Ok im black and i hate when people do this.

What in the hell is wrong with you people!!!! The Riddler is a white man and Mos Def is black. Unless he pulls a "Reverse Robert Downey Jr." and becomes white then this role is not meant for him. And even if he did do that he should be played by a white person. This suggestion is almost like saying Storm from the X men should be played by Angelina Jolie....well she did play a black person in that one movie BUT STILL!!!! my point is it didnt work for Halle Berry in Catwoman so why the Hell would it work for Mos Def as the Riddler?

Its not that big of a deal to have a black Riddler. It does nothing to the character. It doesnt mean they are going to make him ghetto fabulous or something. The fact that Catwoman was black was far from the bad thing in that project. If she was played by a white woman the movie would not change.

While Storm is an African native and believed to be a god by an African tribe for a long time makes it hard to make Storm white. In addition, so many black characters have been made so stereotypically that the fact that they are black has become so permanent to the character. One character in general (who may be two small to even care about) is Spawns buddy who was portrayed by a white man in the movie but is a black man in the comic (the one who marries Spawns wife after his death)

But since people are soooo...keen to this idea of a black Riddler its either Laurence Fishburne or nobody and thats where I stand on it

I dont think many people are keen on a black Riddler. They are just spitballing ideas of people who can pull of the performance. Skin color isnt that important for Riddler.

And Fishburne would not make a good Riddler IMO. I cant see it even in the least.

This is if you go by the book...Which doesn't need to happen...Don't count out anyone for a certain part...But I agree, I think a Caucasian male should play the role...I'm still for David Tennant!t:

Yeah, I know hes drawn white, but I dont see the big deal in making him black. His skin color has little importance to his personality or history besides the fact that the first person drew him white. I care more about the performance than making sure that the character has jumped off the page.

The Joker's skin color was changed, the Riddler's changing is no big deal.

Laurence Fishburne? Interesting - not my favorite, but interesting.

I think Don Cheadle would be absolutely amazing as the Riddler.

According to several reports, it’s rumored that Johnny Depp is being considered to play the role of The Riddler, whose stretch pants were last filled by funnyman Jim Carrey. Who would you rather see wearing spandex?

Speaking of tight ensembles, Angelina Jolie has been linked to the role of Catwoman, Batman’s stealthy rival and love-interest, formerly portrayed by Michelle Pfeifer and Halle Berry. In a recent interview with the Daily News, film icon and original Catwoman Julie Newmar whole-heartedly endorsed the idea of Angelina Jolie stepping into the skin-tight costume. "Angelina would own the part," Newmar said. And she definitely has a point. Check her out as the uber-asassin Fox in this summer’s action flick "Wanted." Newmar also claims that there is truth behind the casting rumors. "My industry friends tell me [she] has made inquiries about the role. I can understand how it would pique her interest. Ill agree theres time and place where race can change.

The iconic nature of Supes and Bats and Spidey will make it so they never change race.

Luke Cage and Black Panther are directly tied to their race so that wont happen. Because so many of the black characters were born out of "barrier breaking for equality" changing the race will be much more difficult.

Its never necessary but I dont see the point in limiting the crop of talented actors because of skin color. Theres plenty of slim, lanky black guys who can pull of the performance needed for the Riddler and should have an equal shot at getting the role.
