Cloverfield Director To Remake Let The Right One In

This film is not going to have an iota of the subtlety or nuance of the original.

And the original version doesn't even have the proper subtitles on home video release.

1. You don't know anything about this film yet. I think it has potential. And the only way of knowing that it won't have "an iota of subtlety or nuance" of the original is for you to see it. Reeves seems pretty dedicated about it, so we'll see. (Sorry if it seems a bit snappy of me, but this is a Hammer film. Hammer made their name by remaking movies. Did i mention it's a Hammer film? I love Hammer films.)

2. The DVD DOES have the proper subtitles on it. I had to scour the DVD sections of several entertainment stores in a mall to finally find it, but it's there. The key to knowing if you have the right copy is this:

On the back of the DVD case, underneath the rating box, where it lists the run time and language tracks, it should read this: SUBTITLES: ENGLISH(THEATRICAL), SPANISH.

That's the corrected subtitles version. If it just says "ENGLISH", it's the faulty subtitles one.

As of a few months ago there were reports that Magnolia was determined not to release the dvd with the proper subtitles until they basically burned through all of the copies of the ****** version. Were there more copies of the proper version on the shelf than the ****** version?

When they changed the title to "Let Me In " that was my first clue this won't be as good . I'm sure it will be ok and the casting seems good but
I'll own the original and rent the new one just to see what they did.

Also, you do realize that the title change is representative of that obliviousness and that it changes the intent of the film completely, don't you?

Let the Right One In Remake Retitled Again?

The Let the Right One In remake is building steam this week, generating casting rumors (Phillip Seymour Hoffman was a name bandied about yesterday).

Today, Production Weekly reports the Matt Reeves-directed redo is changing its name from Let Me In to Fish Head. Riiight, because that works so well.

This simply could be a shooting moniker, one that the production is taking on during principal photography. While Reeves was lensing Cloverfield, the film took a number of names to throw people off. But Let Me In isn't as secretive a production as Cloverfield.

Production Weekly adds that Reeves begins rolling cameras the first week of November in New Mexico.

Hahaha, just like the article states, that is most likely the code name while filming.

Although I haven't read the book, I have seen the original film and there is nothing in it that would make sense to call it "Fish Head".

Has he commented on anything recently? All I've read is he's keeping the setting and intends to say faithful to the book. Coupled with a very good cast, I'm still crossing my fingers.

The title is significant in the summation of the movie's concepts. But it is by no means essential to the movie itself. No title is, imo.

Hmmm Legion and amazingfantasy - I think you'd really need to rewatch the film to really understand the subtlety, and the deliberate pacing that it had.

I think it's a masterpiece. Worth the hype since I'd heard about it literally a week before I saw it. Beautifully made, shot, told, acted.

Rewatching the film isn't going to do anything except wish Eli was real and attacked me.

While I don't fully agree with what Sarge2.0 said to you, I will say the young actors in the film did show appropriate emotion for the most part. Oskar was a shy and timid, a kid who gets pushed around and bullied due to being seemingly weaker, I don't think he should have played the part as an energetic and loud child.

As for Eli, she loses her original helper and meets this young boy who essentially becomes her friend and possible helper for the future. I always figured that while trying to be a bit mysterious due to what she is, she was also having temptations of feeding on Oskar originally. Throw in the fact that they live in an area that is always snowing and cold as well as seemingly small, I got the feeling that the film's atmosphere was trying to mimic the way the two main characters feelings and emotions were like, cold and distant.

I pre-ordered the ****** version online months before it came out so I was as shocked as anyone when I put the disc in and saw the ****** subtitles. I probably won't order it online again and try my luck at Best Buy.

Although for those of you with Netflix, the version that Netflix streams directly to your computer has the theatrical subtitles. I'm not so sure if the disc they send will have them, but if you watch it instantly on your computer you'll get the proper version.

That's why I'm apprehensive about the remake. Matt Reeves, in spite of his supposed intentions to remain more faithful to the book, seems pretty dead set on making the character [blackout]concretely female. Part of the nuance of the original was in the ambiguity of the characters gender, since "Eli" is a gender neutral name, whereas "Abby" is decidedly female, since it is short for Abigail.[/blackout] And he also seems pretty dead set on making it purely a love story, which is a fairly superficial understanding of the original film. What made it so great is that it [blackout]may not be just a love story, and Eli could just be seducing Oskar to be her next helper.[/blackout] And really it wasn't so much about love, it was more about despair.

Thanks for the info. When I get home from work today I need to check and see what version I have. I think I have the one with the **** subtitles since I had pre-ordered it online.

Wait, Eli is male? I remember seeing the scars and feeling totally perplexed, but I would never have guessed castration. I thought the actress looked 100% female.
