Weighing Lois and Clark against Smallville is like comparing turds to vomit.

Doesn't matter which end it came out of... you just want to stay the hell away from it.

Ahhh....the upbeat joyful pleasant sounds of fandom.

Agreed on all counts. Just one thing I'd add.

I want thim to ENJOY the challenge of bringing down the man of steel. It brings him pleasure to take down his rival.
Yup. I wrote a story not long ago in the writers workshop..anywho, the Lex in it was Jealous the very first time he saw Superman, ( only It wasnt Superman back then, Clark was still young and in SV, Lex saw him from a distance )
Anywho, Jealousy was an emotion that Lex had never experienced before, and he liked it. It gave him a new reason to enjoy life.

I think Hamm up against a Lex played by either Depp or Day-Lewis would be lites out.

Nolan and Co aren't writing "Man of Steel" as a continuation of Smallville.

Even on the most basic levels, Smallville's universe is too drastically different from what they're doing.

Heck, on Smallville, Lois knows Clark's identity already. It won't match up with Nolan's film. Not even close.

Their not making it a continuation of Superman Returns either but that's not stopping people from suggesting they bring back Routh.

"People" like EMPIRE!

(O)ne thing’s for sure, Brandon Routh wasn't the problem with the last instalment, and still looks like the Big Blue Boy Scout to us.

No one freaked out or was confused by Judi Dench carrying her protrayal of "M" over from the Brosnan Bond entries to the Craig reboot. I think fans overestimate how much the general public cares about such things.

If you want to
Bring Superman Back,
Bring Routh Back!!!!!!

If the rumours are true that the Daily Planet is struggling, Superman doesn't show up straight away in the movie and the Police are struggling with Intergang until Superman comes along then this is clearly going to be Superman Year One so Jon Hamm would be too old to play a Superman who is in his 20s or early 30s.

For brainiac, maybe, but N.O. for Lex. And excuse me for ranting, but why is it that in 9 out of 10 times someone suggests an actor for Lex it's some bald guy? Cant people see past that? Just casting a guy because he's bald, but doesn't necessarily have the right look. That's kinda the same thing with casting a Superman-actor just because he has the right body, but really looks like **** facially. This is what manips are for and they work rather well if they're good.

I didn't suggest him because he's bald. In fact, the actor is not bald that's just a promo pic. And for the record, Christopher Heyerdahl is a great actor.

I have 2 things to say to you Superman: The Movie and Christopher Reeve.

Besides if you cast a well known actor as Superman. Most people will look at at him and say "Hey it's so and so in a Superman suit". Not "Hey look it's Superman".

Exactly, Donner got it I hope Nolan and whoever directs does aswell

On that note I just want to say RIP Tom Mankiewicz

Mine too. I work in telesales! :(

Oops my mistake... he was actually really nice while he was burning his enemies to death.

Actually, it wasn't until watching recent episodes of True Blood that I even noticed the nose problem. In pics it's not that bad.

I don't see how a nose job is easier than wearing lifts in your boots and building up muscle.

Looks like a good movie. But didn't get much of an idea of what Hamm is like as an actor from that.

I agree he can act, and that he has a nice feel to him. He's definitely playing the 'gentle on the inside, powerful on the outside' thing really well. It's really only his look that's a problem for me... and the flash thompson role.

Love this post. Agree with all your points.

I actually feel sick when I look at this. He looks WAY too much like someone's dad. In fact he would have made a great young Jonathon Kent. He's definitely got the look for a character like that.

Agreed. Routh had the kindness and no toughness, same with Reeve (though he was pretty good at toughness in Superman 3).

Hamm and Joe M are taking up most of the discussion. Cavill has hardly been mentioned in the last 15 pages, and Caviezel is only just being mentioned again... which seems like a nice change of pace from Hamm TBH.

And unless they plan on having him standing next to a big ruler, I just don't see it as that much of a problem.

And yet, everyone LOVED Robert Downey Jnr as Tony Stark. DESPITE his height.

I think he's hideous... and I'm a woman, not the best looking guy or girl in the world. He looks like someone's dad, and the kind of day who might make some kind of pervy comment at you at that.

OMG, I so see it!

Okay but only if it's not Hamm as Superman. Otherwise they'd all think it was Perry flying around in tights!

Your comparing apples to peaches when it somes to Tony Stark and Superman first of all.

Secondly, the Superman in the DC Online Universe that burned Black Adams eyes was not "evil' at all.

He was just a bad ass Superman, that was pissed off that some of his friends were killed, and he was in the middle of a freakin war zone!

Wake up please.....

BUT, the same article also said that this superman would already be known by Lois and Metropolis, which could mean an older Superman.
you can't be already known if you havent been around for a little while....so you could kinda take it both ways.

No more inexperienced pretty boy unknown actors please. They have been there and done that waaaaaay back in the 70's and they failed by doing that in Superman Returns also.

Time to get a semi known experienced actor for the role of Supes this time around that can actually ACT!

Good looks run through the family,I am related to her.

:awesome:

Hamm looks like Hugh Laurie IMO.

if Cheryl could pull off a yank accent, then we would have the hottest Lois Lane ever.:woot:

IMHO Jon Hamm is far better suited for the role of Lex Luthor then Superman.

^Agreed. But if he was cast as Supes I would be fine with it. He's 6'0 1/2 and could gain muscle. I want Tahmoh Penikett personally.

Dean Cain wasn't an amazing anything, except for maybe an amazingly bad actor. I'm glad his career went down the tubes.

IMO he is a very natural actor. I have never seen a scene in LnC where he felt like was acting... he just feels like CK to me. Just naturally fits into the role.

And with the script he was given, he truly was the most amazing Clark Kent ever portrayed on screen. Period. JMHO tho.

Weighing Lois and Clark against Smallville is like comparing turds to vomit.

I wouldn't compare either to turds or vomit. They are both television shows that were enough of a success to attract veiwers. They both had very different styles.

In terms of portrayals of Superman, I think LnC was much much better, but Smallville has always been a show that has been enjoyable for me...

Sounds brill. Send me a link :)

I am awake. And I've watched that clip a number of times.

Sorry but if you think that was a good portrayal of a traditional Superman, then your the one who needs to wake up!

Here's another up and coming TV actor that could work as Superman if he bulks up.

Lucas Bryant, star of the new science fiction SyFy series "Haven." He's got a low voice and gives off a Bruce Wayne vibe onscreen, but I think he can be transitioned towards Nolan's Superman.

dont know anything about his acting but judging from these pictures, if he could gain some muscle, i could definitely see him as superman
