Cloud Atlas

I liked the 'After the fall' story too

So much going on in this film...will stir a lot of talk for years

I agree, especially Doona Bae. I was really pulling for them, more so than any of the others

I think because those two were the most likeable characters. The other protagonists, they had their reasons, but I didn't really care that much about them.

I thought it was awesome, loved The Fountain, while my Dad didn't like it (and didn't like The Fountain). Mentioning that because that really reminds me of the polarizing effect this is having and I think it comes more from the way the story is told rather than the length. The stories where Broadbent was at the center were my favorites.

Did not like The Fountain....LOVED LOVED LOVED Cloud Atlas.

One of the most ambitious ever...Feel like this will live with audiences for a while, leave a long impact and years later people will love it

Bae was my favorite, but that arc came in a close second.

Edit: The Fountain and Cloud Atlas are hands down the most ambitious films I've ever seen, and I loved them both.

my favorite scenes is one where everyone clapped in the theater

The old scottish man who says "i know, i know" voices out loud about the people from the old people's home

And more so the scene where Sonmi tells the interrogator something about how "someone already believes what she said"

Saw it again tonight. It was even better the second time.

Although expected , the BO still is disappointing.
9.5 million not to mention the audience score doesn't bode well for legs :csad:

Come on, we all knew that would happen. Just be happy this film even got made.

I'm bummed because no matter how you look at it , this will affect the Wachowski's career.
They are my favorite directors and i would like to see them succeed. Hopefully Jupiter Rising puts them back on the map but it would've been nice to see Cloud Atlas at least make it's money back.

Remember, Warner's only paid for distribution, they didn't finance it. It's not even opening in over 2,000 screens. So they're not on the WB **** list.

Either way, future generations of film makers will be inspired more by the ambitious films than by the generic ones.

WB loss is minimal but after Speed Racer they are slowly losing the support they once had.
It has been difficult for them to get the financing for this flick.
Hell Nolan or James Cameron could basically go to any studio right now and basically "this is the movie i want to make "and the studio would basically write a blank check.

Not these guys.

As for your last comment , i do understand that. It's just a shame that the general audience won't go for this flick.

Loved the flick. Hopefully some Oscar recognition is in order. Blu-ray buy? Quite possibly.

It will become one of those flicks that's remembered, I'm pretty sure they'll be happy with that. A lot of classics were bombs back in the day, as cliche as that is.

I didn't hit me as hard emotionally as I was expecting it too. I liked the characters and cared about their plights quite a bit, but it didn't quite grab the way reviews have made me think it would. Not to say I was cold to it, just not bawling like a baby.

That said, since I've slept on it, I can already feel it gnawing on me. What a dense, rich movie. So much to chew on, such sincerity. I very much want to see it again. It's so densely packed with echoes, ripples, call and responses. The theme I think can be stated simply, but the way it's told is anything but. Very daring filmmaking.

It's like the anti-Prometheus.

Wow big time flop

Yes and no. You're right - it probably wobt get its money back (yet). But...It's rated R, it's very non-conventional, 3 hours long and funded by German investors (not WB). While it underperformed, I'm happy that exists.

My video review!

I too, wasn't very emotionally impacted by the end of this. But I was engaged throughout the entire story and the more I think of this movie, the more I smile and feel good about it.

Could definitely be one of those movies that rises in popularity and fame years/decades down the road. I need to see this again...definitely!

The theatre here is only showing it at 2 and 7 which are hard times for me to go. But I guess I will force myself up sometime this week to go see it.

I don't see this film becoming anything special. It'll just fall into mediocrity and be forgotten soon

To be fair only 1/6 of BIG name directors, actors, and writers have this kind of pull.
