series.

Paul Johansson is a great actor. I'm not sure he could pull off Jor-El, but I'm sure it would be worth a watch.
Now, here's kind of a wierd choice, but I'm sure he could pull of such a role: Terry O'Quinn. Now, I dont know if it would interfere with his Lost work, but could you imagine how good that would be.

Well if you go with the animated show...

Tim Daly...

Johansson has the ability to be both a caring father who wants a good life for his son but at the same time is stern and knows that Kal-El has a greater purpose in life.

And again, he looks like a broader, bulkier Reeve which makes him House of El material!

Here is Jor-El (with Krypton via Coruscant) in the background! ;)

Too old
Too short
Looks nothing like Welling

I love Stamp as much as the next person as the voice of Jor-El. But nothing more than the voice.

you take that pic, and colour his hair. And he looks late 40s, early 50s, where Jor'el should be. This is a necessity. Jor'el must be old enough, for the age gap between himself and Clark to be wide enough... for their disagreements to have any weight. Think of it as the liberal son, rebelling against his conservative dad.

having a young, all well meaning jor'el, like in TAS is not the route I think SV can go. Smallville's jor'el is painted as a darker character. A leader of sorts in a global civil war which destroyed the planet. That kind of person, however good, would have serious issues. An older Jor'el represents this better visually. And helps to illustrate a divide between Clark and Jor'el, even though they're still buddies, the divide between family members as adulthood is achieved...

Excellent point, Superfreak!

Plus, if Obi-Wan Kenobi can go from...

After thinking about it, Johansson could be a great choice for the role. He's great as the good guy and as a villain. I'm sure he will pull off misguided good guy very well!
