Hardy was badass as usual. His voice is badass as well.
But it is clear that films have been made which are intricate, 'deep' and 'brilliant' which do not have endings like this. So it's transparently obvious that this movie could have still been brilliant with a different ending.
Question-
Dom says that the top was Mal's totem correct? What was his? Did he just take hers on?What did Cobb putting a spinning top inside the safe mean?
A: The safe is a creation of the subconscious that Cobb exploits, in this case Mal. The safes are constructed so that the dreamer believes that it is a safe place for them to store their secrets. The top is Mal's totem, which she uses to determine whether she's in a dream. If it never stops spinning, that tells Mal that she's in a dream. By placing a constantly spinning totem in the safe, Cobb is placing an idea (and a very simple one) inside her subconscious. It's not that she saw the totem spinning, but that it was always spinning in her subconcious mind. This is why she thought she was trapped in the dream world.
I disagree completely. Just because you or I cannot think of it, doesn't mean it's impossible. Again, It's not a huge issue where I'll besiege anyone who thinks differently about it. Film discussion is not about absolutes.I can't think of anything else as to how it would have made it just as brilliant. Everything regarding Cobb leaned towards him going home. That was his goal. He got there. Then the theme of the film is the question of reality. If it opted for reality or dream it wouldn't have lived up to that theme.
BTW, was I the only one crazy enough to think that Inception could make a really cool video game? I was thinking that Quantiac Dream could probably do it justice (the Heavy Rain guys).
Dileep Rao's comments on the ending of the movie

Also something I really liked about the film
The scene with the dream addicts. When they go and meet the chemist and there is the room of men sharing a dream. I just thought this was a nice touch. It showed that while the technology was developed by the army (another nice touch i must say) and employed in corporate espionage, it had moved beyond that. Its still a very secret and underground thing but it definitely opened the world of the movie up a little bit, it also showed the dangers and upped the stakes a little bit.
You see with this theory, like all others no matter hpw the outcome there are always alternatives to them. No matter how much you think it could be your theory, something leads it to the alternative theory of it being in reality of the dream world. I really like these discussions. Like Blade Runner, it's all healthy debate where no flaming wars can happen. Because everyone's else's theory is no more better than the other person's theory.
Cobb's daughter [BLACKOUT]sounded much older on the phone at the start of the film than the girl at the end of the movie. Plus wouldn't they be living somewhere else? At the grandma's house? So I see it as a dream.[/BLACKOUT]
Funny you should mention that, the voice seemed to change as if there was a third child as it started of young and then sounded like a teen, unless my memory is playing tricks on me.

Dileep Rao offered further insight, advising viewers to pay attention to the scene in an unusual way. "You know what, I'll just say this: Use your ears not your eyes."
If Catwoman is in the next Batman movie, I really hope it's Marion Cotillard.
Maybe your dreaming!
I need a totem asap! It's not, I heard the same thing. Which explains this...
I can see that but I dont want to see Catwoman in Batman 3
Who do you want Kane?I wouldn't be surprised ifNolan released two cuts of the end fade out, with the top toppling over sound, and without it? That would be ingenious, and bring back multiple viewers.
Who do you want Kane?
as a villian? not sure yet but I want Riddler, Deadshot, and a humanized version of Killer Croc

I never heard anything at the end. I paid close attention to that, and I dont' think you hear anything. If you listen to the soundtrack of the movie that song is in there, and I think some may mistake some of the soundtrack sound as the top falling. But I don't think it is. But I will see when I see it in IMAX if I can hear by the end of it.
