I disagree. Obviously the more famous and the bigger celebrity you are, the harder is it for people to see the character than the actor. This has nothing to do with acting.
Well, as i was saying in my last post, the better the acting, the more chance there is of you forgetting who they are, also, the better quality of the film in general, how immersive the story is for example, so we forget the real world.
But we as the audience also have to bring something to the experience, just as we have to bring a suspension of disbelief to sfx, whose various processes we are very aware of, we have to bring an ability to disregard all the media we come into contact with, and the better the actor is, the easier that process is for us.
and what Doctor jones typed up, is what I believe he was doing in regards to that mental process, he sees De Cap, but also feels the performance coming from the man.
and I take back what i was saying in my last post, Leo De Cap would not have done well in American Psycho, that would have been a serious case of mis-casting. Lacking humour in his utility belt of skills, he would not have been right for the part at all, as that is a major factor in most aspects of the performance, it being a black, satirical comedy.
