Cloverfield Director To Remake Let The Right One In

If they would have the scene of Eli, now Abby changing clothe with the door opening and see that she is actually a eunich, people would still be pissed and alot would not even get it and think its well, you know how people generally overreact to things in this country, just looking at Kick-Ass. And people made a big deal about a 13 year old killing people. So even if they did keep that one scene in, they think its one thing, when really its something else.

Actually, for anyone who doesn't know, I've heard (though I haven't seen the source) that they've gone on record saying that they've [blackout]dropped the whole Eli-is-really-a-boy subplot. Abby's just a girl in this one. Well, just a vampire girl. You know what I mean. So that scene definitely won't be there in any form.[/blackout]
Not too big of a deal. Most people that saw the original didn't even catch onto this particular plot point. So as long as they avoid any love connection between the two, I'll be happy.

Yeah, I agree. In fact, that was one of the things I didn't like about the original - it cut the backstory on that subplot from the book so much so that the whole thing just seemed kind of random/superfluous in film to me. So yeah, I won't miss it from this version.

I'm just waiting for everyone to go OMG they ruined it! Hollywood sucks. Or atleast Message board geeks on other sites will be.
And some going they are trying to make it seem too much like Twilight.

You know their usual shtick.

What, the love story between the two? I actually really enjoyed that

I'm sure alot would say that's not the point and its not suppose to be a love story. You know how people are all the time, talking out their asses on the internet all the time.

There are so many bias people already out there not even giving this a chance, just based on that it's a remake. Just like every other movie that is. but oh, well, that's the internet right?

No, there's no way they'll drop the love/friendship that happens in the movie. And no way that they should - that's the heart of the story. I think what some folks are worried about is that they'll take it further into more "romantic" territory to appeal to the Twilight crowd or something.

It IS a love story...just a very different and unique one, imo.

I don't think they will. Revees, as I understand, fought to keep the main characters pre-pubescent, as opposed to the studio originally wanting them to be full-blown teenagers. I don't think he'd have gone to that trouble if he planned on playing up a romance between the characters.

I completely agree and I'll be all the more happy if these two pre-teens blow Stweart, Pattinson and, Launtner(?) out of the water. I really hope everyone watches Let Me In and realizes that Twilight is just a terrible version of it. lmao.

I've read this script. It's not scene by scene. BUT very similare to the original.

Yeah, I'd like to echo that question. The script is the biggest question mark here for me, as Reeves is listed as the sole writer, and I'm completely unfamiliar with his work as a writer. So yes, very curious about that one.

Well.............it's almost the same as the original movie, except scenes happen in a different order. Some things are EXACTLY the same. Even a lot of the dialogue in the tender moments between the 2 kids, if you will. The movie starts with ambulences at the scene of a crime....the hospital.....a man has jumped to his death through the window. We are then taken back to the beginning of what lead to this crime scene. There is also a detective who we follow in the story, he replaces the man who was in the original film that went after Eli for biting his girlfriend. Things may and probably did change, as is always the case with movies. How much so remains to be seen. I think anything "new" this film has to offer in terms of retelling the story and reimagining the film is all in the technical aspect of the film ; the effects and cinematography.

I kind of like that, kickass. But I'd rather the two chillin' be the main POV of the story.

That's what made the movie great in my eyes. It wasn't horribly sappy like the Twilight movies and it wasn't your typical cliche vampire film.

I think the best scene in the film is when
she lifts him up out of the pool and they're staring at each other. The camera focuses on her eyes and you can slightly tell she's smiling at him by the lifting of her face muscles since you can just barely see her nose and mouth. That closeup and them smiling at each other in a really good friend/companionship kind of way was great.

The only worry I really have about the remake is if the two young actors can give good performances on the level of the two kids in the original.

Thanks for the info, kickass. Not sure I like the sound of that so far, but it could be worse. Much worse. I remain in a hopeful wait-and-see mode.

this is chole and the kid from the road i think the performances will be fine

I take it that's the girls name. Chloe? I figure you just typed a bit too fast and mispelled. I did a double take when I read it. :hehe:

I've only seen her in Kick Ass and she seemed to do well.

I brought up the comparison with the kids from both films not because i'm worried that the new actors won't be good but just comparing them in general. I'm very fond of the girl who played Eli in the original. There was something about her and her performance that i think is going to be hard to capture in the remake. I'll keep an open mind though.

May I also add the mother appears to be a drunk and the boy's father is completely absent from the script.

Also...

This isn't from the script, but I've seen a few pictures of Chloe getting make-up done...I mean like an actual full-fledged MASK being applied to her. I think they'll show her look far more menacing than we've ever seen Eli in the original.

The various omissions - in both the Swedish film and Hammer remake - are best compensated by just buying the book itself. When I reached the part about Eli's past I was floored. It is too much to expect they'd keep that in the movie, but that's why fans purchase the book.

I was wondering if anyone has the original on Blu-Ray and if the film has the correct theatrical subtitles?

I found some regular DVD's with the fixed subtitles but all the Blu-Ray copies I find don't say "English Theatrical" on the back. I was wondering if anyone knew if the Blu-Rays just doesn't say that or should I keep looking for one that says "theatrical" on the back?

Netflix has it on their instant queue with the proper subtitles.

Yeah but I wanted to buy it. Hmm...i'll check out some Blu-Ray reviews and see if anyone mentions it. Thanks for the heads up Aesop!

I agree about the girl who played Eli (though I wasn't particularly impressed with the boy who played Oskar), but I really hope Chloe doesn't try to imitate her performance - that would be a BIG mistake, imo. That said, she didn't seem to be trying to do that in her audition tape, so I'm fairly optimistic on that front.
