CC vs Ads!

Started having problems with ads, both on my macbook at home this weekend and on my Windows7 at work this morning (browsing in Chrome on both, and both have AdBlockPlus). The biggest hangup seems to be with the 'video' ads at the bottom of posts:

I have had zero problems with ads on mobile until last week. It is absolutely terrible now.

It is so bad, I thought I somehow and someway got a virus on my mobile browser at first.

Yep, major ad problems as of today. None present last night. Adblock only works until the page refreshes and a new ad takes its place. The mobile site is still unusable (especially the main page).

Seems right clicking on the page and choosing inspect to open the side bar eliminates everything.

Before that it was the Citizen watch ads.

Just tried that. That's interesting...

So that worked for you guys as well. Weird. It's almost like Adblock can't recognize the ads until you inspect and then it's like "oh wait! these are supposed to be blocked too!"

Edit: Even with this odd little fix of getting them to disappear, it still feels like the board is a bit slower than it normally does.

Can confirm this works.

I've a system-wide ad-blocker (AdGuard), so I'm not bound by any particular browser or application. And loading up these boards have been the only thing to supersede it, which is incredibly disconcerting.

There's a brief moment where the page is filtered through as expected, but then it instantly refreshes and my adblocker isn't working on the page.

Think I'm going to lay low for a bit until this is sorted out. Sidenote, why is this one of the few sites still without HTTPS support? Get with the times!

If you don't want us to use ad blockers, don't sign off on ads that take up literally the entire screen (like on the main site), which have to be closed before you can access the site. I see that lovely Pringles ad is still in rotation over there. Or ads that are just auto-playing videos that slow everything down like molasses.

If you went with simple, clean ads that weren't intrusive, I probably would disable my ad blocker. But you don't, so I won't.

The problem persists, at least on Chrome at work for me. The ads reappear again if I open a new browser; have to right click and inspect again. No issues on Firefox at home though.

All you gotta do is start charging for bigger avies. Folks would no doubt pay. A one time charge fee of say 5 bucks.

I'm getting "watch SyFy channel" ads today. They block the entire screen and I have to refresh to get rid of them. This is with an ad blocker too.
