Chadwick Boseman is Black Panther! - Part 5

But... but... that makes even less sense. MCU characters aren't allowed to die? Because, if you're stating that your "wasted actor" argument isn't about race, then logically, that amounts to one of the following four options:

"Marvel shouldn't kill off characters portrayed by actors I like"
"Marvel shouldn't cast actors I like as characters that will get killed off"
"Marvel shouldn't kill off anyone"
"Marvel shouldn't kill off interesting characters"

None of those makes sense in the context of making or attempting to make good movies.

I guess I wanted to see Hounsou and AAA in more than one MCU movie. But I guess we'll have to disagree on that. There are certain actors I want to see in more than one MCU movie. They fit that list.

Oh well, I guess it will never happen. That's my point. I guess I wasn't clear enough for you.

I wanted to see more of Lee Pace in the MCU as well. Oh well.

Isn't that the running joke of Marvel never killing people off.

It does free up Hounsou and AAA roles in other superhero films.

Had he not been Heimdall, I think Idris Elba would have made for a decent Apocalypse. AAA might be a decent fit for Apocalypse.

Fair enough. Maybe I came off as overly hostile, and for that I apologize.

Look, even I would have preferred if they held out Hounsou for T'Chaka because that seems like a really good fit to me. (I'm thinking that's a "one and done" we both would've been for. :))

My point is that Hounsou was really cool as Korath. He made quite the impact despite limited screen-time and I'll forever have this interpretation of the character in my mind after not giving 2 craps about Korath from the comics. Yes, this means he can't play T'Chaka, but they'll find someone good. Maybe someone who fits even better. Maybe not. I choose to sit here and enjoy the wait... not to mention discuss every single frickin' detail with you bozos as it comes up. :)

Guys, we still have...

- Chadwick Boseman
- Morris Chestnut
- Peter Mensah
- Common
- Michael Jai White
- Shemar Moore

And that's just off the top of my head without going further with some up-and-comers like Boyega and such. Marvel has this.

Oh, (Panther) god no.

Yeah Common doesn't even rank. And MJW is 47. If they go with a (semi) known actor, the list is actually pretty short. A proven bona fide star that's the right age doesn't exist, which is one reason the movie is still up in the air. A sad state of affairs.

Wait were you guys talking about T'Chakka? Too lazy to check...

Boseman is proven bonafide. He definitely has the age, talent, the look, and the physicality. If you haven't seen him, go watch get on up or 42. Im convinced hell get the role, that breakfast club interview told it all.

i was going to ejiofor b/c i thought boseman is too young, plus he has the whedon connection, but they're both the same age :wow:

boseman would be a great choice

Boseman is 32. Ejiofor is 37. Ejiofor was in his early 20's when Amistad came out.

It's cool. I liked Hounsou as Korath.

I saw Extant last night and I saw someone who could be a possible dark horse for T'Chaka:

- Jimmy Jean Louis.

Boseman is the perfect age for a panther with real longevity, or a panther that is just stepping into his role (losing his father, becoming, officially taking the mantle)

Out of that list, it should be Boseman. Mensah would be a good option for T'Chaka though.

Peter Mensah was in The Incredible Hulk.

Shemar Moore and Common? to american looking.

I think after everything, I basically come back to the obvious. Ejiofor and Boseman. My preference has always been Ejiofor. But if Marvel isn't able to land him, Boseman would do nicely.

For T'Chaka, I want an absolute A-lister... maybe even Denzel, if he'd do it. I want the audience to viscerally feel the impact of his death, since IMO it ought to be the most emotionally resonant event of the movie.

Phew, I almost started a whole defensive rant there but I kind of see your point even if you were just a little bit direct in the other message.

*hugs back*

Yeah I think it's bosemans or boyegas to loose. I also think getting a Hopkins level talent to play t'chakka is a very strong move to give BP a huge amount of weight and an epic feel.

Was thinking about both. Not specifically T'Chakka or T'Challa.

He absolutely is the ideal guy. Even if they never used some of the other guys like Elba in the MCU, Boseman would still be my choice.

Peter Mensah was in The Incredible Hulk.

Oh, frig, totally forgot. That tiny role where he pulls in Blonsky for Ross.

Shemar Moore and Common? to american looking.

Honestly, looks are the least of my worry.

I dont think mensah is a big deal, the woman who played quills mom was In ca:tfa too, for a split second. But its whatever. Lol. My top 2 t'chakka picks are Denzel (for obvious reasons) and Wesley Snipes, he's can be a physical bad ass t'chakka and suffer his inevitable fate.

I think a guy like Denzel would be open to T'Chakka because it doesn't require the crazy commitment that most Marvel roles would. And I can totally see him as Boseman's daddy. Haha.

Yeah, I need marvel to announce this stuff. The wait is killer.

I just don't like Boseman for BP. I like the guy as an actor and and he seems cool in interviews that I've seen and he was good in 42 but he just doesn't seem Kingish to me.

Then again he is a good anctor and how many times have we all blasted an actor who was cast or was WTF, only to have the casting turn out good.

The issue I have with Denzel as T'Chaka is that the role will have to be expanded for him to do it. If you look at his film history, while he's not against dying in movies, he usually doesn't die until the third act. The role of T'Chaka would have to be beefed up dramatically for Denzel to even consider such a role. If you want T'Chaka to die early in the movie, then someone like Danny Glover or Forrest Whitaker should be the right choice. If you want him to die in the third act, then Denzel is the guy.

I don't think Denzel would take on the role of T'Chaka if the guy dies early in the movie. Perhaps I'm wrong about that, but I say this based on his prior film work. If he wants to do only one Marvel film and the role of T'Chaka is expanded, then him being in a Marvel movie would be a huge coup for Marvel Studios.
