Cloverfield Director To Remake Let The Right One In

i just hope it is'nt a replica that was the main reason i have yet to go watch quarantine

I have a feeling they'll change some stuff around, to sort of "americanize it". The original's pacing was very slow(a number of people I know didn't like it because it was "too boring" :cmad:) so they might try to alter things a bit.

I remember reading something saying there's more scenes with her first protector.

When I first saw the trailer for this,I really dug it,but when I found out that it was a remake of the vampire movie Let The Right One In,I lost any interest that I had in checking it out. I'm not really a fan of Vampire movies,or Vampires for that matter.

you didn't pick up on that it was a vampire movie from the trailer?

The two child actors are great, and Michael Giacchino's score sounds good (but when isn't it?). It makes me think this is more than just a rushed, "Americanized" cash-in on the success of the Swedish film.

Yep, so far I've liked all the clips that have been released, and the buzz from those who've actually seen it seems to pretty much be all positive, so I daresay I'm getting downright optimistic toward this one.

ETA: ....and EW.com has yet another clip: http://popwatch.ew.com/2010/09/09/let-me-in-exclusive-clip/

My favorite aspect of these clips is the quiet, somber tone. It really quells my #1 concern that they amped it up or "MTV-ified" it.

aside from the IMDb board..but that place is a lost cause. They don't feel the film has a right to even exist, not much you can do when people hate a movie because they feel it's the "right" thing to do. I have only looked at a few of the clips, so far so good.

what kind of movie did you think it was?

Yeah, I think that's what they were going for, haha.

I try to stay away from IMDB on these kinds of things, but looking at that board, it doesn't appear that any of those haters have actually seen the movie. So that's good.

My library has Let The Right One In. I was just gonna wait and see Let Me In first... but I couldn't resist and put it on hold.

A few mini-reviews from Toronto, and what I'm assuming was the TIFF preview/press screening (since it doesn't actually show at the festival until Monday).

From City News:
...I was skeptical about this American adaptation of John Ajvide Lindqvist’s novel, Let the Right One In (Låt den rätte komma in), mainly because it was already turned into an excellent movie back in 2008. To my surprise, they kept what was good in the original and replaced what was lacking in it with more solid scenes, in turn making it a better film experience. **** out of 5 stars.

Now Magazine:
Given that Tomas Alfredson's 2008 chiller Let The Right One In was so distinctly Swedish, it's amazing how well the material withstands the transfer to a New Mexico setting. The story is exactly the same, with a bullied teen (The Road's Smit-McPhee) and an enigmatic neighbour (Kick-Ass's Moretz) bonding as a series of murders sweep their apartment complex. There's blood and screaming aplenty, but the real horror lies in the story's long-term implications, as embodied by Richard Jenkins as Moretz's guardian. Writer/director Reeves trades Cloverfield's shaky camcorder aesthetic for an austere widescreen elegance that honours Alfredson's original from the very first frames.
Their rating was also 4/5.

And now for a negative from the Torontoist:
...In adding the detective character, and developing the relationship between Abby and her browbeaten, blood-collecting steward (Richard Jenkins), Let Me In fleetingly differentiates itself from its Swedish antecedent. But the rest of film feels like Reeves tracing over the lines drawn by Alfredson. He offers us a few virtuoso compositions (though nothing compared to the gory subaquatic dénouement of Alfredson's film), but otherwise Reeves' movie is of interest to only that subset of movie-goers who want to see a horror movie about a juvenile predator, but can't be bothered with reading subtitles.
They gave it 2.5/5 stars.

Hopefully the positive reviews are correct. I want the new HAMMER to do well and make classy horror films.

This looks interesting. I haven't seen the original film yet, but I started reading the book yesterday so I'll probably watch it once I finish it.

they both loved and saw the original as well point makes no sense

is it sacrilegious to think it could be better from someone else's perspective

original is'nt perfect by any means

I just watched the original film last night and I loved it. It was so beautiful, had a lot of undertones, and the plot and resolution of the story is very amazing...almost a twist as it explains the beginning of the story and keeps it open ended enough to start over in the same direction. Very good movie.

I hope this remake is just as good and all signs are pointing to that with fantastic actors in the lead roles so I can't wait to see this.

chaseter wasnt it just great that everything was subtle? that they didnt hit you over the head with everything?

it was such a calm movie and it fits with story IMO.

Now this film looks interesting. Has anybody seen the original ?

there was some talk about when Eli looked like an old women. so i was now searchign for 1 hour and i found it.
