The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Chris Cooper IS Norman Osborn

Please god no Ultimate Gobby...616 all the way.
This is their chance to right the wrongs of the Spider Man 1 GG costume.

I'm almost 90% sure that they are going to go with Ultimate Goblin. Just the way they did the Lizard, and the genetic mutations that were in the video game.

They could easily do a hybrid of the Ultimate and 616 Goblin. Perhaps he transforms into a Goblin-esque creature, but still uses a glider and pumpkin bombs like the classic.

I doubt we'll see a full-on transformation Goblin in TASM2, it seems to similar to the Lizard. Two villains in a row, both scientists, that transform into green monsters? No way.

hope not. that's lazy imo. oscorp surely have other r&d departments; they aren't just a cross species genetics corporation.

green goblin could be a super soldier type experiment that derives from science outside of animal dna tampering. rhino could be a guy in a suit (robotic?) to showcase the tech/engineering arm of the company.

oscorp is intended to be a tower of babel of sorts, so i don't see the harm in them having their proverbial fingers in many different pots.

ps. the less said about the video game story the better. i don't consider it canon.

I don't think so. I think Webb and Sony know fans want the classic Goblin design and that that would be cooler in a movie than another giant green monster on screen. I don't think the cross-species genetics thing is going to be the answer to Norman's illness, it will just be a step towards it. It's more about the decay rate algorithm and how Peter is immune to it than the cross-species genetics itself.

All this to say, I think we will be seeing an OZ formula that is more faithful to 616 than Ultimate...as it should be really, since if Norman takes it you would figure it would be a perfect solution, or at least one that does not transform him physically.

Not a bad likeness, especially around the eyes.

I hope they go for the classic Green Goblin, since anything else simply would be stupid. There is so much more potential storywise with a costumed Green Goblin.

Not to mention a mutated Gobby would be a rape of the character.

What would be interesting is if they went down the road of the Goblin being less evil than Norman himself.
The Goblin persona is a result of his ego, that ultimate step in which he expresses his contempt for the rules of society and decides to become a criminal simply because he can.

And whilst, as the Goblin, he may be jovial and playful, Osborn is cruel, vindictive and suffering from extreme schizophrenia (Hallucinations and delusions).

The Goblin is a way for Norman to have fun, but he's far, far more monstrous without the mask.

As much as I personally don't love this idea, I think you'll see all kinds of genetic testing, creating Rhino, Vulture, maybe a couple others in the same way as the Lizard. Then in the end you'll have Norman get pumped with them all and create a version of Ultimate Goblin. I think similarly to Abomination in TIH. Combining too many formulas and it going horribly.

side note, if they go that route, I wouldn't mind seeing a Carnage creation, if they could get it in the series without it feeling shoehorned in like Venom in SM3. That's the biggest fear of course.

I love this casting. Cooper is always great.
I agree, I like this choice. The casting of the reboot was spot on, and to me, it so far points to follow up success for the sequel.

I think Norman 'dying' from his disease and having a funeral near the start would be interesting. With Harry talking about his father to Peter, and Cooper appearing via flashback, talking of his struggle etc. And then in the third movie...

A lot of things in this series will be tied to cross species genetics and decay rate algorithm. Mostly the villains of course. I just don't see how you can do Gobby with the classic face with a rubber mask instead of transformation.

I know Osborn likes masks but yeah.

No need to go Ultimate, just become a superpowered, warped, menacing and sickly looking man. They'll avoid covering up the actors face like they did with Dafoe.

^That's because you're not imaginative enough. I hope Webb proves to be better than that and use Gobby to his full potential.

I see, I thought you meant that would be the best thing to do. My apologies then

No worries. I would actually love for Osborn to wear the mask in some form or another.

Green, purple, pumpkin bombs I'm all for it.

i think webb actually pays attention to what fans like/dislike. i view the new suit as proof of that. bc ultimate goblin is hugely unpopular i highly doubt he will go that route. and just bc some of you can imagine a good or convincing 616 goblin doesnt mean it cant be done. its hollywood; they put some of the greatest makeup artists/costume designers on creating this stuff. me personally; i think he could wear a latex mask that moves with his face and can show emotion.he should wear a green and gray body armor with a purple tattered hood and tunic. i watch alot of "face/off" so i dont see why someone couldnt make a convincing and truly frightening goblin

Totally disagree....Webb is just as likely, if not more incline, to go ultimately with GG than classic. IMO, that what he's setting up with trans-species genectics. He virtually made an intelligently, thinking, calculating, humanoid Lizard...what make you think he won't do the same with a man who's despirately seeking to extend his life, even if it means, taking a concoction of experimental trans-species genectic(TSG) material, creating what can only be describe as a Goblin of some sort.

I just don't think he will be Hulk-Like, as in the Ultimate.

It's still a compromise too far. Glider and pumpkin bombs are just tools he uses, they don't inform his character. GG is a separate personality, not a transformation into a flaming green rage monster. Making him smaller is just making Ultimate Goblin smaller, he's still a different character to 616 Goblin.

The ASM films need to keep the ideal of the man behind the mask and the madness and not the gimmick of the Hulk Goblin.

This, very much this!!

How would you guys feel if Norman used his original broomstick glider instead of his more traditional design?
I think the broomstick would be far more unnerving, playing up the Goblin as a manifestation of all of Normans childhood fears - the last part of his humanity trying to poke through.

No. Just no. The broomstick glider is ugly and dumb. I see what you're trying to go for, but I want nothing of it. :oldrazz:

I wouldn't mind seeing a hint of homage to it, for an example, a novel of myths & mysteries with a picture of a witch, or in this case, a goblin riding a magical broom, laying on a desk next to an computer with drawings & proto-types of the glider on the screen.

I agree. One of the things they did get right about Goblin's look in Raimi's film was the glider design, I thought. I wouldn't mind another modern take on the glider concept that looks like it could exist in the real world (somewhat).
