Christopher Eccleston is playing Malekith

theres pictures of him now fighting Thor one on one, i don't know much about Malekith other than his showing on EMH but i feel like he should stand less of a chance against Thor than Loki in a physical battle. maybe this will be the first battle they have and Malekith gets whipped which causes him to create Kurse?

Big Thor what do you think? is Malekith supposed to pose a physical threat?

he's supposed to be more of a magical threat. once he's all CGI'd maybe they will show him using force fields and magic to hurt Thor. notice he's unarmed and a couple pictures he appears to be jesturing.

Yeah, Malekith looks like your basic constipated bad guy. Very curious to see what kind of CG they're going to do around his eyes, though --- it's *got* to be more than just "oooh, look, glowing eyes!" They wouldn't need CG ping-pong balls for that....it seems to suggest some sort of....I dunno, movement. Maybe as part of his facial scarring/burning (from whatever), part of his face is rotting or missing, like Two-Face in TDK.

But right now, the cannon-fodder Dark Elf masks definitely look a lot more menacing than Malekith himself does.

See i think the normie-elves look a little power-ranger-ish to me right now, what were they called, "putties"?
Although I'm sure they'll look sweet in the film itself

And I think the CG has to be maybe a more pronounced brow or something to that effect, otherwise, why not just do it with make-up...

Eh, one on one Thor shouldn't have an issue dealing with Malekith. Kurse is the problem

I think what we need to do is just calm down a bit here and keep our heads. We can't judge anything by grainy still images. You can't judge how they'll look on film and move in the context of the finished product.

The elves' masks look like the Dr. Who Cybermen. Nice irony.

Nope in the comics Malekith was never even close to being a physical threat for Thor, he always resorts to artifacts or trickery.

Right.

Malekith is able to transform himself in a seven foot huntsman, but even in that form it didn't take Thor too long to defeat him.

Malekith has a great design in the film. Grounded but still over the top without being too silly.

The look they opted for the Dark Elves isn't bad...were they from any other mythos. Unfortunately, Malekith now resembles nothing more than a LOTR elf gone bad and when you take the original character into consideration the redesign fails. I would have moved away from the jester/glam rocker look certainly but I would have kept enough elements to make him visually striking. The skin should be a pale blue-white for starters, the hair even when pulled back a lot longer and the costume should be more baroque/ornate as befits a sorcerer. The eyes on his henchmen's masks should also be elliptical. That would make them look more alien and menacing like so:

Sure didn't, it's safe to say that Loki usually fairs MUCH better against Thor than Malekith.

we got an elf fanboy it seems :P
A very KNOWLEDGABLE Elf fan.

Aeliri! how ya doin' !? lol Long time no see! Tell the guys at the Immortal thor boards happy Turkeyday!

I love the look, but I'm really hoping with the CG they add in the black half of his face, I hope to see the red and black robe or cloak as well.

LOL, in a new Total Film article, Eccleston apparently says that good scripts are "paramount" in his selection process for movie roles.

Come on now, Chris. There is NO WAY IN HELL you looked at the script for G.I. Joe and thought, "Oh my! What an amazing story full of complex characters! I must take this part!"

Just admit that sometimes, a paycheck is a paycheck.

Well, the GI Joe movie wasn't that bad. It captured the goofiness of the cartoon series pretty well. I found it rather entertaining. But I still can't accept the fact that they didn't pair up Duke and Scarlet. I mean they were always a pair on the cartoon.

Well, Scarlett's supposed to be Snake-Eye's girlfriend according to the comics and more recent productions, so two fandoms got gypped thanks to RipCord.

And G.I.Joe was clearly a fun movie, and maybe that's what Eccleston means. Regardless of the cartooniness of the plot just about everyone was having a ball playing a real-life action figure, but they still had some very good acting from Eccleston and most of the bad-guys. I think you'd be hard pressed to find an actor who enjoys being goofy and villainous who'd turn down that script.

Yep, I really enjoyed the GI Joe movie myself though Covergirl really got scrimped in the film what with her dying and all, nasty Zartan.
