Christopher Nolan Meeting With Directorial Candidates

Or Goyer himself.

I dont think we'll completely disappointed though.

At this point every director is being suggested at some point or another. I do think though that Nolan probably has a final list and its only between 2 or 3 people because he really has to start dealing with batman and I'm sure once they choose a superman director he would like to be involved with some stuff.

How about Robert Zemeckis for Superman

Deadline Article
EXCLUSIVE
: It has been a decade since Robert Zemeckis last directed a live action film, the classic Cast Away. It has been 25 years since he launched the time travel trilogy Back to the Future. I'm told that Zemeckis is plotting a return to both folds at Warner Bros, where he is at the center of a deal for the time travel pitch Timeless. It's a big tent pole picture that will be written by Mike Thompson. Zemeckis and his ImageMovers will produce. Deal is mid six-figures. Zemeckis and Image Movers have been cozy-ing up with Warner Bros since Disney shuttered its Marin County animation facility ImageMovers Digital earlier this year. Even though Zemeckis once seemed comfortable directing pictures exclusively in the 3D performance capture process he pioneered in Polar Express, Beowulf, A Christmas Carol and the upcoming Beatles pic Yellow Submarine, Zemeckis has lately been rumored to be kicking the tires on such live action projects as Superman.

Ron Howard is my top choice, Zemeckis is a close 2nd...so i'd LOVE for him to tackle the project. not only can he handle the action portion, he's awesome with character development and emotional scenes as well.

Even though he might be a contender, I can't see him getting it.

While I am a huge supporter of Jones, if Zemeckis got it I would definitely not be disappointed. He is one of those directors that has always been toward the top of my wish list but assumed he might be too big of a director to tackle the Superman franchise.

I think it comes down to the asking price and the chemistry. Does Nolan want old school, or does he want new school? Whatever that can make a Superman work, I guess.

Zemeckis doing Superman would make my year.

If Zemeckis gets on board for Superman, I will piss my pants with joy, as should all of you.

He has always been my dream director for this project.

What's really interesting here are the fairly radical directions the film could go visually and conceptually with all of these different flavors of directors in the mix.

If anything, this really speaks volumes about what kind of producer Nolan is, not leaving any stone unturned. What a breath of fresh air for this thing. This past week has been extremely positive, in my humble opinion.

I wonder what the interview process is like. I'm sure that some of these guys could bring in their own concept art or video on how they want to make it. Not just a lunch meeting at a cafe.

And IMO it speaks volumes about what kind of film we're going to get and the content of the script itself. I'm pretty sure each of these directors are suited for the project in it's own way, so judging by their profiles it's safe to assume that the script has a deep and complex psychological writing combined with stunning action sequences.

Agreed. I would love to be able to sit in on some of those meetings.

I don't know what the deadline is, but I'm guessing it'll be the DC announcement later this month. IF Nikkie Finke is right, of course. That means that he has less than 3 weeks to figure things out.

At this point, I think it is safe to say we will get a fantastic film. I truly believe that. It's just a question now of what flavor we'll end up with.

I was going to make an ice cream analogy here, but I just don't think it's fitting, as I will undoubtedly be bombarded with questions like "Well, do more toppings equal a better film (sundae)?" or "Is Christopher Nolan's film really an ice cream, or more of a rich, creamy gelato?"

And who would forget "So what kind of ice cream is Michael Bay/M Knight Shamalamadingdong/ Uwe Boll?"

The answer, is of course, none of the above. They're all variations of those cheap slurpees you pick up last minute at 7/11, which are immediately followed by a crushing headache and sometimes nausea.

As I mentioned forever ago in another thread, my sources indicated we'd get definitive Batman and Superman news sooner than later, as they wanted to piggy back other announcements on with B3 via the trades. (So far, that's exactly what's happening).

My guess was October. I still stand by that estimate, and apparently so does Nikkie Finke. But, everyone knows, anything can and usually does happen at that studio.

Two of those names were btw very seriously considered in the past by WB *shudder*...

Must say that the Nolan list is more like trying to choose between Haagen Dazs and Ben&Jerrys... I'd eat both if I could...

I think he wants someone that sees eye-to-eye with his and Goyer's vision of Superman. Once he finds that person that will make his producing job a lot easier and he'll be able to step back.

I'm sure that a guy like Arononsky would want to clean up the dialog though. Nothing against Goyer, unless he put his heart and soul into the script, he's great with structure and pacing, but his dialog can be uneven. And his humor tends to fall flat.

Zemeckis would be perfect so i'm not even gonna dare hope.

"It'll be an honor to take on Superman..again". - - Future Brett Rather

I think even Nolan would LOL at that.
