Just saw Legend of the Guardians of G'Hoole.

This film might turn out to be Snyders' best overall so far.

The film also shows us why he should be considered to direct the next Superman movie and work with the Nolans and Goyer!

Goyer, the Nolans, and Snyder as the potential creative team behind The Man Of Steel film = A DYNAMIC filmmaking team for Superman.

An Aronofsky helmed Superman film intrigues me. He's not the first director I would have thought of for Superman given his sensibilities, but I would still be extremely curious as to what he would do.

Portman can bring more sass than Bosworth did IMO but if they want to go for a more world worn Lois with more size? they are going to need an older Supes to balance it out and avoid Supes and the Cougar jokes.

Ok, I've just read all the online publications about this, and I'm still shocked. I'm a tremendous fan of Aronofsky, and would be really interested in seeing his version of Superman, but after "The Wrestler" and "Black Swan", I just can't believe that Arofosky would be interested in doing this huge budget, mainstream franchise film. Even more astounding is that WB is considering him because I thought they were going for a more controllable director, which Aronofksy is not.

the executive producer still holds a lot of power. Spielberg was executive producer for Transformers and much of it's success was due to him. it seems to me that Nolan will be helping with some of the writing as he's already gotten Goyer to dish out a screenplay.

It varies from situation from situation. EPs can have influence like we're seeing with Nolan or they can just be a marketing gimmick to attach a big name to a film for street cred (you see it with Wes Craven quite often) or they can be a studio exec's secretary and that credit was her Christmas bonus.

Nolan was the replacement for Aronofsky when he left Year One, so it would be ironic if he got the job. Stylistically, both Nolan and Aronofsky are uncannily similar. My only worry is that it would be too high concept and turn into the same situation as The Fountain. WB took a massive hit with The Fountain and might not want to risk it again.

I wouldn't have been disappointed by Affleck, he's proving to be an excellent director. He probably blew it in the interview by saying something like "well, Chris, I got this friend, Kevin, who wrote a..." And Nolan said "NEXT!"

Looking at this continuing list of candidates, I'm becoming much more optimistic this film. Back in the day, we had some really awful names flying around. Ratner, McG, Bay, Rob Cohen, and Dominic Sena. It makes me happy that WB is really looking for talented storytellers, and not the blow 'em up action directors.

WB already took a big risk on Aronofsky with the Fountain and it didn't pay off. They eventually ceased production of the film in 2002 because of the escalating budget and had to auction off sets. They only resurrected the project in 2004 to recover for their losses.

Nolan may want Aronofski, but WB has had some problems with him in the past. With this in mind, it would be smarter to hire someone like Duncan Jones for cheap with the same amount of risk.

Portman is a very tiny girl, I saw her at the Indy Spirits a couple years ago, she has to be about 5' max.

I guess it does give them more flexibility in their search for Superman though. They'll have a lot easier time finding a capable actor and making him look 6'4" 225lbs next a female lead of Portman's frame than they will trying find an actor who is actually 6'+, with a large frame and also happens to be a capable actor.

I've lost all faith in Kevin Smith after I saw A Couple of *****, I mean Cop Out. It was up there with Episode II as one of the worst movies I've seen. Kevin Smith, in his prime, did write an excellent treatment for Superman Lives! But that is now behind him. He should go on a hiatus from Directing and re-evaluate his career.

With Nolan onboard, wasn't it a given that this would have a darker/gritty tone? Nolan isn't known for making light-hearted films. Personally, I think Joe Dante should finally have a shot at making a Superman film. He's been in bed with WB for a long time and has background experience with this sort of production.
