And what difference does height and age make? He's one of the most brilliant actors today, even if he is closing in on 90. As I said earlier, Christian Bale isn't Batman's height. Michael Caine is taller than Christian, and generally, Alfred is not portrayed as taller than Bruce.

The Scarecrow is usually shown to be an older guy, but Cillian Murphy is 32.

All in all, it doesn't matter. Even if they wanted a shorter Penguin in the movie, again, what's saying camera tricks and animation can't change Lee's height?

Watch Lord of the Rings. In the scenes in which Lee and Sir Ian McKellen interact, Saruman and Gandalf appear to be around the same height, give or take maybe an inch, two at the most. McKellen is only 5'11".

Again, too stuck on appearance. Why isn't there a thread for intelligent "casting calls"? You know, more based on acting proficiency than character/actor likenesses.

Hes called the penguin because he is fat and ponchy. Looks arnt everything but they stand for something. Cillian Murphy is still creepy, Christian Bale still had slick looks as Bruce Wayne (albeit Keaton less slick than Bale).

I mean if you are just going to name drop, you could say Christopher Lee for any possible character. How intelligent can a casting suggestion be if Christopher Lee is chosen because he is Christopher Lee and no other reason?

What's the matter? Upset because you don't know what you're talking about?

I wasn't trying to be an ass in the first place, but too many people here base acting capabilities on looks. Every time I've come here with a legitimate casting suggestion, I've heard, "S/he doesnt' look like *character*." I'd just like to see people think about what acting takes, instead of fire off about someone who doesn't look the part being inable to therefore play the part.

But if you'd like to be an ass about it, feel free to do so. I wasn't insulting your intelligence (or claiming that I'm more intelligent, for that matter), I was wondering why users here don't apply intelligence to their suggestions, which is evident that many of them are not doing.

Because Christopher Lee is a phenomenal actor who I think could bring a certain type of lord-like personality and menace to the character... Almost like a more imposing, arrogant version of Liam Neeson. If The Penguin is going to be in this movie, I don't feel that the general use of the character in the comics will translate into cinema very well. Some liberties will have to be taken, and I think an actor like Lee could suit a more real-world rendition of the character (yes, I'm aware that he has no superpowers, and the fact that he's one of the more realistically-based characters in many comics).

The character is referred to as The Penguin because of penguin-like features, which could include a beak-like nose, the flipper-ish fingers used in Batman Return, or other bird-like qualities- not just being short and overweight.

All of which can be done by Bob Hoskins, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and David Suchet, all phenomonal actors who can not only play the part to perfection and have major credibility as fantastic actors but also look the part.

This isnt like saying Triple H for Thor. But ever since Heath Ledger people have just started name dropping for the sake of name dropping with no real rhyme or reason.

The comic basis of Penguin is basically being Al Capone. He is pulling strings and had his hands in everybodys pockets but his hands are also "clean," no one can pin anything on him. The Penguin is the kinda gangster who goes down for not paying his taxes. In addition he's very posh and intelligent and exerts power to overcompensate for his height and weight. How this won't translate to the movie, I dont know.

well in the comic its basically short and fat and a beak nose. I dont see anyone calling Christopher Lee Penguin if he had a beak nose. More like the vulture or condor or something. Its not a penguin suit, it is a resemblance to a penguin that has inspired the name.

Daniel Day-Lewis for Superman, Sean Penn for Captain America, Ryan Gosling for Darkseid Johnny Depp for everybody. All phenomenal actors but not always the right fit.

I see what you're saying Cunning Stunts about people base choices too much on looks and I agree about that. But there has to be some resemblance. Lee has no with Penguin, none at all. All the actors in these movies are any at all has somereseblance to the character. Yes it shouldnt be all looks, but you cant just forget the look of the character.

Using Christopher Lee as Penguin would be like casting Danny DeVito as Batman.

I understand. Though something as minor as the character's place of birth can be changed.

I'm not saying Black mask has to be Texan or anything, I am just thinking of ways to make a character more interesting, and giving him a little Texan twang would make him stand out amongst all Eastern Seaboard accents. I am sure there is other less debatable ways to make him more compelling, but I am just throwing out ideas.
 
I for one, hope The Penguin has nothing to do with Nolan's Batman. I've never liked the character.

me either. but I thought I heard some where on these boards that nolan pretty much swore off penguin and robin. So I don't think you have to worry about him being in the next movie.

(altho I think if he did show up nolan would find a way to make him cool.)
 
Nah, that is really cheesy imo... I really don't see a way of including him without it turning into a Burton like movie. Unless you have him as an associate of the mob.

I see no reason to include him. Keep naming names, all sounds like including Lee just to include him.
"LETS SEE HOW MANY MOVIES LEE CAN DO BEFORE HE DIES!"
