The Dark Knight Rises Casting Call (All Villains)

I thought of something that I haven't seen anyone post here...

Why hasn't anyone recommended Al Pacino for The Penguin? It struck me today, and the guy seems like the perfect fit to really make a phenomenal crime drama out of the next movie, as well as make The Penguin a great menace to Batman, given Pacino's crime drama expertise.

He has the face for a good Penguin, but what about his body, and his age?

While I'm not one for Al Pacino as Oswald Cobblepot/Penguin, he's a fairly short man and I don't think his age should be an issue. There isn't necessarily a set age that the Penguin has to be or anything.

I've just always thought of Penguin as no older than mid-50's, whereas I think Pacino's pushing 70.

Second that comment.

Yea if Pacino is given a role where he can really sink his teeth into it, age flies straight out the window.

I know she isn't a villain but Elizabeth Banks as Vicki Vale just because I love EB

Thanks I think Elizabeth Banks would be perfect and plus she is super hot

and I think Pauley Perrette would make a good Harley Quinn

Riddler-Casey Affleck
Catwoman-Marion Cotillard*
Harley Quinn-Kristen Bell
Poison Ivy- Emily Blunt
Mad Hatter- Sam Neil
Talia Al Ghul-Eva Green
Bane-Javier Bardem
Penguin- Bob Hoskins

*My number one choice tho I think many actresses would fit the role purrfectly, Keri Russell, Angelina Jolie, Rachel Weisz, Cate Blanchett, Charlize Theron or Eliza Dushku would be great also

Exactly... I mean, I honestly think that bringing in an actor as legendary as Pacino into the sequel, then getting a few other real good actors to play other notable villains like Catwoman or Riddler, or whoever else may be chosen, could bring this trilogy to an end with a huge bang.

that's pretty much what happened w/ ledger (only in reverse) but he still doesn't seem like he could pull off penguin the way i picture that character in my head. (quirky and stout:oldrazz: )

Ever hear of make-up and prosthetics? It's working wonders these days.

Besides, Pacino is one of the greatest actors of our time. He CAN pull off The Penguin, and I would GUARANTEE you that if he were given the role (and I don't make guarantees).

Also, you've got to keep in mind, the character isn't going to be what's in your, nor anyone else's on these boards. It's going to be what's in Nolan's and Goyer's heads.

I'm starting a new campaign. PACINO FOR PENGUIN!

(w/ the exception of 2face)they don't really like to go the route of prosthetics in these movies. the most make up on a character was the joker. so i doub't they'd give who ever plays the penguin, like a fake nose or something.

and, as much as i like pacino, i think if they hired him the role of the penguin would end up as being to much of a stereotypical gangster. and the only thing that would set him apart form the gangsters of bb and tdk, and inform the audiance who the character even was would prolly be a tuxedo and the fact that his nickname is the penguin.

so maybe if he was just going to end up a backround villain that'd be fine, but I'm assuming they'd give him a larger role.

idk, i'd just prefer if the actor who played the penguin fit his body type, or atleast have a similar body type, and still act like the penguin.

I mean, as much as they changed the joker, you always knew who you where watching on screen. and he didn't act like your typical cerial killer at all. and he still had his laugh and smile.

(part 2 of my post begins here:yay:)
ok, bassically the things that penguin would need to still be the penguin (imo) are...

1: an umbrella (it could just be a normal umbrella, but he still needs to carry 1 w/ him where ever he goes)

2: a top hat. (he'd need to where this in atleast 1 scene, but he wouldn't need it the whole movie.)

3: he needs to be atleast a lil chunkie. (just so long as he's not extra skinny or extra buff, I'd be fine w/ just about any weght.)

4: a freakn good, black and white only suit.

and the optional penguin elements are...

1: his shortness. (but if he somehow ends up being like an inch taller than batman, that wouldn't be that big of a deal to me )

2: a long nose.

3: quirkiness. he shouldn't be as out there as joker or scarecrow was. just awkward enough so people underestimate how intelligent he is, so that at some point in the movie he's caught everybody off guard w/ some sorta ingenius scheme. they can make him serious too. just not undertaker serious.

um, i guess thats all i have to say on the penguin. ...except that PSH should play him.:woot:

For The Riddler Damien Lewis or Scott Grimes

Why Sam Neill for the Mad Hatter? I can't see any connection there. Plus, I also can't see Sam Neill's career any more. Where's it gone?

Plus, is there really any need to have an actor of Javier Bardem's calibre for Bane? He'd be wearing a mask most of the time, wouldn't he?

Penguin taller than Batman? Please God NO!

You say that because you're assuming they haven't already, and because you're assuming they're not open to it. It doesn't take much to change a nose.

and, as much as i like pacino, i think if they hired him the role of the penguin would end up as being to much of a stereotypical gangster. and the only thing that would set him apart form the gangsters of bb and tdk, and inform the audiance who the character even was would prolly be a tuxedo and the fact that his nickname is the penguin. Pacino is an actor, and one of THE greatest this world's ever known. Pacino does not approach roles- ESPECIALLY one like this- thinking, "I can just be any normal mobster." The reason stories happen in theatre is because they're extraordinary situations about not-so-ordinary people in the midst of conflict. Comic books have taken that to the next level, and thus, so have movies based on comic books. Also, Nolan would not ALLOW a stereotypical gangster to be in the part of The Penguin. Pacino has one of the greatest levels of crime drama expertise in the entire Hollywood industry today, and would easily bring The Penguin to the forefront and take him from being a gimmick-laden character to a full-fledged mobster element added to The Penguin's "freakish" nature.

so maybe if he was just going to end up a backround villain that'd be fine, but I'm assuming they'd give him a larger role.

idk, i'd just prefer if the actor who played the penguin fit his body type, or atleast have a similar body type, and still act like the penguin. Again, blah blah blah with the look. I've got news for you, unless the theatrical venue has low budget or is absolutely terrible, "the look" makes up for a VERY small amount of the choice. When "the look" takes precedence over talent, we get terrible actors like Eliza Dushku playing Catwoman. We also get movies that bomb into the abyss, like The Scooby Doo series. The only benefit for that movie was that Lillard- who is very underrated- got more big-time exposure.

I mean, as much as they changed the joker, you always knew who you where watching on screen. and he didn't act like your typical cerial killer at all. and he still had his laugh and smile.

As such would be with The Penguin. Do you honestly think Nolan isn't smart enough to make damned sure that you know you're watching The Penguin? You knew you were watching The Joker because Nolan made sure that- despite certian changes- The Joker fit the storyline and the adaptation from the comics accordingly, and The Penguin would be NO DIFFERENT.

Why can't fans appreciate a great actor instead of some unfounded need to have an actor that looks like their beloved comic characters? I love Batman just as much as, if not more, than the next guy, and always have... But also, I love acting- it's perhaps my greatest passion- and I realize that in order to bring Batman's villains into Nolan's world, and that to bring a another movie and sequel up to The Dark Knight's level, we're going to need phenomenal villains played by phenomenal people. The Penguin is one of the most notable villains from Batman's comics: Al Pacino is one of the most notable crime drama actors in all of history.

Pacino is a perfect fit to take a character that many non-comic-reading viewers (and even some comic-reading ones) would take as a joke and turn him into a real, grounded villain.

just because an actor's good, doesn't make him right for any role you can think of. I just don't see pacino as penguin. and i don't think i said an actor who played penguin had to look identical to penguin, just have a similar body type.

but what's w/ people on these boards only suggesting their favorite actors every role they can think of, regardless of whether or not they can pull off that role.

I mean I think johnny depp is the best actor in the world (no exageration) but i don't think he could be a convincing penguin either.

...on a side note, i wonder what paccino would be like as the ventriloquist? :hehe::hehe: it'd be interesting seeing him do both him and scarface in the same movie. if nothing else, it'd be ironic.

(and no, i don't think he'd make scarface act like the title character in scarface)

How does this sound? John Lithgow as the Ventriloquist?

For starters, he's not my favorite actor. My favorite actors are Samuel L. Jackson, Clive Owen, and Daniel Craig.

Second, I recommend him because he's a great actor, and I feel this next movie needs a top-list, highly-recognized actor to propel it to the pre-release and critical statuses TDK had

Just remember: Eckhart was and still is a bit of a Hollywood outsider (as far as megastardom is concerned) and Ledger was a very risky choice when made.

Only in hindsight can we see how well these choices worked, so we have to have the foresight to see you don't need a big name to get a big performance. You need great character actors.

As much as I love Pacino, I don't see him as great a character actor as a lot of other names running around lipstick city.

Also, the Dark Knight didn't hit mega-super-holy**** prerelease craziness until after Ledger died. Those of us doing the viral stuff, while many, made the hype seem way bigger than it actually was prior to Heath's passing.

You're saying this as if I don't know it already. I know we don't NEED big-name actor actor to get a big performance, I just think what his movie needs to match that kind of hype is a big-name actor.

I may be wrong, I may be right. I'm inputting my two cents as someone who has a bit of experience in the theatrical world.
