'Charmed' Reboot In The Works At CBS

In least they won't reboot an actually good show like buffy, there's potencial with the concept of Charmed actually, they just need to plan it better. Maybe they won't have such a bad problem with consistency this time around.

I'd say that when the show found its groove, probably Shannon's last season up through Rose's first two, it found a perfect balance between the humor and drama along with decently done over-arching storylines that made it perfectly serviceable tv show. Once it turned into the "lets see what whacky hijinks the gals can get into this week!" kinda writing, then it became rather unbearable and dumb, but in the beginning it was a good show.

Season 3 was the best. The show hit its groove by then. The Cole story really worked, especially because Julian and Alyssa have great chemistry. I also think Shannen was a lot better than Rose.

Shame, original show was realy weak, but the concept had potential.

People thought this was still happening? It's been almost a year, and pilot season has passed us by...

Aaaaand, we're back.

After years of rumors and false starts, a Charmed reboot is once again in the TV cauldron, with The CW ordering a one-hour pilot script that is being billed as a prequel-ish reimagining of the beloved WB original. One very promising sign: The project is being shepherded by Jane the Virgin EP Jennie Snyder Urman.

Featuring an all-new cast, I’m hearing the potential series revolves around three witches who are brought together to fight evil in a small New England town circa 1976.

...

Scroll down to check out the unofficial descriptions for the new diverse trio, and then hit the comments with your thoughts!

Tina: African American. Whip-smart, Tina is one dissertation (and one dissertation advisor) away from a PhD. She can be reserved, even standoffish, in uncomfortable situations, but she picks up on everything and she’s definitely making quick, accurate judgments about you.

Paige: Caucasian Cheerful, curvy, wholesome and as all-American as the apple pie she can’t wait to serve to the husband she has yet to marry. Paige’s main goal in life is to marry a rich doctor and be a wife and mother.

Annie: Caucasian. Intense, smart, and quick to anger. She dresses neutrally, though she could give two s–ts if you like her outfit, so stop wondering what “neutral” means. But under that tough façade, well… there is a fragility. A person desperate to be loved, and love.

Lol I don't like the sound of that. Just reboot it with a new set of actors portraying Prue, Piper, Phoebe, and Paige instead of a new set of characters. Or you could make it a continuation with a new generation of Halliwells

Eh. Seems like a bad idea to me. If they wanted a "Charmed" series set in the past, then take it back to the ... 60s and have Penny / Grams as the lead character (before she gave birth to Patricia, the Charmed Ones' mother). Then they could easily have special guest appearances from the original cast members through the magic of time travel (which they did a lot of in the original series).

Otherwise, why not just have a modern day series set in another city. The Charmed Ones rarely did much outside of San Francisco, so there must have been other witches out there battling demons and other magical foes (even if a lot of baddies were specifically targeting the Charmed Ones). That would also open up the possibility of special guest appearances from the original cast members.

Even better, they could have switched things up a bit by having two sisters and a brother as the core "Charmed Ones".

Seems like they just want to use the Charmed name for visibility.

I'm less disinterested because of how they handle the Charmed "mythology"/etc. and more disinterested because I feel like the network having one witch show might discourage them from launching a Sabrina show out of Riverdale at any point.

Well logically you would hope to attract former viewers of a show when you reboot something and give yourself a built in audience. However when you toss out the main thing from the original show(3 sisters who happen to be witches) you throw it all away. They could have avoided this by some of the other ideas involving the Warren line but this makes no sense.

They will have to find a whole new audience which defeats the purpose of a reboot in the first place. If you wanted to make a show sort of maybe like another show, then don't reboot just make your own show. It would work better as fans of the old show would not be disinterested at best to angry at worst about what the reboot does.

I watched the first season of Charmed. I liked the idea of it, but not the carry through. The stories were soft, the cleavage was over-abundant (which is by no means a bad thing) and all the endings were anti-climactic with a hand-wave and a rhyme...

That being said, change the name from Charmed and give it a fresh start without the old baggage. I may give it a try...

Or alter it by revealing two decades earlier they befriended a sorceress who agreed to share her power in return for their friendship but three of them literally backstabbed the sorceress who escaped leaving them with their powers intact but afraid of the sorceress coming back for revenge.

Each one has elemental powers, air, earth, fire and water but they've become besotted with gaining greater power little realising the danger they're placing themselves in!

So rather than heroic make it appear they're becoming villainous but with only a couple of them even considering marrying or getting into relationships they're slowly turning on each other seeking to steal the others powers.

So first season we see them as adults then learn in flashbacks about their past eventually revealing the sorceress did survive but is more concerned with her former friends children as they have the potential to become powerful sorcerors like her which was her original intent.

So the show eventually focuses on their heirs who end up trying to protect their lives as one of the original four becomes the threat they assumed the sorceress was.

CW's 'Charmed,' 'Lost Boys' Reboots Will Be Redeveloped Next Season (Exclusive)
With little room on its schedule, the network is sticking with six pilot orders this season — even with last year. While neither The Lost Boys nor Charmed were among the orders, both hail from important producers to the network in Rob Thomas (iZombie) and Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin).

Sources say the Charmed draft didn't come in the way the network had hoped and that Urman, who remains busy wrapping up the third season of the Gina Rodriguez critical darling didn't have the proper time to commit to it this season. Urman will take on a larger role in retooling Charmed for next season once she's out of the woods on showrunning Jane. Jane writers Jessica O'Toole and Amy Rardin penned the script this season.

Nah Sonic first. :o

Not feeling Urman's proposal. If set in 1976, make it about the sisters mother and grandmother. No one will give a **** about three randoms who aren't the Haliwells

The majority of the people who will watch this reboot, if indeed it ends up getting ordered to series, will never have seen the original show in the first place.

Charmed is one of Netflixs top shows so I wouldnt be surprised if a good amount of viewers knew about the first series.
