I don’t know how to start this, for a lot of people including myself the Clash of the Titans remake was a disappointing movie that showed typical Hollywood dumbness with its plot, pacing and ending to the movie, while obviously having a huge budget to give that epic Greek mythology feeling that has enthralled the audience since Jason & the Argonauts. This movie still has the dumb plot, the weird pacing, the epic feeling, but quite sadly I do feel the awfulness of the 3rd act and the ending to this movie may make the 1st movie a more enjoyable experience, now the action, the designs and whole general plot outline is much more better here, but the last 20 minutes seemed so rushed, not to mention they don’t even care about the plot they themselves tell, such as God’s losing their powers because humans aren’t worshipping them anymore, but when you see the final battles, this is completely irrelevant.
Speaking of the Gods, they don’t even have any Gods in this movie outside Zeus, Poseidon, Hephaestus, Hades and Ares, that’s it! Poseidon decides to explain the gods have somehow vanished, so yeah they just left the movie behind the scenes. Also no one of the supporting characters (outside of 1 character, new actress) return from the 1st movie. Perseus’ quest to save the world is joined by Aregor, the son of Poseidon! (Played Toby Kebbell) He is the comedic scavenger mischief & the other hero to join Perseus is Andromeda, the young princess from the 1st movie who is now the warrior Queen of Argon. (Played by Rosamund Pike) I liked her character a lot as well, she was pretty much Xena the Warrior Princess, but sadly even she suffers from Hollywood clichés as she and Perseus must share feelings towards each other at the very end of the movie! Which reminds me, at the end of the 1st movie the love interest dies, but Zeus decides to resurrect her for Perseus (not his family included, which is what motivated Perseus to begin with in the 1st movie) now the 2nd movie literally starts with us learning it has been about 10-15 years since the 1st movie, the 1st love interest has died again, but Zeus decided to let this one slip by, despite seemingly having grown such huge fondness to Perseus,
My biggest disappointment from the movie comes from the fact I feel lied towards to, the trailers and the title imply Titans, but there truly is no other Titan in this movie besides Kronos. The marketing made me feel that the Minotaur, Cyclops, Chimaera & Makhai we’re Titan level monsters, but nope, they’re simply different variety of monsters, which is disappointing since I was assuming this was about Gods & Demi Gods against the Titans.
Now what makes this movie such a big pile of crap? Why is the darker, edgier but far more action themed and better plot outlined movie ultimately more crap than the 1st? Well here are the spoilers on the 3rd act: Practically everything is tied down in such a rushed way, heroes die left and right, plot points are completely irrelevant and it all boils down how cliché everything was, it felt like this was the 1st draft of a script that didn’t receive any ironing whatsoever. It’s just such a shame because the general idea with the movie was really cool, but so was the original envision with Clash of the Titans having Zeus as the main villain, and to be honest with how crap this movie was, it sort of made me appreciate Immortals a bit more, a movie I absolutely despised seeing in the theater.
