Chapter 51 - "Cold Wars" Discussion Thread 2/23/09

He's what's keeping this episode alive. HRG is such an annoying character. I hate it when entire episodes are devoted to him. :down

It must suck being in the minority, HRG is one of the best and most interesting characters on the show and alot of people think so.

Yes, please no Claire or Hiro and the show will go up millions. Peter was sooo kick ass tonight its not even funny.

Not me. I think he's overstayed his welcome along with Sylar and Hiro.

Good episode, and I'm sick of the premonitions. Let that ability fade out.

HRG will never go as long as Claire stays and they need an interesting morally ambiguous non super on the show.

Another volume with a disaster painted by someone

Matt's gonna pull a terrorist attack on Washington DC?

Nuts.

There were two really neat parallels to "Five Years Gone" in this episode:

- Nathan getting Mohinder work on his team for a cure to the powers. Could this lead up to us seeing Mohinder in the same position as a part of Nathan's presidential team?

- Noah helping all the specials get to safety. He's secretly working with Angela to help them all, so he's on track to his FYG self as well.

Man I didnt see all those parallels, great episode in my mind.

Everyone with the future drawing/painting ability was killed off. Nice knowin' ya Matt.

This episode was a good setup for the rest of the season. I like how there was some more development of the hunter character and seeing peter actually pull the trigger.
It also point to dissention between nathan an hunter . Also Nathan does have some concern for the heroes . I think Nathan will go back to siding with his brother .

Boy, they were really trying hard to envoke "Company Man" from Season 1, weren't they? Granted, it's not a hostage situation, but it's a similar set-up, in that Bennet is held captive by people with abilities in order to find out what he's been up to and get black and white flashbacks. Course, I did like the idea of using Matt's telepathy to provide those flashbacks.
Kind of figured that HRG was still a "good guy," but I should have expected that he's still working for Angela to bring down the Building 2-6 organization from the inside. Of course, it didn't come as much of a shock to learn that Daphne was still alive.

I was also surprised about the revelation that Nathan ultimate goal is to find a way to eliminate abilities altogether. It seems contrary to the fact that he wanted to carry out his father's goal of giving everyone abilities last season, unless of course I'm misreading it and that Nathan wants to eliminiate abilities from some while letting others have theirs. I was also a bit surprising that MohinDUH! knew about the crackdown on specials weeks before but didn't say anything because he didn't trust HRG. Not to mention that, on a subconcious level, he wanted to be caught to pay for his sins from last volume.

The one character, however, who seems completely one-dimensional is Mr. Danko. Oh sure, he wants to hunt down the specials because he considers them threats on the same level as terrorists, but there's got to be more to it than that it would seem to me.

And finally, another explosion? From another painting from the future? Really Heroes? You're going back to THAT well again? Just once I like a volume in which there wasn't some major disaster involved, thank you.

am I right in tinking this was fullers first full episode since coming back?

Thought it was a brilliant episode.

I'm all for HRG; I still think he's a BAMF. However, I would like to see some changes...the "I'm all and only about protecting my daughter" bit is getting dated, in the same way as Claire's complaining about being useless. Less of the angsty struggle to play Dad, and more of the commitment to being bad*** HRG. I realize that protecting Claire is part of his intentions/motivations as a character, but I have to roll my eyes every time they rehash that played out explanation.

What about Lyle...haha. In his mind, he's definitely only got one kid.

Good seeing Matt actually taking a step closer to doing something...though would have liked to have seen him use his powers and avoid being apprehended (even though Peter saved him). He's proven before that he can be dangerous, so I was hoping for something more at the end...maybe he was physically/mentally strained from probing HRG...

I kept expecting him to use a power to get the gun away from Peter.

And one of them seriously just needs to blurt out in front of the hunters, "Do they know you can fly, Nathan?"

See, what you don't realize is that there's another Haitian with invisibility powers who inhibits Common Sense. :woot:
