Cinematography

Hmm.

I just watched Shutter Island the other day.

Cool.

Damn. ****ing great choice if true.

That is such an amazing choice that I honestly never saw coming. This movies gonna look incredible.

HOLY ****!!!
This is such a goddamn amazing choice, the ****. Matt Reeves isn't ****ing around - Once Upon a Time in Hollywood looks incredible aesthetically. Best looking funnybook movie ever coming up!
Also, shoot this in 70mm!

It's interesting that he did the cinematography for Live By Night. Didn't see the film, but it looked great from the trailers.

I've seen these films from Richardson:

Casino
Kill Bill Vol. 1
The Aviator
Inglourious Basterds
Shutter Island
Hugo
Django Unchained

I think The Aviator and Kill Bill Vol. 1 are the best of the bunch.

This means... we might get a different composer too! Rejoice!
Yeah I don't think that's happening. A different cinematographer was always likely as Reeves has used different ones for his movies, however Giacchino is a given because:
1. He wants to score a Batman film.
2. Reeves really likes him, he's always used him for his movies.
3. Giacchino already teased it.

GiaZZZzzzzino
He's hit and miss. Sometimes his scores are powerful and exciting like his Star Trek work which for me was a huge part of what made those very flawed films exciting but other times they're just sort of... there... Like his recent Far From Home score.

His Pixar stuff is incredible... but a lot of his scores sound too generic. He's like Zimmer, where if he's with the right collaborator (Nolan, Pixar) it's gold, but otherwise it sounds kind of phoned in.

Oh lord, phoned in Zimmer is the worst.

Richardson is a master of back light (and light in general). I love his sense of space and composition.

He's easily one of the best cinematographers ever.i was worried about who the cinematographer was gonna be and now that we know, there couldn't have been a better person for this. I'm so damn hyped!!!

You notice environments in his works. He can emphasize the sets so well.

I'm personally a fan of his 90s works the most, like JFK and Casino. If Reeves and him will try to channel that aesthetic... Oh my goodness.

Thankfully a lot of Giacchino's best works are the scores he's done for Reeves, so I'm not too worried for how he'll do with his Batman score.

Also, as for Robert Richardson... this is an insane get. We're in for the best looking Batman film to date.

one shot that comes to mind is the motorcycle chase from Kill bill Vol. 1. The colors and snow mixed in with the yellow is so damn moody and gorgeous. That means we will have had 2 amazing cinematographers working on a Batman film. Wally Pfister and Robert Richardson!

Always loved that scene!
