Charlie Brown and the Lounge - Part 149

Yeah, Roger had a good run in that area :woot:

As for why he stayed on for Octopussy, part of it had to do with Sean Connery doing his own version Never Say Never Again which was effectively the first step in Kevin McClory's attempt and creating his own Bond franchise to rival EONs. Roger was ready to leave, but he decided along with the various parties involved that a tried and tested Bond like him would do better against the rival Sean Connery picture.

In the end they were right to do so, as Octopussy outperformed the other film and effectively stopped McClory's plans dead in their tracks.

Never Say Never Again was a very strange film IMO.

I do wonder how things would have played out with Brosnan if he could have been given his shot at Bond earlier.

The real shame is how Cassie never got to see him as Bond.

At the very least, Dalton should've gotten a third try at Bond & not just a small footnote. :csad:

True. Still, at least he did one more than Lazenby, and was better received.

I actually like Brosnan's films. Goldeneye & The World Is Not Enough were top notch films. Tomorrow Never Dies was alright, Die Another Day was pretty good, up until they got silly with that invisible car.

I love Goldeneye but if things had worked out for Brosnan the first time, he would have been playing the "darker Bond" as per the screenplays of Dalton's movies. It is interesting to imagine, as I wonder if he would have been any better received than Dalton in that version.

Oh yeah, it seems like it half wants to be a satire on the EON films, and half want to be a serious Thunderball adaptation. But, as much as Max Von Sydow as Blofeld was interesting, I'm incredibly glad McClory's plans died then and there.

Oh, & as long as were discussing Bond, I've thought of another potential actor to replace Craig, once he decides to turn in his "license to kill".

Tom Hardy!!

Pierce Brosnan fought a volcano and won. What other Bond can say that?

Roger Moore infiltrated Africa to liberate a deposed president & fight off an army along with Albus Dumbledore & Richard Burton!!! :sly:

***Bonus Points*** to whoever can name that movie!!

or if half the movies weren't god awfully written. it's not hard to picture brosnan in casino royale it works just fine really.

So damned sad... GoldenEye is a good "soft" re-boot. It's not the greatest thing ever but it was solid, had a personal enemy for Bond and had far, far less excess as compared to Moore's later work. But the Brosnan films needed to have more than just Brosnan going for them and they never bothered with adequate scripts or stories. I always think that the Brosnan Bonds were made by first coming up with a title and then finding someway to make a Bond story around that.

He would have been the most boyish looking of the Bond's at the very least :p

He was young true. Still... I think he could have been a good choice for the post Moore era.

Look I'll just straight up say it, GoldenEye is a top 5 Bond film. It saved the franchise from death and has one of the best (if not THE best) villains in the series. But then afterwards they really just fumbled to build on that and keep things fresh.

did that army have a volcano? no? didn't think so.

A volcano people. A volcano... a lake made of acid... a river of lava that brosnan drove through without a problem... He even saved a dog.

Brosnan > Moore

In Golden Eye you could see they were trying for a more complicated Bond, and getting him in place for a post Cold War pop culture world. Brosnan was a great choice and the pieces were in place in that first film, but like you said, what came after kept going lower and lower in terms of overall quality.

Yes Reek, I get it, you love Brosnan.....moving on......no one knows the movie I mentioned??

I don't love Brosnan... but he did fight a volcano.

Wild Geese. Haven't seen it in ages and ages.

Yep, such a great film!!! When I found out it was coming to blu ray, I snatched that thing up!!! The sequel to it......to put it bluntly, sucked.

The sad thing is, the next three films he did all had a pretty great idea at heart with Tomorrow Never Dies using a media based villain, TWINE having the villain be a woman who uses Bond's charm against him, DAD touching on the current state of North Korea and it's relationship with the rest of the world. They were all great ideas that could have been amazing if they were given more attention and work.

The intro to The World Is Not Enough is just plainly AWESOME!!!! Love the way he jumps out the window!!!!

Totally agree. They could have been really interesting and timely Bond films but sometimes these big franchises, there are so many moving parts ect., that the only way to right the course sometimes is to have the then PTB run the ship aground before anyone can begin to fix things up and get the property moving in the right direction.

I thought those screenplays were only written that way because they'd hired Dalton.

Why nearly? What makes you think he didn't?

It's my number 3.

My top five are:

Casino Royale
Skyfall
GoldenEye
Goldfinger
Licence to Kill

And this is how I rank the Bonds:

Craig
Dalton
Connery
Brosnan
Moore
Lazenby
