Chapter 55 - "Into Asylum" Discussion Thread - 3/30/09

They are finally getting the writing on track. I truly thank the Gods for this.

I watched last week's ep right before this one and that send off for Daphne was unexpected, well conceived and well executed. I think with this week they managed to trick us with the Sylar swap in the club. They are doing it right again by not giving everyone time in every episode.

I hope to see this building to a worthy climax.

And of course Sylar is going to be a shapeshifter. They still haven't done a damn thing to prevent him stealing Nathan's identity in the future, so it's only natural he gain that ability.

I would, however, like to see a new threat come to the forefront. We need to see HRG team up with the Haitian and to be the counterbalance to Danko/Sylar. Meanwhile, the heroes are regrouping and fighting whatever villains are out and about and forming their own group, heading by a magneto-like minded character.

I think it may be leading up to this. The heroes are being hunted, and some of them are going to start fighting back. It would be badass to see two teams of hero/humans fighting two teams of mutants (who are themselves fighting) with the backdrop of more government/military action against mutants.

ROCK.

An enjoyable episode. I'm sure Sylar fanboys are having a blast with this one.

Good stuff with the Danko/Sylar pairing. Much better than the Luke (is that his name?)/Sylar pairing. The dynamics better with the former, as they're more on the level--they're both using each other equally and are much better match.

Not sure what to make of Claire/Nathan. To me, it's the same old song and dance. However, I enjoyed seeing another glimpse into Claire's powers during the drinking scene.

I wasn't tricked. He pulled out a gun as Sylar. Sylar doesn't carry guns.

Mdizzle did you watch it on Global too?

Yep, it's showing at 10 where I am. I guess everyone in the states gets it an hour earlier? I'm usually one of the last to comment on the eps.

Ugh, am I the only one that doesn't want this to turn out with 5 years gone(or whatever the name of that ep was) being the main future?

That future was over all just depressing and even if they change some stuff I probably won't like it.

Season 1 characters need to start dying and Nathan being dead in Five Years Gone is fine with me. I wonder if that is Tracy or Barbara beside fake Nathan/Sylar's side???

This episode was alright. Mama Petrelli is getting great development and they seem to have Sylar back on track. However, it wasn't as awesome as last week but hopefully this volume and season ends with a big fight unlike lame last volume.

I think Nathan and Claire, among others, need to take their quest in a different direction. Nathan's been misguided since season 1, and has been trying to exert his control over the mutant problem for quite some time (wait, I'm thinking X-Men...let's back track haha). We need to take Nathan out of office, give him different motivations. Claire needs to mature as a character and get past the parental issues that have been leading her around in circles.

I'm liking where Sylar is now. This is more what he's meant to be, and where we saw him in season 1. I think the Dad storyline had potential, but having John Glover in for one ep was a bit of a let down. Still, I think we'll continue seeing good things Sylar-wise in the coming eps.

Will any of them ever become actual Heroes? That's the thing that's pissed me off about this show since the begining.

Overall, pretty good episode. An entertaining Claire storyline for the first time in a while.
Angela/Peter scenes = meh. Just ok, IMHO.
Sylar/Danko/Shapeshifter chasing stuff = Pretty cool. I also was tricked into first thinking it was Danko being impersonated. ("He's gone. For good this time. Let's get out of here." or whatever it was didn't seem to fit.) Then 'Sylar' pulls out a gun, a momentary blip of confusion, and it clicks. Better storytelling than we got last Volume at any rate.

Oh yeah, some good music in this episode too. Like the song in Danko's car / right before the Eclipse title card. And some of the stuff that played when we were in Mexico.

Yeah, just my two cents for now. Will think of something more interesting later.

Two good episodes in a row.

Sylar is actually threatening again instead of annoying. Even Claire actually came across real. Mama Petrelli had the best storyline of the night in a weird way.

Like sylar of course other than that.... I didnt like this episode at all

It was a good episode . I think we need more villians with longevity than Sylar though.

Okay, I've just started watching and one line jumped out.

"Danko's reach doesn't extend south of the border."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Danko launch a military operation in Japan in the beginning of the volume to capture Hiro?

Why is Mama Petrelli in the state she is in know, a few episodes ago she was playing the all knowing and all part of our plan with HRG. And now she is like a scared little mouse who is seeking redemption.

This episode was a fantastic, I loved it. This is the first time in a while I have watched heroes and wanted to watch the next episode immediately.

As long as the vulnerable spot of his brain remains, he can be stopped. It's difficult, not impossible.

But it is. Sylar and Claire have had stuff in the vulnerable spot. As soon as it is removed, they heal. Sylar is for all intents and purposes unable to be killed. Which makes him ridiculously over powered.

Also, Hulu is streaming like crap today. I only got eight minutes in. Will have to try again later. :cmad:

I thought it was, "Let's hope his reach doesn't...."

But if not you have a point.

:whatever:

The last time I checked, Japan was out WEST over the Pacific Ocean. The U.S. also has over 33-thousand troops within its borders, stationed in over 60 facilities. It's not like Danko actually has to send people into Japan for any operation on Japanese soil. Not to mention it'll be real easy to transport people out of there, since U.S. military flights are unregulated by Japan.

Also, "south of the border" is a euphemism for "Mexico". There's a reason why Mexico is the fugitive's destination of choice. Besides uncooperative, corrupt, and almost feudal local authorities, it's extradition policies are leveraged against the foreign governments trying to get people out of Mexico.

But hey, the show must be improving. You're moving into nit-picking territory from your broad-based and generalized ravings. Or are you saving that for when you are done watching?

My point is, if Danko is capable of launching a black op on foreign soil to capture the head of a prominent Japanese corporation with no provokation or warrant, I'm pretty sure he could get a team into Mexico. Especially when extradition with Mexico isn't nearly as hard as you act. Especially since the signing of NAFTA when Mexico's economy became dependent on ours. The implication was that Danko was not capable of getting people from a foreign country, when he obviously is.

I'm surprised no one mentioned (asked) how the shapshifter was able to turn into Sylar. It was pretty obvious that to turn into someone he had to touch them. When did that happen? What about his clothes, do they have the ability to change as well?:whatever:

I'm also curious how Sylar stole this guy's power without slicing his head open. Maybe they'll show that again later. I'm still waiting for an all out fight between Sylar and someone who can fight back.
