Kasdan Penning Clash of the Titans
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
April 16, 2007

Lawrence Kasdan has been hired to write Clash of the Titans for Warner Bros. Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter. Basil Iwanyk is producing via Thunder Road.

A remake of the 1981 cult classic, the story revolves around Zeus' son, Perseus, and his journey to save Princess Andromeda during which he must complete various tasks set out by Zeus, including capturing Pegasus and slaying Medusa. The original marked the final film on which Ray Harryhausen did special effects.

Travis Beacham (Killing on Carnival Row) wrote a draft.

Kasdan wrote the screenplays for Return of the Jedi, The Empire Strikes Back and Raiders of the Lost Ark. He executive produced In the Land of Women, written and directed by son Jon Kasdan and hitting theaters on Friday.

good news!! hope it gets a good director.

A definite classic. Would i want to see a re-make? I've always dreamed of seeing 'The Kraken' and 'Medusa' with today's FX but i have a feeling that they'll **** this up just like 95% of the movies they're remaking today..so i say, leave it alone Hollywood.

i'm actually all for a remake of this. i love the original and it's truly classic, Harryhausen did an exceptional job for his time...but seeing it done with todays fx could be astounding (if handled properly....we'll have to see on that one)

the original movie was horrible. okay, neat effects for its time, but the acting was downright awful.

kasdan is a great writer. i have faith.

okay, you're icon is of Golgo13, one of the worst anime movies ever and you're criticizing the tastes of hollywood? what is wrong with you?

I love the original movie. Medusa was damn scary when I was a kid.

:wow:
Clash of the Titans is one of my all time favorites.
Gosh I hope they dont screw this up, yet if done well and right this could be absolutely fantastic and a terriffic screenwriter is a darn good start.

This is one of the remakes i always hoped they'd do,the concept and story are awesome but the effects are really dated and the acting bad, hope they get a good director:up:

I'm so attached to the original that I don't think I'd ever willingly accept this. I guess it all depends on what kind of talent they get behind it. I remember watching the original over and over when I was a kid. This and an animated story about King Arthur are the first two movies that I can actually remember watching. That means alot to me considering I've grown very fond of film in general.

Worst anime? Are you drunk! 'The Professional' was one of the best imo. And maybe you haven't been to the movies as of late but 9 out of 10 remakes these days, that Hollywood spews out, are pure garbage.

I love Clash of the Titans. Yeah, the effects suck by todays standards, but i have fond childhood memories of all the characters in that movie, no matter how cheesy they look today. I love the old 'Omen' movie but the remake brought absolutely nothing new or fresh to the table, so why re-make it at all? I don't hear ppl talking about the new 'Omen' movie one way or the other. It's been forgot about.

Hollywood needs to learn when and when not to remake classic movies. I doubt anyone in Hollywood will try re-making films like 'Gone with the Wind' because the public will crucify them. It should be the same with ALL classics. Like i stated before, i'd love to see The Kraken done with todays effects but other than that, i for one, hope they don't go through with it. Just my opinion.

I doubt we'll be seeing a topless Medusa this time around. Unless they make it rated R. Which, if they want to sell toys, they won't.

I must've said this a thousand times in this forum for this to be made.
I am glad WB is getting around to making it. This is truly a film that can benefit from being made today.

Masters of the Universe is next........

I agree with golgo13: The Hitman
Certain movies are classics for a reason. King Kong has been done three times but the original is still far and away the best. The only thing superman returns did for me was make me watch Superman, the movie again to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Hey! Hollywood; LEAVE THE CLASSICS ALONE. Show some filming imagination and come out with some "new" classics. I'm willing to lay down money on the unknown easier than on some rehash of an old favorite.

i just saw the original by Harryhausen and i gotta say that it was a hard watch. the_lost, i can respect that it's a classic in it's own right the same way that the original King Kong is a classic but i don't think anyone here is gonna argue that these films are hard to watch by today's standards. i'm sure everything about the film was great for it's time but it just doesn't stand up to the movie making standards of today.

that being said...Jackson's remake to King Kong hasn't overshadowed the original. the original is still considered classic but Jackson's Kong is basically the version that the people of today can enjoy. it's hard to sit down and watch stop motion puppets interacting with live action footage.

Let's all agree NOT to see it, hoping Hollywood will take a hint.

I too get tired of all the remakes, but we all keep going seeing these movies anyways. Will they ever make a remake of lets say gone with the wind/wizard of oz..Probably not,but lets never say never.. I dont think hollywood treats sci/fi action classics the same as they would a drama.
I enjoyed CotT,and I would probably go see the remake. The other problem with hollywood is everything almost comes out in 2's. Premonition- Next, deep impact-armegeddon,ID4-crap forgot, alien movie with charlie scheen..etc....

According IESB, Sam Raimi is being asked to direct the Clash of the Titans remake. Sam seems to be being offered a new project every week, from Spidey 4 to The Hobbit, so take this with a giant grain of salt(especially considering it comes from IESB). Yet, if this has any truth to it, I can actually say I'm excited to see this remake. Clash of the Titans is one of my childhood favorites, so the idea of a remake did not go over well with me, but if there is a director who could pull it off, its Sam Raimi. From his past works, you can tell the guy worships Harryhausen.

Sam Raimi should do a SOMETHING 4, but it sure as hell isn't Spider-Man.

Oh, and "No" to this, too.
