Honestly, if you think about it It's not that terrible

In a realistic world where Bruce Wayne is widely recognized - Making your voice sound monstrous is the only way to diguise yourself.. and strike fear

If you were stealing a TV and heard that voice in the Darkness you would crap your pants

Every other Batman has had a slightly whispering version of their Bruce Wayne voice, when they wear the mask they either sound the same or become menacing - where as Bale becomes Monstrous - a figure of fear

I challenge you guys to talk to someone you know in your best portrayal of a Batman Voice and see if they dont recognize you, Throw a little hoarseness in it and you will be unkown

Sign if you Like or dont mind Bale's Batman Portrayal

I never had a problem with Bale's voice.

I have always thought that Bale nailed the Batman voice. After Conroy who has the definative Batman voice, Bale comes in a close second.

I've always liked the voice as well.

I really liked Bale's voice from BB. His Batman voice in TDK seemed forced at times. Not to mention it seemed as if he was drunk in certain scenes. If I had to choose one over the other it would be from BB.

Not matter what, it's second compared to Conroy.:brucebat:

I love his voice, and I agree it's the best way to disguise the Bruce persona, apart from the mask. Makes him the monster Batman should be.

I Loved his voice in TDK but IMO I think the BB voice was better.

His voice in TDK allowed him to speak quieter...I think that's the only reason it was really changed...

I thought there'd be a slight change in the way he did it for the sequel. I could swear after BB I read that his voice was shot to hell because of the strain. The pre-TDK rounds had him remarking that he'd gotten more comfortable with it.

Either way, I like the 'animal' quality to it.

I noticed after watching both films...There was never a time in BB where Bale could speak quieter/softer with the voice...In TDK there were times where he could keep the growl but make it softer...

And I also noticed that Bale sticks his lower jaw out when he talks...Kinda weird...

There are a few scenes he seems "drunk" because he is either struggling or is hurt.. like when he gets restabbed in the gut by Joker and replying to his Unstoppable Force speech

You have to push the voice in noisy situations where it recquires projection

like in BB.. Gordon: "Ill get my car"

BM: "I brought mine!"

sounded real forced - tough to maintain the voice and project

I remember seeing a scan from some book, maybe the art of the Dark Knight, where it showed the cowl and the caption mentioned how it had a built in device to magnify his voice. I don't think people would have such a big problem with it if that was explained in either film.

That might have been my favorite Batman line in the film.

We should make this the Christian's Bale Voice Appreciation Thread. :brucebat:

I agree emphatically. I've loved it ever since BB. I've always hated the fact that people dislike it just because of the way it sounds -to those who think so, imagine Batman talking exactly like Wayne - it would just look weird, and it would definitely not be threatening.

I loved his voice and even more that you could tell he sounded more an more tired as the ending of TDK was going on. After everything hed been through emotionally and physically he was worn out an you could tell in his voice. People really don't give him enough credit to do his American accent and THEN be able to do a voice for Batman.

Yeah I've never really had a problem with the voice, I even feel like sometimes in BB that the voice was underdone and sounded too much like Bale at times. For the most part, the voice was almost flawless in TDK. One of my favorite scenes is Batman showing up to stop Dent from interrogating Schiff in the alley. If you listen to his voice during that scene its just great :brucebat:

His voice has grown on me too much at this point to really dislike it any way. I picture his V.O. whenever I read a Batman Graphic Novel. Its excellent.

I'm not sure why every time a discussion on this begins, people always meld two different arguments into one. A popular retort to those that don't like the Batman voice is: "What do you expect, Bruce to use his regular voice? That's stupid. He has to disguise it."

Here's how I see it:

1) The concept/idea of masking your voice to conceal an identity
2) The execution of above concept, presented in aural form

9 times outta 10, the remarks are most obviously referring to point 2. NOT 1. So why are people mixing this up?

love his voice....it gets a little extreme at times, ("these people just showed you they are ready to believe in good" didnt like the line or his voice) but i think it is realistic to what someone would do...plus the way bale is portraying the entire character is interesting, its like hes an aware schizophrenic who can switch modes when he wants... i loved it when bruce comes and chokes out harvey (party scene) and while talking to rachel you can hear him like getting pissed off and his voice changing. love it.

Well, I think it has more to do with strengthening the argument rather mixing up two ideas but I understand what you are trying to say.

They actually digitally modified his voice in TDK, so it's even deeper than it was throughout BB. Personally, I don't mind it. In a number of places, I outright love it. It makes sense to disguise his voice and also put fear into the criminals.
