I'm just happy that article more or less confirms Nolan is directing Batman 3 and that Jonathan Nolan is currently writing the screenplay. That's just awesome in itself.

Mods feel free to merge this thread with the Christopher Nolan Is Doing Batman 3!!! if it covers the same topic

Finally, some solid word from the man himself. Looking EXTREMELY forward to his conclusion of the trilogy. I'll say this though. Nolan, if you ever had plans to bring back the Joker for a "supporting villain" role or bit part, do it now. As Rorschach says, "Won't get second chance."

Glad that he's going to finish the story, I trust that he end the series strong. Sadly that means if the continue with this Bat universe, then he most likely won't come back, but never say never.

I hope they won't ever let Goyer direct any sequels after the 3rd. :barf:

I completely agree with you.

Personally, I don't want to see just another movie where Batman fights a new villain. I want to see the resolution of the story that Nolan has been telling, including (presumably) Batman's redemption. While I thought Nolan would view the next movie in this light, it's nice to have it confirmed. I found the following quote to be particularly encouraging:
"Without getting into specifics, the key thing that makes the third film a great possibility for us is that we want to finish our story, and in viewing it as the finishing of a story rather than infinitely blowing up the balloon and expanding the story. We have a great ensemble, that's one of the attractions of doing another film, since we've been having a great time for years."
As I've said in other threads, I think that the Joker could--and probably should--play some role in wrapping things up. After all, he knows the truth about Batman and Harvey.

Great news! He's defininetly coming back and it Batman won't have any ties to Superman.

I didn't exactly read the full article but what did they say about Mr. Freeze and Joker?

Finally some words from the man himself. Great news all around. Very reassuring to hear all the main cast is back, and they want to continue and wrap up the story started in the first two movies.

THis has always been planned as a big story arc. Its very possible we will see the joker again. Its cool to see the story come to a completion with us trully seeing batman become who he is in the end. I dont hope its the end for Nolan and the Batman movies after that though.

Can I say one thing?
Who is Nolan to decide whether or not Batman & Superman can have a crossover or not. They're DC's characters not his. I wish Warner Bros got off their lazy asses and started to make long term plans like Marvel for Justice League and the rest

A compromise can definitely be reached. You don't have to show Batman & Superman together just yet. When you do, it will be a team film with JUST the Superhero's and almost none of the supporting cast from the individual films

Something subtle like Lex Luthor conversing with a certain Lucious Fox on the phone
On the other hand, Green Lantern could have an after credits scene with him meeting Supes in earth's atmosphere. Cool Comic Booky stuff

He didn't say anything about the Joker. The article just generally asked which villain could possibly match up to Heath Ledger's Joker. Regarding Mr Freeze, Nolan said he won't be using him in the sequel.

Yes, it's real.

Good news, and I like what he's said about finishing his story and continuing the epic feel of these films. Should be an interesting next few months. Now all we need is a title and a release date, the casting will come later I'm sure....

Let me respond with this...

Nolan obviously knows what he's doing, that's why Warner Bros. is giving him so much freedom with both franchises. He wants the two characters to be in two separate universes which is understandable given his realistic approach to the Batman character. Next, when will people stop comparing Marvel's decision to have a team assemble movie with DC having separate films that don't necessarily have to tie in together. Obviously Warner Bros. isn't being lazy if they have Green Lantern in production, Batman 3 in the process of being written, and Man of Steel getting its act together.

And please for the love of God, don't let Superman make a cameo in the Green Lantern movie. "Cool Comic Booky stuff" is why critics and award academies don't take comic-book films seriously. The Dark Knight got a lot of attention for not feeling like a comic book film, but instead a drama.

Awards shows take themselves so seriously that they will never take comic book movies seriously.

This has potential to be one of the greatest trilogies of all time.:brucebat:

definitely...I'm praying for the same effect as the LOTR....a full story, with a beginning, a middle and an end !

I think Nolan just wants to be able to finish the story arc he devised with goyer without having to make severe modifications like Superman showing up in the movie. Thats not to say that any future batman story arcs wont have a link to supes

Great news, love hearing J. Nolan doing his best to make the story epic. I did find this part interesting:
His villain choices to date have steered clear of strongly supernatural or super-science characters (no Man-Bat, Mr. Freeze or Poison Ivy, for instance) but he shook his head when asked if that was trajectory he would continue.
Shook head as in no or yes?

That's what I was wondering. Usually when you hear people say "shook" it means side to side, as in "no." When they say yes it's usually "nodded." Those aren't like strict rules or anything though and probably are different in other areas so it's hard to say. The fact that they used the word "but" ("... but he shook his head...") seems to indicate that he gave a negative response. If he had said "yes" the sentence probably would have been "and he shook his head."

I both agree and disagree with you here

If Dark Knight is a crime drama ala Heat then Green Lantern will be a Space Opera like Star Trek 2009. The cameo would be similar to the scene with Old Spock meeting New Spock. No story relevance but still cool. Plus it would be after the credits and I don't think it would hurt the movie

If a film is good then it WILL DEFINITELY be appreciated by critics and the academy. UP was nominated despite having many goofy scenes on the virtue of being a fantastic film

By the way. About a dozen scenes from both Dark Knight & Batman Begins were cool and comic booky and would not be out of place in even the more sillier comics. It's about the execution
