They are weakest because the MCU bar is higher than other comic book franchises. That doesn't make them bad.
Id rank kt slightly more enjoyable than suicide squad, but still better because it worked forctheir universe very well.

I liked Thor 1 and thor 2. Both better than Iron Man 2 and 3 and both hulk movies.

I truthfully do not understand why there's so much dislike towards the first movie. Yeah The Dark World royally sucked and I can see why they decided to make the follow-up a complete 180, but I don't quite get why the first one also gets lumped in with it when people talk about the Thor franchise sucking.

It's nowhere near as good as Iron Man 1 obviously but the worst thing I can say about it is it spends too much time on Earth (which I argue makes sense for an origin like this, so I wasn't bothered).

This kind of revisionism irks me too. Branagh's Thor was excellent. Before Phase 2 hit CA:TFA was widely considered the weak link of the MCU. Then T:TDW hit first followed by CA:TWS and thanks to the Russo's suddenly everything Cap ever touched retroactively became gold while Thor apparently became the red-headed step child of the MCU.

I understand people around here hate Thor 2 but that doesn't take away from the successes of the first film. I happen to enjoy Thor 2 immensely but love it or hate it, at least TDW was successful enough to warrant a third film in the franchise which brought us to Waititi and what looks to be a very promising and perhaps the best version of Thor yet. As a Thor fan that makes me very happy. But I wish people would stop ragging on the old films and move on already. At least Marvel tries to learn from their missteps and give fans what they want.

It's ironic that despite the perception that exists among some that the Thor films are the weakest of the MCU to date the best, most well regarded big screen villains are Loki and quite possibly and hopefully Hela.

I was thinking the same thing yesterday.

Forgive me here. Im about to ask a potentially stupid question.

Is this Lady Death? Like the same Lady Death that Thanos chases after?

No, but a lot of people are assuming she'll be the MCU's version of Lady Death.

In the comics, no. She's the Norse Goddess of Death (Marvel uses a bunch of different religious pantheons) and ruler over one underworld (there are several). Lady Death, is a different character (she's the physical personification of death itself basically).

Hela is more like Mephisto (they have actually competed against each other before in fact).

Now it's possible that the films might skip all of that and combine her with Lady Death, but we don't know that for sure yet of course.

Yes I liked the first film a lot. I think the 2nd emphasised and doubled down on the weak points of the first and that might be one reason why people start lumping them together and forget or downplay the good points of the first. One thing at least this new film is not going to get lumped in with them looking so crazily different!

I like the first film to. However, I can see why many don't. We don't spend much time on Asgard, and the Asgardian cast gets shortchanged in screentime and development.

A lot of people found that disappointing, along with not finding small town New Mexico all that interesting. And a lot of people weren't taken with Thor and Jane's romance.

Also some of the effects/CGI haven't aged all that well either.

Well said.

Well, Cap has now had two movies that really raised the bar. That certainly influences fan perception.

The first Thor movie was solid, though.

I watched the first Thor last night. I still enjoy it. They got the family drama right. Anthony Hopkins was so good. I loved the banishing scene.

Anyway, I'm so friggin stoked at how good Hela looks. That headdress is everything.

She looks so good, much better than I expected and much better than some of the published photos.

The first movie is great...it's ironic, at first, I didn't care for it but repeated viewings made me fall in love with the film. With TDW, I liked it a lot starting off but now I'm pretty 'meh' towards it. It's not the worst movie ever or even the worst of the MCCU, but it could've offered so much more.

But I fully expect this third outing to rectify the problems of the second & hopefully be as good (probably better) than the first.

Should be - I've been suggesting that for several years now...

I think it's going to be.

Is it just me or does this look like it takes place on Earth? Either that or they've added fire escapes on Asgard.

Yes, that seems to fit with some concept art that we've seen. Apparently Thor and Loki are on earth looking for Odin when this happens, as suggested already in the Doctor Strange post-credits scene.

That is what fans have pieced together, anyway.

I loved Thor when it came out. I remember going to it with my son, and I absolutley love it. I think I saw it 5 or 6 times in the theater. I loved Cap TFA, but I don't think it's in the same league as Thor.

I think TDW suffered from production issues. They had Patty Jenkins penned, then that fell through. They brought on Alan Taylor who I think has proven he can't direct feature films, after Terminator Genisys. He's fine on TV with Game of Thrones. The result was a movie that was kind of rushed together. I think there were conceptually some good ideas, and I don't think it's a bad film it's just one of the weaker MCU films.

It's on Earth. It's one of the very few scenes in the hole movie that actually takes place on Earth.
Thor and Loki are looking for Odin and apparently they find him in this alley. And that's when they are confronted by Hela.

Any ideas what accents she's attempting?

What a silly question, it's pretty obvious from the three words that she speaks in the trailer that she's using an RP (Received Pronunciation) English accent, just like the rest of the Asgardian characters. And Cate Blanchett does not 'attempt' an RP accent, just watch her as Galadriel or Elizabeth I as a start, her RP accent is flawless. So much so that I had a full blown argument with a friend once who abjectly refused to believe that she's not English. :funny:

I know I thought she was English too for a long time. When I found out she was from Melbourne I was shocked. I'm not sure I've ever heard her in her native accent.

^ A great interview with Cate (skip to about 5:30 in when it starts) which I watched recently, her real voice and accent is just heavenly. :drl:

The first Thor had the best score of the phase 1 movies. I was disappointed we haven't really heard it since.

I think the small town feel and not enough time in Asgard is what really downgrades it. It's like making a He-man movie and having it be on Earth.

They did good with the trailer in giving her a great first impression. Nothing like crushing one of the most iconic weapons in the MCU to say "I'm pretty dangerous."

Now to see how they handle her character with the larger movie. Give her some nice scenes to flesh out her character a bit. Cate Blanchett doesn't need much time to steal some scenes :).

This was for me one of the best scenes in the TT. If not even the best.
It's just so menacing and beautiful at the same time. And after you see what she does to mjolnir in the context of the trailer it just makes this scene even more impactful.
