Christopher Nolan Meeting With Directorial Candidates

you have to be in cuckoo land to think that daniel day lewis is going to do a comic book film.

not a chance. he is way to pompous to do a movie like superman, he is far too up his own tight backside, that he is living in his own dreamworld, he seriously needs to get over himself.

one movie a year would be enough, but instead, ddl is a right picky sod, who would probably make going to the toilet into an epic 3 hour oscar winning saga.

in fact right now, i would say there's more chance of Elvis playing lex luthor than daniel day lewis making a movie anytime soon
Yeah, he's so stuck-up only wanting to do the best job possible.

If Nolan goes with a director like Aronofsky, Nolan's producer role would likely be very minimal. That's probably a good thing because he has a certain other franchise to tend to right now. I kinda hope that's how it turns out. With a Snyder or Jones type, Nolan would probably have to be pretty involved. In the case of Snyder, it would be to keep him from doing stupid stuff. In the case of Jones, it would be to help him handle the scale of the project since Jones doesn't have any experience with big budget movies. The more involved with the Superman project, the less involved he can be with BB3. I really want that superhero trilogy curse to go down in flames, so we need his full attention on Bats.

I don't see how wanting to do the best job possible makes Daniel Day-Lewis stuck up. I don't think he has an ego about it, or looks down on people who do blockbuster movies. In past interviews he has been complimentary about blockbusters, even superhero movies, from the perspective of a viewer, but simply says that as a performer they're not for him. As an actor he's perenially in a state of semi-retirement, and taking on a role is a major commitment for him, so he only takes on the parts that really appeal to him and really feel like a challenge. I'd say that's admirable, not stuck-up. Even if it is disappointing that it means we'll never see him kick ass in a comic book movie.

Darren Aronofsky is a genius, one of the finest directors working today. Is Superman a bit out of his usual wheelhouse? Yes. But all the same, his involvement would the project would instantly put this film right up to near the top of my "most anticipated" list.

Hey, you never know what can happen.....

That's a good point. It's ludicrous to expect someone of his calibre to be in a comic book film.

It's almost as ridiculous as expecting Marlon Brando, Gene Hackman, Jackie Cooper, Glenn Ford, Jack Nicholson, Michael Gough, Billy Dee Williams, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Ken Watanabe, Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Liam Neeson, Ian McKellan, Patrick Stewart, Anthony Hopkins, Jeff Bridges, William Hurt, Frank Langella, Terrence Stamp and so many other high calibre actors to be in comic book movies. It's just really hard to see!

Oh well, we can always dream :awesome:

You forgot Dolph Lundgren... Not cool.

Why would you want to bring somebody on board you have to babysit? The only reason you would do that is if you WANT them to be a puppet and so your ideas will be theirs. I assume Nolan don't wanna go that route, though.

I agree!

NON-NEWS: The pre-announcing of the announcing of the announcement announcing.

El May of Latino Review took his 'WB' source out to a club. While Nolan hasn't pick his director yet, and it seems the source doesn't even know where Nolan stands on the choices, BUT El May is confident that Latino Review will beat out the competition for the news. Of course, that means it'll come SOONER rather than later if it went through the trades. (ie leaked out)

ala twitter:

Tonight at Troublesome Tuesday at Trousdale: I take my top WB source out to solve the riddle of the Superman directors.

@firstshowing I know Nolan hasn't decided but when he does, I'm gonna be all over it before the competition.

Drunk source @ Trousdale: "When Nolan decides whose gonna direct Superman, you'll know before he goes home & tells his wife!"

It would be funny if Matt Reeves got it because then we'd be continuing the legacy of Superman having someone named Reeve / Reeves invovled-- George Reeves and Chrisotpher Reeve who each played Superman, and then Matt Reeves directing Man of Steel. Heheheh.

When you put it like that, you make me think this whole scoop is bull, and some lazy journo just inserted Matt Reeve's name for the reasons you mentioned!

Not to steal the thunder here, but wouldn't that be impossible since she's the other exec producer?

Good to see they're continuing with announcing upcoming announcements. I can sleep easy tonight. :hehe:

Side note, I thought Chris and Emma weren't married.

They've been married since the late '90s.

I only responded to this post cuz I love your avatar..."Gerome's in the hou-oo-ou-oo-ou-oo-LOOK AT THE WHITE SHOES!" Classic!

How about Robert Zemeckis for Superman

Deadline Article
EXCLUSIVE
: It has been a decade since Robert Zemeckis last directed a live action film, the classic Cast Away. It has been 25 years since he launched the time travel trilogy Back to the Future. I'm told that Zemeckis is plotting a return to both folds at Warner Bros, where he is at the center of a deal for the time travel pitch Timeless. It's a big tent pole picture that will be written by Mike Thompson. Zemeckis and his ImageMovers will produce. Deal is mid six-figures. Zemeckis and Image Movers have been cozy-ing up with Warner Bros since Disney shuttered its Marin County animation facility ImageMovers Digital earlier this year. Even though Zemeckis once seemed comfortable directing pictures exclusively in the 3D performance capture process he pioneered in Polar Express, Beowulf, A Christmas Carol and the upcoming Beatles pic Yellow Submarine, Zemeckis has lately been rumored to be kicking the tires on such live action projects as Superman.

Hmmm, as long as its live action I'd be cool with Zemeckis. He's handled all types of movies so yea, do it!

After hearing all of these top notch names, I can't help but feel when it finally comes out, it'll be Brett Ratner.
