Actually Cameron has comeout and spoke against movies that are filmed in 2D and converted to 3D

I really don't get all the hate for 3D...

Most of the criticism is based on theaters showing only the crappy but more expensive 3D movies at the expense of 2D versions. Nobody wants to be forced to shell out more money for a mediocre product.

I don't want or need 3D to enjoy a movie.

Avatar as great as it was in 3D I would've enjoyed just as much in 2D.

I don't like the idea of 3D becoming the new standard...which is where it seems to be heading.

Has he also comeout and spoke againts taking stereotypical plots instead of trying to be original aswell? :awesome:

You guys should have expected a crap movie as far as Avatar... it was about the experience and nothing more. You got these 3-D tickets going for 13-14 dollars, and some shots still look like cut outs from the 80's. And why wouldn't theatres switch to 3-D exclusively for these big budget films that are converted when they can make an extra 3-4 bucks and increase their commission?

Actually Cameron has comeout and spoke against movies that are filmed in 2D and converted to 3D

He has spoken out against the conversion but not really just because of the conversion itself. In fact, he plans on re-releasing Titanic in 3D, so how could he be totally against the process?

March 24, 2010 - Having spoken out against the recent trend of 3D conversions of 2D films, what does James Cameron have to say about converting his own film, Titanic, into 3D for re-release in theaters? In an interview at an event to promote the April 22 release of Avatar on DVD and Blu-ray, Cameron explained the distinction between taking the initiative as a filmmaker and having the studio dictate the conversion.

"We're converting Titanic, but we're doing it right," Cameron said. "What I'm not a fan of is a rushed or slapdash conversion that's not done right. And, I'm certainly not a fan of conversion when you could shoot the movie in 3D."

The problem, he said, is when the decision is made by the studio and not by the directors themselves.

"Right now, they're being made by studios because all the filmmakers hung back and said, 'Well, let's go see if Cameron hangs himself. Then we can forget about this 3D thing, and roll over and go back to sleep.' That didn't happen, so now they've gotta go, 'Oh, (expletive), maybe I have to think about doing a movie in 3D,' as opposed to what should have happened. They should have been pounding on the gates of the studios, saying, 'We want to make movies in 3D. It looks cool. It's a new art form. Let's go. Give us the money.' That didn't happen, so now they're paying the price, which is the studio telling them to make their movies in 3D and they're caught with their pants down."

Cameron went on to further excoriate his fellow filmmakers: "They're not standing up. It's like, 'Come on! Show some spine, guys.' The studios have the power. They're going, 'You're doing your movie in 3D. Guess what? You don't have a choice. You don't want to do it? That's fine. We'll get someone else.' That's not how it was supposed to be. But, if the filmmakers take control of this thing, like they should, and like they control any other aesthetic aspect of their movie, then you'll have the quality and people will spend the money."

Cameron also assured fans that he will personally oversee the Titanic conversion in parallel with his next project (which he wouldn't reveal). The target release date is currently Spring 2012, to coincide with the 100-year anniversary of the sailing of the Titanic, "a nice marketing hook."

Avatar was definitely more enjoyable in 3D. I saw the 2D version and it bored me because I had seen the same plot in other movies. At least the 3D kept me entertained for a little while.

i blame the studio system than Cameron, though he maybe the catalyst for the 3D movement.

Cameron may be the catalyst, but he doesn't just want more 3D films, but 3D films that do it right. Cameron is not leading a revolution to make every film in 3D format.

Man trying to find Midnight tickets for this is tough. In Missouri that is.

Maybe it's not so much for 3D...but for studios that make fake 3D films just to cash in on true 3D films like Avatar.

just my guess though

anyway, I really like Cameron. He really seems to have a passion for films and doesn't really care for how Hollywood runs things with this 3D thing.

To each his own...I 2d, 3d--I still enjoyed the movie just the same.

The day 3D takes over permanently is the day I stop going to the theater.

the whole 3D is as important as CGI argument just boggles my mind sometimes.

seriously....

next they're gonna be doing 4D where you can smell the film... and then people are gonna say its as important as 3D:oldrazz:

I've never seen a theater where they only have a feature in 3D. Apparently the country is filled with them, because I keep hearing about how people are being strong-armed into paying for it.

its happened once with me... but only on opening night...

they're raising 2d prices cause 3d prices rose... thanks to people being ok with the extra $1 you had to pay for 3d.

greedy bastards... isnt that a monopoly or something? lol

I just checked my theater and now I see they are adding 2d showings. I guess enough complained about not wanting to see it in 3d.

Honestly, if there doesn't prove to be a market for them, they will disappear. Blame the consumers. The way I see it, I can count on one hand the number of movies that come out in a year where I might end up paying extra for, and I'm not going to go off the deep end for 20 bucks.

Depends on the theater. The local regal has enough screens for both. The local small chain, it's either, 3d Alice or no Alice.
