The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Chris Cooper IS Norman Osborn

Idk if its just me, but the choice of CC as Norman, I still can't picture him as the actual Goblin and in fight sequences.
Neither can I....I'm still wrestling with his casting as NO, aka, ykw.

As far as the Goblin to use....I prefer the mask because of the "intent". I think Webb can easily explain the use by mixing a little "Ultimate" in the mix("cocktale" of different cross-genectic material) by having him take the mix, it enhance his natural abilities like the Lizard(speed, strength, agility, reflexes, and some healing power(not as fast as the Lizard; but, certainly faster than a normal human); yet, have him slightly disfigure in the face and one of his shoulder & arm....enough to make him wish to cover up this deformity to wear a costume or "shawl and glove" and a mask. Have Spidey able to discern these deformity through the mask & costume; but, unable to recognize who it can be....so when he see the Norman Osborn side, with no visble deformity(unlike Connors who has scales clearly visble on his neck), but some hint of battle scars or injury in certain location of the body on Norman after they battle(like Norman recognize the cut on Peter in "Spider-Man")it may be confusing and mysterious as to who could really be the Goblin(how the debate was in TSSM animation). Play on the character and mystery...as Harry may show sign of both injury and maybe a rash.

Just one way I would do to maintain some sense of realism and actual possibility...hey, this could happen.

I heard he's an awesome villain in the Muppets Reunion
Didn't see that movie

I figure they will likely have the Goblin's look as a mutation rather than a mask, resulting from Osborn's life being saved by whatever genetic tomfoolery is used, but I'd prefer they went with the mask myself.

Raimi did at least consider a more comics faithful mask:

(how do you inbed youtube links here, btw?)

No idea why he didn't develop that one (would have changed the eyes is all) and see no reason why Webb can't employ something similar.

He can, but I think it's something fanboys are going to have to fight for first.

How does a genetic experiment create a goblin creature?

Well, they have established that Peter's father and Connors work was all about cross-species DNA manipulation, so there's no reason they need be limited to one species for whatever is used to cure Osborn of whatever it is he is suffering from.

The green skin could come from reptilian or amphibian DNA. The huge ears could come from Bats, and so on.

Not saying I want that (I don't, I'd rather Norman be a crazy SOB and wears the mask as that he how he sees himself in his Goblin persona) but some form of physical cross species mutation would be in keeping with what was revealed in TASM.

Here's another one (I had not seen this one before and it shows how it works. The faces he pulls nearer the end are wicked):

I completely agree with the bolded part!

Whoa this video is truly awesome! Especially, as you said, the end of it. I haven't seen it before! I really dislike how the hat is too short and the green is too light but other than that it's freaking great!

Why on earth didn't go with that it's brilliant?! See, this is why Spider-Man needs better producers, if he had, they would have went with this, even improved upon it and used it.

Just make Green Goblin scarier. But the technology itself for the mask is brilliant!

The only thing i didn't like so much was the eyes, but the rest was fantastic.

Yeah, it's cool, but it's not a matter of needing better producers. Ultimately Sam thought that the moving mask, though more emotive, didn't make sense, not only considering the militaristic, body armour design of the goblin's suit, but inasmuch as how or why the mask would move with Osborns own facial expressions. Is it glued to his face or what?

Have you ever tried on a rubber mask? did it move whenever you made an expression? No. And what purprose would Osborn have for developing one that did?

Yes, it's unrealistic and so is a boy crawling on walls, but we don't have spider powers in our world. We do have rubber masks and we know how they do and do not work.

So those are the reasons they didn't use the moving mask. Not just because they weren't "good producers" lol.

wow this is excellent...I hope they go this route somewhat visually

This is about the dumbest thing I've ever read, who exactly would care about the mask being able to move with Norman's facial expression? Ever watch Mission:Impossible, when Tom Cruise takes off his mask of another person, and it's a pretend mask that moves with his facial expressions. Yet, no one gave a damn. This idea is 20 times better than what we got. And I think it should be improved upon in detail and used.

So Spider-Man's producers were bad, and unfortunately, they still are.

Wow. Tact. You have none. Sorry that you think it's "the dumbest thing you've ever read", but that was Raimi's decision and it makes sense given the militaristic, battle ready nature of the costume.

Not saying a mask is *impossible* to do well, but it would be extremely difficult to pull off especially with the exaggerated, grotesque features of the goblin.

It is possible to do both the suit and the mask well, but the producers and director always seem to take the easy way out. Just slap a ridiculous looking mask on him and let's go to lunch. This is exactly why the Green Goblin looked so awful on the set, in posters and on screen. You can keep the military suit, just have it redesigned better, and the mask need not be apart of the actual body armor.

It wasn't about taking the easy way out. How can you even say that given that they obviously tried several different options. Believe it or not, a lot of time, thought and effort goes into costume design whether or not you can tell or like it (As with the TASM costume).

What they went with in Spider-Man was what they thought worked best for the story- and though it's the popular consesus to hate it, I thought it worked rather well for what it meant to accomplish.

Yeah, and that was over 10 years ago!

I'm sure that the tech will have advanced for an even wider range of expressionm while also being comfortable for the actor to wear.

It could have looked good and still worked best for the story, that's what I'm getting at here. That is, if you're willing not to make excuses for poor decision making. The suit looked silly and child-friendly, that's my biggest problem with it, it looked cute. I'm saying take what they have in these videos, make it even more detailed, use various techniques in lighting and go from there.

Here's how you're wrong though.

Raimi REALLY wanted to use the version in that video. However, Willem Dafoe was felt too uncomfortable in it and refused to let a stunt man play goblin in suit.

So in order to please Dafoe, they changed it to what we got. Had it not been for him, we would've gotten that mask, more or less as well as a more ghastly, goblinesque armor.

That was same excuse employed for dropping the web shooters, wasn't it? It didn't make sense to him that a kid could invent something so ingenious so he ditched them.

And the expressive mask can work with a militaristic suit, if that suit is modified to match. I mean, Norman created a Goblin helmet for that thing, why stop the motif there? If he went with an expressive mask he could have adorned that body armour with whatever was needed to carry the image over, rather than just giving it a nice green paint job.

If we want a mask, most of us have to settle for something off the shelf somewhere, as none of us have the smarts or resources that Norman has.

And what purprose would Osborn have for developing one that did?

Why make a Goblin style helmet at all? Why make pumpkin bombs? Bat shaped razor boomerang type things?

They guys a crazy genius that's why. Making a clever mask is actually more realistic imo than a foot standing jet glider. I mean they could and did make that mask for real with real world tech over 10 years ago. I don't think we are gonna be seeing those nifty gliders anytime soon.

Yes, it's unrealistic and so is a boy crawling on walls, but we don't have spider powers in our world. We do have rubber masks and we know how they do and do not work.

And we know Norman's more than smart enough to make something more sophisticated than a basic rubber halloween mask.

Seriously, I don't really get this one. If Batman can have racoon eye make-up mysteriously appear and disappear in an instant, Clark Kent is still getting by fooling people with his glasses, and a 1940's Red Skull can wear an expressive human mask without issue, I see no reason any audience will get hung up on how the Golbin's mask is supposed to work.

Willing 'suspension of disbelief' is a bit of a pre-requisite for CBM's.

So those are the reasons they didn't use the moving mask. Not just because they weren't "good producers" lol.
Imo, I'd guess it was 2 things. 1) They maybe thought giving the goblin full facial expression would be a little detrimental to the basically expressionless Spider-Man (in all but the final scenes they are both masked in their confrontations) and 2) The rigid mask was quite simply a lot easier for them to work with.

Whatever the reasons, I'm sure they made what they thought was the best call at the time, but for a lot of fans, they really should have gone with the other option.

Maybe Webb will, time will tell I guess.

the lack of a traditional goblin costume, especially the mask and hood, makes it more likely webb will go that route.

or he could go full ****** and do ultimate goblin who shoots fireballs and jumps everywhere. kind like a cross between bowser and fire-mario.

Ah, that's news to me. Explains a lot (certainly more plausible than the 'doesn't make sense' excuse).

So it was a trade off basically. Give the actor (who was great as Norman) what he wanted or be forced to recast.

i hate cgi overuse, but these days a cgi goblin mask could work i feel.
