Chuck (NBC)

Timothy Dalton is a hero. So many actors would have totally bombed trying to go between deadly WMD carrying villain and completely lovestruck lunatic. He's owning the roll. :woot:

I'm not sure how some of the folks that want a more serious 'Chuck' are going to take it though... he's the zaniest villain in the series' run, by far.

I'm loving Dalton. He is amazing in this role. Such a stark contrast to how boring Routh was in the role. Dalton as Volkoff is right up there with Chevy Chase as Ted Rourke. That said, I still think Frost has an agenda of her own. I think we are due for another twist with her.

Also loving Morgan's Die Hard parody and how they haven't copped out and had him self-reference it. Letting the events speak for themselves.

This is my favorite season so far. But really, they get better with each passing year.

Hmm. While this season has been great, I still favor Season 2 overall. I think mine would go...

2-4-1-3. I'm a sucker for pre-Intersect 2.0 Chuck. Him getting out of situations back then was just a blast to watch.

Been rewatching Season 3 in recent weeks and realized that, if not for the final six episodes, it would have been very underwhelming.

I hope she's got some sort of ulterior motive... otherwise she's pretty inept. 30 years as one of Volkoff's most trusted advisers (and who knows how many as his love interest) and she still hasn't taken out 'the Network?' C'mon now.

Chuck is fixed, though how would Orion know he'd need an Intersect fix? A little deus ex machina-ish, but I liked it anyway.

The Ellie arc went on for weeks just to get the Intersect back?

Nothing new?

I'm with you in terms of ranking. Only I found the final six episodes to be the weak part of the season. Mostly due to the tacked on, last minute arc of Shaw planning a secret coup against the US which did not fit with his character or his motives in the least.

Agreed. There's got to be more.

I see what you mean, Season 3 was a bit of a mixed bag, probably because of the uncertainty on whether the show would return.

In fact now thinking about it, I'd probably re-organize my order to 4-2-1-3.

Also, on a sad note... that's the last Chuck of 2010. On hiatus 'til January 17, when the remaining 14 episodes of the season start airing.

Hate that networks are closing up series earlier and earlier each year... we used to at least get a week or two into December before things shut down!

I'd agree, but if you just watch those episodes as a bad guy becoming the Intersect, then they're among the best the show's ever produced. Great Chuck moments, great Chuck/Sarah, the Morgan/Casey team-up... good times. Good outshines the bad, particularly after the disastrous start to season 3.

But yeah, Season 2 was where it's at. I don't know if it's just because it was the first (and only) season with a guaranteed schedule (allowing for maximum creativity), or the fact that its budget was substantially higher. Just fun from start to finish, and bookended by two great 3-4 episode stretches each.

On a side note, any guesses as to when they bring back Jordanna Brewster? Her plot is long since resolved, but she did just kind of go MIA.

That didn't help, nor did the late announcement that they'd get six extra episodes. This year they got another late announcement, but it was for 11 eps - effectively a whole 'nother season (considering that they've twice written 13 episode arcs).

I just know that, a few years from now when the series is long gone, my season 3 DVD won't come off the shelf nearly as often as the others.

Man that does suck, I won't have anything to watch on monday nights for the next 7 to 8 weeks.:(

Dalton is great. One minute you hate him the next you love him. Dude switches from evil to goofy so easily.

I was happy to hear he got a part on the show. Glad that it's turned out to be so awesome.

Yeah, he can be pretty funny when he wants to be & then a great bad guy the next minute.

Timothy Dalton is the best villain this show has had. Although I'm not too crazy about how things are progressing. The show has gotten a bit ridiculous this season - even for Chuck standards.

Dalton's certainly got the best villain role locked up, though Chevy Chase is a very, very close second.

John Larroquette is still my favorite guest star in the show's run, though.

As for the season... it's certainly been really, really goofy (the villains have always been the one part of the show that stays semi-serious, and they've thrown that out the window this season). I can understand why it bothers some (as I've admitted, I still prefer Season 2 to Season 4's direction). But I get why they're trying it - they've decided to drop all serious pretenses after much of Season 3 was panned by fans for being too serious and too angst laden (and IMO, it was). So the writers have gone a different route.

Lets also not forget that most of the writing staff is new to Chuck this year, too, so they're trying to take the show a new direction while still getting familiar with the formula.

I can't complain much, though, since one of the reasons for NBC's extra 11 episode order was reportedly their positive reaction to the new angle.
